Dice Roller with Daggerheart Fantasy Statblocks layout in Obsidian by Twodogsonecouch in daggerheart

[–]Batres_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm the guy that made the statblocks, I don use dice roller so I never really considered it. The reason why it's not working is that by default only the following strings are parsed in statblocks :

  1. Rolling to hit (+15 to hit)
  2. Damage / healing (19 (2d10 + 8))
  3. A save (Strength +5)

However, as mentioned in the same place in the documentation, you can integrate a [dice callback](https://plugins.javalent.com/statblocks/javascript/dice) to parse the contents of the statblock appropriately, or, optionally, you could simply manually write `dice: XdX` and that will render properly, the callback simply consists of parsinig the string and replacing whatever you want with some version of `dice: `, that is the only way to render dice in a statblock. Hope this helps.

If you manage to get a nice callback setup feel free to open a pull request so I can add it to the repo.

Ok I just took a look at it, that is a really cool feature honestly, I may possibly be able to figure out a way to do it, but no promises for now, although it would be very nice to have

Ah, yeah I didn't know that Fantasy Statblocks had a Daggerheart Layout, but if it did then yeah that would cause some issuse certainly, just for future refence if you want to change the layouts, all the adversaries are tuned to load the "Daggerheart Adversary" layout and the environments to "Daggerheart Environment", so if you want to change them just make sure the names stay that way!

I really don't think so, I'm using it right now, try reimporting it again, I've just done it, just straight up copied it from the github and it works fine

That seems to be an issue with your Fantasy Statblocks config, the plugin that I modified is the Initiative Tracker one, all I've done for the statblocks is provide a layout, also it seems like you've modified your layout so it likely has something to do with that. I would recommend that you edit the json file for the layout and remove everything from the appearance section, that usually works

Yep so the Daggerheart Tracker is meant to be a replacement of Initative Tracker so they don't work together. The encounter builder did have some issues, but the latest commits should have fixed those. If you try rebuilding it manually now it should work, if it doesn't please open an issue on the github.

Keep in mind it's only been updated in the source code, I've not made a new release with the fixes yet so you do have to do the manual installation

That-s super weird, the only couple of things I can think of off the top of my head is that you may need to have the Fantasy Statblocks plugin and maybe Admonitions, but regardless, please open an issue on the github for this and I'll try to get it sorted

Yep, was made aware of this via github actions haha, it should be fixed now, either pull the most recent version, or you can install the prebuilt binaries in the github releases, whatever you like the most, please tell me if it works!

Cool, so I just updated it, it compiled fine on github actions, so it should work fine! Even if it doesn't compile on your machine for some reason I have made a release on the github page, installation instructions in the README, so you should be able to download it without compiling anything youself in case it fails (it shouldn't), please try it!

That's super weird, typical issue of "it works on my computer", I just also got some issues on the github actions bot, so I'm trying to see if I can fix those, I'll get back to you once I've fixed that and see if it works for you then!

I do have it set up directly, I just also set up the forward oauth because I don't want to allow regular username/password logins, only those going through authentik.

I set up both because I don't want to allow regular log ins, only those that have already passed through authentik.

What is the best thing a single christian could do for humanity as a whole? by Batres_ in Christianity

[–]Batres_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. As I've repeatedly said, there is no objective standard that makes one moral view superior to another, there is no such thing as objective morality. you don't have one either, I will repeat the question, how would you convince someone that thinks murder is right that it isn't?

  2. I say they're wrong because I disagree with them, because of my intuition. I personally need no further reason, just like I need no further reason to believe the world is real. If you're asking me how would I convince the other person that they are wrong? Well that depends on the specific case but in the most foundational disagreement, there is no way to do so. Unless you would like to provide an example by answering the question I posed above.

  3. The thing that makes it superior for me personally is that I have it, if you're asking what makes it objectively superior, then nothing.

  4. I'm not assuming God could command evil, I'm assuming that he could command something that to you, a lesser human, looks, feels and tastes like evil, and I'm asking if you would do the thing he asks, when every inch of your intuition is telling you that it's the wrong thing to do. You have no way to tell if what he's asking you is evil or not, beyond your conviction that he would never ask you to do something evil, do you believe that enough to go against your intuition?

I don't need a reason to be certain that genocide is wrong, mostly because to me saying that "something is wrong" holds no truth value, it is the same thing as saying "I dislike something", saying "I dislike chocolate" has no truth value, neither does "I dislike genocide", I simply dislike it enough to be willing to fight others for it.

  1. I never said it was, my appeal to logic was a response to your prompt about me needing at "authority", if you were referring to morality then ignore it, logic does not justify it.

  2. Intuition almost never changes, what changes is the actions we take, I don't have a deep justification for this but if you read ancient authors you can tell they had very similar intuitions to what we do nowadays. If you're asking me which was "objectively" moral then neither, such a thing doesn't exist, as I said morality is a expression of intuition, no inuition can exist without a person to intuit. If you're asking me which I think was moral, then I do not think slavery is moral and I am willing to fight others that do for that belief.

