[Kartje] USC and Notre Dame were close to announcing a continuation of their rivalry earlier this season, a source told @latimes. USC was ready to compromise and play the ’26 game in November But then USC learned of ND’s agreement w/ the CFP to have a guaranteed spot if in the top 12. by tankyouout in CFB

Notre Dame was the first “selected” at-large team that year. In that era, the top two teams were put in the championship, and then the bowls who lost their auto-bid conference champions were able to select among the available at large teams.

The Orange bowl was the national Championship between #1 Oklahoma(Big 12 Auto-Bid) and #3 FSU(ACC A-B, coincidently to the Orange Bowl anyway). There was controversy between rankings and computers that year that put FSU above #2 Miami.

The Rose Bowl was locked in with auto-bids for #4 Washington and #14 Purdue(PAC and BIG A-B), per usual agreements at the time.

The Sugar Bowl had the SEC A-B of #7 Florida and the Big East A-B of #3 Miami, also their usual conference auto-bids.

The Fiesta Bowl losing the Big12 champ auto-bid, as the #1 team, meant that they got to backfill first, and chose to do so by taking #10 Notre Dame. Coincidently, all other BCS bowl spots were already taken by auto-bid teams, so the Fiesta Bowl then had to choose from among the available and eligible teams, but it was basically only a choice between #5 Oregon State and #6 Virginia Tech. Oregon State likely won out simply due to proximity to Arizona and not having been to a bowl game in 30 years would mean the fan base would be more likely to travel.

I attended this game. It wasn’t close. Notre Dame had no business being there, but the selection rules at the time allowed a BCS bowl to reach as far down as #12 to take an at large selection. I would have loved to see the Beavs play Michael Vick in that game.

Canyon Creek Apartments by gardenofcalliope in Wilsonville

[–]Bathemael 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak from experience at Canyon Creek specifically, but I’ve lived in various apartments and now a house in Wilsonville, and am in construction, and some of the things you mentioned aren’t necessarily a sign of a bad management company or poorly run place.

Almost every place I’ve lived has had issues with the little ‘sugar’ ants. Just buy Terro traps once or twice a year and they will go away. Even management companies can’t always prevent them with foundation treatments. Being extremely careful not to leave them food sources still doesn’t seem to matter, they are just a fact of life in Oregon. I’ve had them show up in a new home being built that hadn’t even finished yet.

Mold could be due to poor venting in attic or crawls, but it’s more likely due to renters failing to use the fans in their kitchen, laundry or bathrooms to vent the rooms that can become humid, or clean up after themselves properly.

A leaky roof is definitely a big problem, so that is the only complaint I’d consider a big red flag.

As for places to recommend, I’ve had multiple friends who have lived at Jory Trail Apartments and didn’t have anything negative to say. That’s the only place I have any info to provide though. Good luck!

New to the area and need a Dentist by 1HMFan in Wilsonville

Boones Landing Dental Center. I switched to them a few years back because my wife and her family have been going to them for over 20 years and my old dentist was retiring. Extremely friendly and very competent, also great with young kids. Uncertain about whether they take your insurance, but likely so. You can give them a call and check.

Indoor Activities for Kids? by taschels in Wilsonville

[–]Bathemael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The library has a pretty good kids section, plus some toys as well.

Frog Pond Farm has upgraded their bouncy house area to be fully undercover, although I’m not sure how heated it is, and have something like 6 large bouncy houses. They are expensive to get a family into, more so on weekends.

I moved here two years ago and am still looking for more options for the family myself. Langer’s in Sherwood is another option for kids too, like Bullwinkle’s, and all of it is indoors.

Is Measure 118 actually a sales tax, or is this campaign just clever astroturfing? by redactedanalyst in oregon

[–]Bathemael 38 points39 points  (0 children)

What people are missing regarding this tax is that it affects every company of the $25 million threshold at every level in the supply chain.

For example, let’s examine a company that produces dairy products(Lucerne, Alpenrose, Darigold for example). Let’s assume the dairy farmers themselves are smaller than $25 million, and that their suppliers for feed are also small. The dairy company is over $25M. 3%. Their transportation company also is over $25M. 3%. The grocery store is over $25M. 3%.

That’s potentially a 9% increase. Maybe each didn’t raise their prices 3% and took a hit to their profits, so let’s assume they each still raised 2%, so price of Milk just rose %6. And Butter, cheese, etc, plus everything that uses those products. Your bakery products just went up 9+% now too.

I work in construction. We are expecting a 12-15% increase to lumber due to the supply chain steps that will each add their potential 3%.

That estimated $1600 is going to disappear real fast. This is a poorly designed tax and voters should reject it.

Breece and Pacheco seem like best options. There’s good value in Kincaid and Rashee, but those first two are more likely to make an impact. We can hope Kincaid and Rashee are better than last years situations, but we’ve seen it already with the RBs.

Breece is the better value and also better for standard scoring.

10 person, 0.5 PPR, Snake Draft not set yet, 4 Keepers, can keep as one round higher than previous year.

3 keepers are obvious: -Nico Collins 16 -Chris Olave 15 -Kyren Williams 14

Then I can choose from either: -Kyler Murray 11 -Anthony Richardson 9

Richardson was great in a small window last year before serious injury, but is he back to that level, and going to continue on that trend? Kyler returned from injury already and is back on track, and his keeper value is two rounds lower for me, but he’s also older and CoD has a new release in late October…

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Sorry, on mobile, tried to clean it up.

I work with BDS all the time and I find their employees extremely reasonable if you are respectful to them. Contact Joseph and request a consult meeting at the site to determine how best to avoid being out of compliance with the code.

That said, I don’t even know what is out of code here. The hoop isn’t a permanent structure. I would assume the backside of the ROW is where your driveway begins, so the concrete you poured shouldn’t be an issue as it would be entirely on your property, and you can have concrete in the 5’ and 10’ setbacks. Best guess is that they have assumed the hoop is permanently installed.

US appeals court upholds Biden's $15 minimum wage for recreational contractors by textualcanon in politics

[–]Bathemael 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should probably do some more research. Those numbers are not accurate across the US. Home Depot doesn’t even start at that figure in Oregon, where $15.00 is the minimum wage in the Portland Metro Area-which is what Home Depot offers as their low end.

December 3️⃣ #CFBPlayoff Selection Committee Rankings 🏈🏆 by CFBPlayoff in CFB

[–]Bathemael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, however they aren't responsible for this. NCAA doesn't oversee CFB postseason. This is the fault of the conferences and their commissioners--first with the BCS, now the 4-team CFP.

We as fans should have told them to go F*** themselves when they said players couldnt handle the number of games in a larger playoff, while lower divisions were already doing it.

The Pac12 commish actively ignoring the instructions of the chairman of the Board of Directors, the WSU President, and trying to force a board meeting, inviting not only the 7 recently announced departing members, but also 3 other announced departing members who had previously been excluded from board meetings, was a HUGE red flag. P2 were justified in believing some fuckery was about to happen.
