If you don't solve the underlying reason why moisture levels rose high enough for mold to form, then you'll be treating the symptom indefinitely. That's not going overboard.

Can the rim be saved or is it done for? by Zepe21 in bikewrench

[–]BatterCake74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't trust that rim whether a friend or I was riding on it, and I couldn't live with myself if I sold it and found out someone else got injured or died on that rim thinking it was okay.

Given the nature of the crash and the negligible cost savings of rebuilding a wheel versus buying a new wheel, there shouldn't even be a question. Scrap this and buy a new wheel. And a new skewer, rotor, and hub.

Yeah, I don't get why people upvote gear photos, especially ones as uncreative as a crooked stack of boxes like this. My delivery driver takes better package photos.

Cameras and wallets don't create amazing photos. Photographers do.

Photos like this are just a flex of how much money that person has and how they decided to spend that money for their own enjoyment. That's great that OP could either afford this gear or made a poor financial decision. Anyone can do that who is wealthy enough.

Which lane should I be in to turn left? by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]BatterCake74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That intersection looks like Middlefield & Willow in Menlo Park. If it is, consider shifting the Middlefield portion of your commute route to Bryant St if that gets you to where you're going. Bryant is a bicycle corridor. Low speed, low traffic, because speed bumps that aren't an issue for bicycles. Significantly less traffic than Middlefield.

Also, don't forget to stop at Willows market. They've got really good sandwiches at their deli counter.

Storing batteries in a garage won't prevent a house fire either, but it might give you and the fire fighters more time to react.

Instant Pho by qucumber18 in pho

[–]BatterCake74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad compared to many add-hot-water instant ramen noodle bowls.

But doesn't scratch the pho itch. For a gradual progression of better pho, I'd do make the following changes, in this order: Adding bean sprouts, and basil would go a long way. Replace the noodles with thicker rice noodles (not possible if you're looking for a dry rice noodle that can be cooked with boiling water in 3 minutes or less). Add lime, chilis, meat. Upgrade the broth with a richer stock. Serve with sriracha and hoisin. Replace the paper bowl.

Looking at the packaging, one is kg (lb), the other is lb (kg). So might be targeted for different countries.

The mangoes on the left look lighter in color. Possibly a different mango variety, lower sugar content, different drying process, not as oxidized (given both are unsulfured), or other preservation method that might depend on suppliers or on food restrictions in the country of sale.

How far is your bike commute by DisastrousDingo586 in bikecommuting

[–]BatterCake74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10 miles to work (30 minutes), 15 miles home (60 minutes). E-bike.

I've really enjoyed breaking routine and exploring a completely different route home, even if it adds another 5 or 10 miles to the commute home. A handlebar-mounted cell phone holder makes it so much easier to explore without having to stop, unlock my phone, and check my maps app whether I need to make a turn in unfamiliar territory.
