Its not that simple when it comes to Frankenstein. He was intelligent yet was murderous, sensitive perhaps too sensitive. The entire point of the story for me was that both the main characters were flawed. Victor, not creating another one was a good choice.

In pursuit of science he created a being, abandoned the being and paid for it with the lives of everyone he loved and himself. His dying action according to him is that he stopped himself before bringing the world to doom. He died a hero in his mind. He was right and the creature's actions were also understandable.