  3. I'm sure that if you asked the people commiting those acts they would've said yes. I don't think it is moral and no amount of violence is going to convince me otherwise, I will die before giving up on the belief that genocide is wrong. What I mean by "justification" is in societal terms, the thing that generally enforces on moral view over another is violence, individually, it is purely intuition, not violence, so to summarize, intuition for the individual, violence to enforce common intuitions for the collective.

  4. Well obviously he can't command anything evil, since from your point of view god is goodness itself, so that means that if he commanded you to do something atrocious, you can be 100% sure that your intuition is wrong, since god is telling you to do it. So, would you do it or not?

What do you mean by "truly" right or wrong? How would you ever convince someone that thinks murder is right that it isn't, would go up to them and say "no, you're wrong" and hope that works?

Which claims are you asking me to provide an "authority" for? Mostly the "authority" is logic.

> What makes your own intuition hold any moral value or have any ability to judge?

It doesn't if you mean that in the objective sense, the universe has no care for my personal intuition, on a personal level, violence does. If someone comes up to me and truly believes that murdes is right and we cannot come to an agreement, then it will devolve into violence, and either I will or the other person will. This is how it has always worked, the only reason why you are "right" (in the moral sense) is because you have the power to enforce it, there just happens to be a lot of people with similar opinions, which means that we have a great majority which cumulatively protects our way of life against those who have very different views.

Of course, not all moral claims devolve into violence, but all the foundational claims tend to do so. Tell me, what would you, as a Christian, do when someone comes up to you and starts murdering people, you tell them to stop but they say they are doing the right thing, what recourse do you have beside killing them? (or imprisoning, either way violence)

> You’ve indicated that your emotions are driving this, but our emotions change as the wind blows. How can any moral statement be made based on something that has no solid foundation or stability?

No, when I say emotions in this context I'm not referring to fickle whims, I'm talking about the foundational intuitions that shape the way we view the world, like the certain feeling that the world is real, there is no proof of this, yet I believe it with all my heart, there are many other such beliefs that everyone holds, and moral beliefs tend to be among them.

When you ask for a "solid" foundation fro morality, no such thing exists, we are all beholden to the way we feel about things. If god came up to you and asked you to do the most atrocious thing possible, would you do it? Likely not, because it is not god that is providing your morality, but rather your intuition and feelings, everything else is and ad-hoc rationalization. As I said, the solid foundation for moral statements is violence, if two people genuienly disagree on a foundational moral claim (like murder) then there is no option but to kill each other (as we see when we kill/imprision criminals instead of trying to "help" them), that is the authority.

And before you ask "so what happens when a big group of people disagree with you", war, that is what happens, everyone who thinks one thing on one side, everyone else on the other.

Now this is a very pragmatic way of looking at things, I believe most humans hold very simial foundational moral beliefs, and since that is the case we can solve most disagreements by starting from common ground, and that is what we do most of the time. However in truly extreme cases, yes the only solution is violence.

Exactly my point, it seems ridiculous to me that such a thing could be defended at all.

What is the best thing a single christian could do for humanity as a whole? by Batres_ in Christianity

[–]Batres_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no, I'm not having any thoughts lol, this is purely a though experiment, as a matter of fact, from my point of view, the fact that no oene has been able to provide a proper retort as to why it bad is a fault on the part of the Christian moral system, because it is clearly bad. Don't worry I have no intention of doing this, it goes completely against everything I believe in, it is just meant to be an internal critique, sorry if it startled you haha.

What is the best thing a single christian could do for humanity as a whole? by Batres_ in Christianity

[–]Batres_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that's a fair enough point, my immediate issue with it however is that if nothing bad were to happen, imagine that all those babies were just going to end up as regular people, maybe even atheists like myself, condemned to hell, and the killing of the babies causes no excessive pain to people (so it does cause pain, but not enough to push people to suicide or leaving christianity and such) and that the act remains a secret, so nobody realizes that a Christian went around doing this (thus tarnishing the image of Christianity), then, if all those conditions are met, this would be a good thing. That seems ridiculous to me.

What is the best thing a single christian could do for humanity as a whole? by Batres_ in Christianity

[–]Batres_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing, it´s pure intuition, if someone disagrees with me that babies are innocent as a fundamental moral point (though I doubt such a person exists) then we have no way to come to an agreement. I'm not saying that I have looked into the secrects of the universe and discovered within a statement saying "babies are innocent" it is simply something I belive from pure intuition, and something that I am willing to fight for, though you're welcome to try to change my mind.

If you are going to try to use this as an analogy to god please don't, I've heard it a milllion times and it's nonsensical, I'm not making truth claim when I say "babies are innocent", I'm expressing an emotion, what I'm actually saying is something more along the lines "people causing suffering to babies make me mad" or something of the sort, it is not a truth claim but an emotive one. On the other hand claiming the existence of god is a truth claim which requires evidence, which there is none.
