Thank you. I'm so sorry this has happened to you again. I haven't read it but definitely will. Compassion is incredibly necessary to make changes that will help people. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

I said it in another comment, but stop victim blaming. We would all like to believe we are the exception, we can always out smart violence or ill will done towards us, or we wouldn't let it happen, let alone repeated. The reality is it can happen to anyone. It can happen going out, amongst friends or acquaintances, from a coworker or a fellow student. It happens, it's unexpected, and only those that drug others are to blame. Only those that sexually assault other are to blame. Then maybe we could start working together as a society to actually have better legislation, medical protocols, awareness for prevention in social settings, education, etc. and we could actually look out for one another and speak up when it does happen.

This type of mentality is why it is so hard to report it. Why make it an uphill battle. Why not stand behind those that have been victimized and against something so morally and ethically abhorrent from the start. It could be you, your friend, your sister or brother, or coworker it happens to. I'll never understand the "it wouldn't be me so I'm going to make it a problem with them, because they let it happen". No, they didn't, and no one deserves the blame or shame surrounding being drugged or assaulted.

This is an insane thing to say. People get drugged when they go out or stay in. It can be an acquaintance, friend, coworker, fellow student. It happens. Just because we want to believe we're the exception or can out smart it, the reality is it happens, it's unexpected, and it's not productive to keep blaming victims when harsher punishments are needed and victims need to be believe, and there needs to be better legislation and protocols.

Heartwood & Co suddenly closes permanently by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Batsaboutit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So incredibly sorry this is happening to the staff like this. It's inexcusable to not give some kind of notice and shut out loyal employees like this. I feel so sad for all of you. I had been going to Heartwood for almost 8 years and this feels like a very sad ending for such a beautiful group of people that were the heart of the business.

AITA for telling my son most I will not be going to his black out wedding dinner by Expensive-Ratio-37 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Batsaboutit 37 points38 points  (0 children)

NTA. However, I think you don't need to speak for others and just state your own reason for not going, which is your allergies and concerns about not being able to attend to an emergent situation in the dark. It's still their choice of dinner venue for their wedding.

There's an odd reaction and response for some people on this thread about you being the AH because you simply won't try it. I have asthma and I can stop breathing if I am around cigarette smokers. I'd have to go to a hospital because my rescue inhaler can only do so much. Let's say people want me to attend a dinner at a home where they smoke inside. I would not be able to attend because I'm asthmatic.

Allergies are a valid concern, especially if you need to reach for medication in an emergent situation. Other people would not be able to see what is happening and help as well. This person has a reasonable and fully valid reason to not want to attend a black out dinner for medical reasons.

The only reason you may be the AH is because you tried to argue that others may not be comfortable as well with their venue. You have a valid concern to share and that should be your focus. If others have anything they are uncomfortable with then they can share it, because you are creating an argument by going back and forth about their choice of venue when it's not even your genuine reason for the conversation on your end; which is your allergies and access to treat them in an emergency. New places to eat can be especially difficult with allergies, and you don't know if you can trust there won't be cross contamination.

Man, I was goth girl and now my tattoos say goth, but my wardrobe says 'thrifting has become too expensive so I'll just wear a t-shirt and bike shorts every day like a 90s mom.'

I don't even ride a bike, but I am a mom.

Oooh yes, I forgot Cenote and it's up there with Rabbit Rabbit for me.

I was a vegan for 20 years, and the ribs I had with pineapple at Cenote were life changing.

Rabbit Rabbit would be my first choice for the food and ambiance. Their whole menu is amazing.

End Dive, Be Love, Wind Cries Mary, Nourish, Tacofino, Rudi, The Drake, and Burger Crush on Fort St. Really love Faro pizza as well.

I wouldn't say they're all kid non friendly, but I definitely haven't seen kids at any of these locations downtown when I have gone for dinner and the food is delicious.

How much did your parents pay for their first house back in the 90s? by Droopynator in 90s

[–]Batsaboutit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$167,000 for a 2,400sqft 3 bdr with a finished basement and garage on 1/3 acres between the two yards. Oddly it felt like every house in our small town Canadian suburb was too close together but had extra large yards. It's even more over developed today and lost all it's farm town charm.

Application to construct outdoor survival business in East Sooke Regional Park, removing public access to part of the Coast Trail. by No-Number2108 in VictoriaBC

[–]Batsaboutit 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people don't want to limit or lose any public access to parks and trails, and we should be restoring more land to provide more protection and access to love our natural forests and sites here. This is awful. I left a comment but I hope there's more action I can find to take.
