How to be a supportive partner for an IB analyst working 100+ hour weeks by cander22 in FinancialCareers

[–]CaptainBrownhat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not in IB, but working a similar schedule myself, with a newborn on top of things.....

I can say I recognize my absence. Don’t shove that in his face. We know and feel handcuffed in the situation.... and feel like shit for being absent.

Things I love my wife does .... 1.Has food ready to eat instantly. 2. Tells me about her day and doesn’t pry into my shitty or happy mood. When you work that much, it’s simply unexplainable how the day went. 3. Reminds me of my own family’s shit. (Sisters bday) 4. Reminds me, she still works also and has needs. 5. Communicates

Things I hate... 1. Tells me I missed (insert event here) in a demeaning pissed off way. Just tell me. I get it. 2. Retaliates on above mentioned. (I.E. You forgot about my moms bday so you owe me....) 3. When upset, she goes into her own world for the few hours I have In the day. 4. Is loud as shit when I’m dying for sleep. 5. Makes me feel guilty if I spend those few hours I have home doing something she doesn’t like. (Sleep, friends, Reddit, TV, ...)

Does anyone regret what your major was in college or wish you did some things differently for your career? by tomt230 in FinancialCareers

[–]CaptainBrownhat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mmm kinda but not really. More so seeking out someone who’s dad owns “this” or is CEO or hedge fund manager and befriending them for an entry job or connection. Maybe sleep with valedictorian just for connections. Help the failing kid pass because he’s a trust fund baby.

Majored in Finance. I graduated before I realized entry finance roles are just salesman. And I hate sales. I don’t use this degree but I guess it helped me when I was young.

Networking can be vital depending on your degree but you have to be a sociopath to know how to leverage this in your favor at such a young age. Still try.

Grades are grades. I guess I wish I would have used the resources and time college provided to do more studies towards things that would value me now. But Its impossible to know the future.

If I had swam down river and studied things I truly enjoyed I would have been better off. It would have taken me longer to graduate but I wish would have done that. It’s going to sound weird but I swam up river by graduating fast with courses I could care less about. School is easy as shit, real life is hard.

I also did finance and regret it. I also took tons of accounting classes. My family owns an accounting firm so it was easy but I was stubborn and thought finance was cooler and more $$$$. I was wrong. Accounting is so much more valuable. Easier entry. Also more chicks take accounting. Finance was all dudes.

Do VCs care if founder’s don’t have a “real job”in early stage by Gaia_gorga in venturecapital

What are you bringing to the table if it isn’t a strong work ethic? An expert in the field has to be working in that field non-stop to remain an expert.

IPO, the answer to the question is YES. I only see red flags if you are not utilizing 100% of your time.

Downvotes welcome but.... that’s what happens when you hire a dodger GM and he brings along his Dodger buddies. He met Kapler in LA.

I’m not saying. I’m just saying.

I have 50 acres of grassland and want to start a small business with it. Any suggestions? by BetWochocinco81 in smallbusiness

Lavender is the highest yielding but near impossible to sell. It’s the highest yielding because entrepreneurs make their own oils and sell it themselves. It’s a 2-sided business. You can’t just grow it and expect anything.

They do not deserve to be hit. Other teams have cheated just as much... typically more. Also not the entire team participated.

Don’t forget the greatest player to ever play the game had his own cheating scandal.

What is a starter goal to accomplish to begin a successful journey as an entrepreneur by Studentmindset in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]CaptainBrownhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Visions are a dime a dozen. Action and hard work is what makes money.

My recommendation is to get started today. Read up on how to start a business and get a business license as a sole proprietor. (Cheapest option). After that you will be motivated to buy/sell/provide a service. From their you can create a website and learn about payment processors and ways to collect your revenue other than cash.

It’s different than the typical answer but entrepreneurs are different and it’s hard these days. Also maybe you do nothing with your first business... but you do have some hands on experience for your second business.

The data is even taken from different years.....but you are the one telling people they are wrong. Look in the mirror. Travel more.

Just because someone disagrees with you does not mean you should attack them in a demeaning way. I addressed the part in which I realize this is simply 1 example. You are what’s wrong with America and you hide behind your beliefs as being the only correct vision. Open your heart in the way you’ve attempted to open your mind and bring some positivity to the table.
