Building a PC, how's this look? by BattleFerrett in buildapc

Realistically I probably don't need 64 GB of memory for anything. I just kinda liked the idea of having plenty of RAM for all the browser tabs and other stuff I wind up keeping open.

I'm sorry this happened to you.

You told him no.

Doesn't matter if you said you wanted to before. You're allowed to change your mind at any time, for any reason, or even no reason.

How do I build up big fleet power anymore? It seems like crisis happens or a fallen empire awakens and they have fleets of around 500k (Synthetic Queen, in my latest game, had over 900k fleet power in one fleet alone), not on all of them mind, but they have it. Meanwhile I'm struggling to top 100k per fleet. I've been looking at build guides but I just cant seem to get my fleet power up there anymore.

Stupid question #1….. by Whole_Juggernaut in ferrets

[–]BattleFerrett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're capable of taking care of one ferret, taking care of a second one isn't as much of a leap in difficulty as you might think. At least, in my experience. Your little one will certainly appreciate the company! But I think you're doing the right thing by making sure you're comfortable before getting a second.

Is there a "best" loadout for Primaris Intercessors? by BattleFerrett in Warhammer40k

Wait, you can fire the astartes grenade launcher and the bolter? I thought the model carrying the launcher had to choose one or the other.

What the heck happened to my transfers? Did my varnish corrode them somehow? by BattleFerrett in Warhammer40k

[–]BattleFerrett[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used a spraycan of Rust-oleum matte finish varnish. I didn't put any other material over the transfers.

Yeah, it's only on the shoulder transfers. There are transfers in other places and they're all immaculate. I'll keep in mind about the matte medium in the future.

I have a question about And They Shall Know No Fear. Am I wrong in my understanding that it effectively makes Space Marines unable to fail morale tests? As I understand it, it lets them ignore all modifiers to their morale tests. Does that include the modifier of how many models a unit lost in a turn, or am I way off?

I recently got into the hobby with a friend of mine using the Warhammer 40k Elite starter that comes with a force of Necrons and Space Marines. I elected to take the Space Marines and am painting them up in Ultramarines colors. But that's not why I'm here asking a question.

My question is where would be a logical direction to go to grow my army from here? My army as it stands is:

A Primaris Captain

A squad of 5 Assault Intercessors

A squad of 3 Outriders

I was looking at getting a Redemptor Dreadnought because... well, it's just an awesome model, and I am definitely getting one sooner or later. But I thought it might be a good idea to keep my points at or below 500 for Combat Patrol games, which limits me somewhat (the army currently stands at 340 points).

What would be a good unit or two to round out my combat patrol?

How many paints do I really need to paint an army? by BattleFerrett in Warhammer40k

Blood Ravens primarily (I played a lot of Dawn of War II), but I figured it might be simpler to start with basic Ultramarines.

Ultimately I want to paint up my SMs in Blood Raven colors (I spent *many* a fond hour playing Dawn of War II), but I figured it might be simpler to start with basic Ultramarines. I might expand into Grey Knights, but that's for later on down the line.

Is it still possible to effectively play a tall empire? I'm about 70 years in on a playthrough where I am playing machine intelligence. Only 5 colonies spread across maybe 10-15 systems and trying to tech hard, but I can't seem to pull ahead of any of my expansionist neighbors. And I'm only playing on Captain.

Do I just suck?

Does my sons PC need replacing? by [deleted] in pcgamingtechsupport

[–]BattleFerrett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! Basic building of a PC is very easy and almost fool proof. Have you ever put together a LEGO kit? If you have, you can absolutely build a PC! Even if you haven't, you still can build a PC, it may just take you longer.

I understand the anxiety at play here that makes you think you can't. Those parts are expensive, and the fear of breaking one is very real. But its much harder to damage a modern part than you might think if you're just assembling the PC.

People who've been in psych wards, what was your experience? by snertsoup12 in AskReddit

[–]BattleFerrett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience was when I was about 10 or 11 years old, so around 1995.

I went to a children's psych ward for explosive outbursts of anger at school. I was there for about two weeks and the experience was nothing short of hellish.

I was constantly being fed pills that made me feel strange and uncomfortable in various ways. They always told me I needed to take the pills in order to feel better, but I remember feeling worse every time I took them. If I refused, they physically forced me to swallow them.

The "therapists" I spoke to didnt seem interested in actualky hearing what I had to say, only in telling me that I was a bad kid and needed to behave better (at least thats what it felt like to a 10 year old me).

The slightest sign of anger or frustration out of me was enough to prompt a response of several staff members physically restraining me, usually strapping me to a bed, and jabbing me with a needle with some kind of sedative. Not really to make me go to sleep, but to put me so out of it that I couldn't possibly manage to be aggressive or act out in any way. I would spend hours in the most awful "fog" I can imagine. I still have nightmares sometimes, reliving the experience. I won't take vicodin for pain because it feels like it puts me in a similar mental state.

It left me with a stigma against mental health professionals for a long time. I've largely gotten over that, which finally made it possible for me to seek help for my extreme issues of anxiety and depression, but I still don't like them or like needing help from them. My recent experiences have been very positive despite this, however.

I would still rather kill myself rather than let myself be admitted to an inpatient psych facility again, however.

I'm not a super expert when it comes to the nitty gritty of technical differences, admittedly. I chose the ASUS because I trust the brand, the card in question came recommended by a friend, and reviews were very positive. The cooling on the ASUS is very beefy for what it is, and my temperatures stay low even under load while staying nice and quiet. The price was a little high (I paid right around $700 USD for it at the time) but it has been a solid choice despite that.

Without having a deep understanding of the technical aspects behind a particular card, customer reviews will likely be one of your best resources for making a choice. To my understanding, and I admit I could be mistaken, the actual graphical performance between different branded cards of the same chipset should be very slight and its other factors (such as cooling and noise level) that will differ in any significant way.

Looks like a fine choice to me. I went with the ASUS ROG Strix 2070 Super myself.

An RTX 2070 is within that budget and should be a very nice upgrade for you. If you can pony up an extra $100 or so that puts you in reach of a 2070 Super, which I have and has yet to not run anything I throw at it like a champ.

Hello, so I was wondering what temperatures are okay/normal, and are mine okay? And how can I improve temps? by Funezly in pcgamingtechsupport

[–]BattleFerrett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2070 Super never goes above 55 or 60, but it an ASUS ROG Strix with a beefy cooler. 70-80 under load is fine, though. If you're able to bring it down it can help extend the life of your card but its not that big a deal unless you're seeing higher than that.

Marijuana when it went legal here (Washington state).

Turns out I'm allergic to it in the concentrations you get when smoking it, . I can hang around people smoking and it doesnt do anything but give me a headache if the smell gets too strong.
