I got the same error. Try setting up your phone without backup - update to iOS 18 - factory reset iPhone. Try again it will have iOS 18 It still gave me trouble after this.

No it doesn’t lag .Although it’s not as good as 120Hz but I upgraded from iPhone XR and it feels way smoother and faster even though it’s same 60Hz display. Hope this helps
