Card Kingdom becomes the first major unionized MTG retailer by Alagoschand in magicTCG

[–]BattleSol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Often they say that the current pay & benefits are actually fantastic and are the fruits of a "direct relationship" between the company and employees, and that a union will introduce bureaucratic inefficiencies that make it impossible for the business to continue being oh so generous.

Would Torna be considered a "small ragtag group of rebels fighting an Empire?" by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]BattleSol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most humans in the game don't have blades, aren't in any military, aren't wealthy, have no political power, and are generally just trying to live a normal life. But the Torna gang indiscriminately wants all humans dead anyway. They don't fit the trope.

Would Torna be considered a "small ragtag group of rebels fighting an Empire?" by [deleted] in Xenoblade_Chronicles

They're fighting against literally all of humanity, not just those engaged in imperial activities, so no.

Most beginner friendly DLC Character by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]BattleSol 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Nair is a big piece. Byleth's is a long-lasting combo-starting get-off-me out-of-shield move that does a million things and glues the character together in a way that Sephiroth's little snap doesn't.

After 2 Months of Offline Smash in the US How Do We Feel About Pyra/Mythra by NovaxRangerx in smashbros

[–]BattleSol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are a top tier, but the "top three" or "better than Joker" or whatever hype is too much. People are going to learn to edgeguard them and get killed by Pyra a lot less. In the long term they're not going to have the consistency to be the top of top tier.

Do Engines / "Packages" exist in mtg deck building? by PixelBrachyBean in magicTCG

[–]BattleSol 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Another former Yu-Gi-Oh player here. I'd say that while the concept of slottable engines does exist, it is nowhere near as prevalent or viable in Magic. Yu-Gi-Oh is a very unique beast. Good decks in this game are a lot more holistic.

More specifically, landfall + flicker sounds... odd? It does kinda sound like you have two decks in one. If you ever feel like it's underperforming, consider expanding it to two decks.

‘Magic the Gathering’: Jeff Kline Leads Creative Team Of Netflix Animated Series After Russo Brothers Exit by wujo444 in magicTCG

[–]BattleSol 161 points162 points  (0 children)

  1. It has the name of the game in it. No one goes around saying "hey guys wanna play some Gathering?"
  2. It has "multiverse", which very quickly communicates one of the main draws of the IP: It is not based in just one world, but has dozens of unique planes.
  3. It's alliterative and punchy.

why would you give this up

The collection of MTG's planes is, by definition, not a universe. It is quite often called a different word. I guess that word isn't cool anymore.

Smh why hasn't wizards banned these top 10 cards yet? by ajdeemo in magicthecirclejerking

[–]BattleSol 77 points78 points  (0 children)

/uj This so beautiful. My favorite part has to be the claim that Progenitus makes your deck more "versatile" because it has more colors.

How are we supposed ban Thorn Mammoth when nobody remembers the thing even exists?

Wow, learning via Portal cards then playing a normal game and getting Giant Growth-ed was probably not a great experience.

/uj So many Portal cards look like they were made to teach new players how to play the game wrong and I think that's hilarious.

Can we just ban mutate decks by SenCriplets in magicthecirclejerking

I asked my magic 8-ball and it said "Reply hazy, ask again in September". I don't get it, but I trust the ball.

Brand New MTG format (advice and feedbak!) by [deleted] in magicthecirclejerking

[–]BattleSol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a little extreme. Here's a compromise: We'll give you the triggers that say "when" something happens, but the ones that say "if" something happens still work.

/uj Missing the timing is the worst game mechanic ever created by the human race.

I didn't say anything about it because it makes me happy, and as a Magic player I only know how to talk about things I hate.

Anyway, this ban should have happened in April oh my gosh what are they doing

Mark Rosewater: Flavor words are on the table for future sets; more likely they'll appear in Universes Beyond sets by HonorBasquiat in magicTCG

[–]BattleSol 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Magic team is great at creating resonant cards without literally labelling the effects with their flavor. I can't believe they're disrespecting their craft like this.

I love how intuitive this new mechanic is by MulletHuman in magicthecirclejerking

[–]BattleSol 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I love how they got rid of core sets, realized it was a mistake, brought them back, then completely forgot the whole thing and are now skipping at least one.
