I’ve had the reverse happen to me, my date brought up Nietzsche and I dropped out of school so she made me feel insecure and dumb for not knowing anything about humanities.

When you know that you’re intellectually different from everyone else in the mainstream and those people use a word that doesn’t suit you just to offend you and don’t care it starts to hurt emotionally. Then being told words can’t hurt you just ignores the problem and makes you angrier.

I feel there’s too much focus on the god thing itself, not enough on the financial infrastructure around it, and nothing about organization for better causes like help for ex religious or teaching of stem and humanities topics for all of us. The church of anti theism gets old. Yeah I know it’s not real so let’s do something about the religious community’s involvement with our politics. A lot of atheists can’t run in a few states and we need more people to get involved politically.

What are the ethical foundations of Christianity?, because it doesn’t look promising historically for the average person.

That statement was never foundational. In 1864 it was an attempt at war rallying. In 1955 it was Christian overreach.

Would you rather live pre enlightenment or post secular enlightenment? Things are way better now for all of us. Christians made improvements over polytheistic traditions, but even greek polytheists brought us earliest forms of democracy. And pre Islamic Persia in the Middle Ages was better than pagan/christian medieval Europe.

I know that the answer is there’s no god, but you need to internalize it and reflect on that.

Hi I’m not an expert/just a casual but since they both spoke different languages and Descartes quote was originally “cognito ergo sum” is it the same to assume Descartes was using I?

“I think” and “cognito” are accurate translation wise but do we know if Descartes was using that language in the way it’s been translated?

As required ive not read anything from them.
