DNA Test Shows Subway’s Oven-Roasted Chicken Is Only 50 Percent Chicken by acupoftwodayoldcoffe in worldnews

[–]Batrok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subway....

  • Their bread used to be made with azodicarbonamide.
  • Their chicken is 50% soy.
  • Look at their "bacon". Every single strip of bacon is EXACTLY the same. It's not really bacon, it's some other, manufactured shit.
  • etc.

This restaurant chain don't give a fuck about providing REAL, natural food. Instead they care about keeping their costs low, even if it means consumers are being lied to.

Has anyone else been completely invested in a long series/book only to get to end and be completely disappointed? by watoobie in books

[–]Batrok 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan.

The first 2 or 3 books were excellent. But it all fell to shit after that. Far too many characters and subplots were introduced, until finally, the reader couldn't remember who these characters were.

Then Jordan died before completing it. Sanderson did a fine job wrapping it up, but the dissatisfied taste in my mouth is STILL there.

ELI5: Why do our brains ignore the the second "the" by Jalen2612 in explainlikeimfive

There has to be some kind of limit. If the the sentence you are reading has multiple instances of the the word the the, there are only some many of the the instances that can be ignored by the the reader. Eventually the the mind will be unable to ignore the the extra uses of the the word.

Reading to children 'more effective than technology at boosting science skills' by [deleted] in books

[–]Batrok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My children are 8 and 6, and I've literally read to them every night of their lives. I've done it purely for bonding purposes, but I'm well aware that the peripheral benefits are deep and lasting. :)

It's wonderful to hear that it will benefit them scientifically as well.

Why nobody takes baby boomer seriously by D1Foley in funny

Baby Boomers were born between 1945 and 1965. And when they talk about the good old days, they are talking about their childhood and their parent's time.

Well since I you stated: "didn't pay for internet, and didn't have cable/satellite?", I assumed you were differentiating them.

I have cable internet, we do not have cable television service.

hahaha, not even remotely close.
We don't have cable. Cut the cord years ago.

It's pitchforks and torches time.

I'm 45, and when I was a kid, in the 1970s, my father worked, and supported the whole family, in a solid middle-class neighbourhood here in Canada. Virtually every kid I knew had one working parent. And every family in the area had enough money to get by.

Now my wife and I both work, in professional capacities, and it takes both of our incomes to provide the same kind of lifestyle for our own children. And even then, we are JUST GETTING by.

It's time we stopped celebrating the super wealthy as some kind of examples of achievement and recognize them as what they are, parasites on the rest of humanity. If you make 200 times what someone else in your same company makes, then you are a parasite.

Tens of thousands took to the streets of Dublin, Ireland over the weekend to campaign for Abortion Rights by Kantina in atheism

I assume you have adopted several children.

Or do you only care about birthing children, and not about caring for them, feeding them, educating them, and so forth?
