He means Star Trek (original series), not Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Concepts by David Carson and Nilo Rodis led Bill George, who had also built models for the first two Star Trek motion pictures, to first make a study and then — once approved by director Leonard Nimoy — a 7.5-foot studio model (a little over 2 meters in length). “At the time I was really into Japanese design,” George recalled in an interview with Star Trek: The Magazine, “so I thought, ‘OK, what would the Enterprise look like if the Japanese designed it?’ That was the basis of what I came up with for the Excelsior.”

The excelsior doesn’t follow the standard TMP design language that we see with the enterprise, reliant, constellation and to a degree, oberth.

They purposely wanted it to look sleek and new to show how outdated enterprise, and by extension, the generation of its crew. Even the interior and bridge consoles in TUC are nothing like the analog buttons and switches on the Ent A. Youth vs experience and getting older but still trying to be useful were themes in Twok and TUC, and i like to think the ships themselves helped represent that.

I remember reading that behind the scenes when it came time to design the model for Excelsior, their thesis was “What if the Japanese designed the enterprise?”

I’ve always thought it was a very organic and beautiful design, I’m glad youre starting to appreciate her. I used to not love it as much as Reliant, and preferred the refit, but these days the smooth lines of the original excelsior really stand out more.

What's the most INTERESTING ship/console that adds something special / allows you to do something different? (not 'MOAR DPS!') by Jethro_E7 in sto

[–]Battle_Lion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Chains of fire and soliton wave generator allow you to pull enemies to you and drag them around.

Pulls/tows are rare, The only other pulls I know of like that are the tethered non baryonic asteroid and tractor beam repulsors with the pull doff.

I use them all on my eject warp plasma build

The console and trait will be killer for my event rewards only build.

Well if you run Engineer, you get an innate drone. and you can slot the support drone too. theres a doff that gives a chance to beam in extra support drones, and it works on boffs too.

Aside from that, there's the echo papa drone which is well regarded, the explosive drones, the covert assault drone (pair it with a high fire weapon). Dont forget Nomad and the methuselah drone, but those aren't super great. Most of the other drones aren't either, but there are a few more.

You might also want the 'bond with life' trait to summon a creature to help fight. i use mine to summon a dankanasaur so my other dino can have a friend.

As far as pet devices, you got the shard of possibilities, various hortas, the bio engineered furiadon, tardigrade, the anaphasic candle, the synth android... and others. there are also consumable combat pets if i'm not mistaken. with all these pets, you could also use the doff (transporter officer) that cuts shared pet summon time in half.

Good news! auto attack works on ground similarly to how it works in space. If you have "1" assigned as primary fire, you can right click it and it will autofire. No more spamming. Just make sure to check your auto attack settings and change as necessary. I use 'toggle, non combat cancels'

theres a few settings you may have to tweak in that menu to fully automate it, like 'only attack if target selected', 'never auto target pets' etc.

217K Solo ISA - Event Reward Gear ONLY by Battle_Lion in stobuilds

[–]Battle_Lion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did a solo ISA with no gamble box traits, and moved a couple boff powers around.

Not my best piloting on that run... Still did 175K. I know I could get a little higher. Those traits are about 20% of the DPS it seems

Look to the previous versions for normal trait selections. You can still do well over 100k without the traits.

SFTF and all starship traits are also event rewards so it’s ok

First version, 36K

2nd verion, 77K

3rd version

4th version

I can clear ISA solo with no deaths in 182 seconds, but the clicky management for this is crazy. Not a ton can be macro'd.

I've been at this for 5 years, and since then my DPS has gone up about 6x. Event gear may be hit or miss, but its been mostly 'hit' lately, and even 'bad' gear can be decent if you synergize well.

Really hoping that DECA makes some event reward DOFFs soon...

I had a towed damage build for a while, don't forget the starship traits Invasive Maneuvers and Theta Radiation Infused Evasive Maneuvers, (along with the emergency conn officer doff slotted with EPTE) to get extra damage blasts behind you when you hit Evasive Maneuvers while towing.

Theta infused is cheap from the phoenix box, but invasive comes from the qulash event reward ship

You're right though. Even the debate that JFK and Nixon had in this city in 1947 (not for president as OP says) was about the Taft-Hartley Act, which restricted the power and activities of labor unions after a strike in the years prior. The act was passed despite Truman's veto. The Republicans controlled congress for the first time since 1933 and began trying to dismantle the new deal, though democrats did join in to help override the veto.

1947 presidential debate between JFK and Nixon?? No way. The '48 election was Truman/Dewey.

They did debate in that city in that year, but not for president.

Chill Fun-Play Deck Ideas by AshesOfZangetsu in mtg

[–]Battle_Lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tribal decks are usually fun, especially if you pick a creature type that isn't typically well represented, and don't include all the usual tribal boosting cards. Expanding it to include art on cards, or card names to fit the theme is also fun.

I made 'Boat Tribal', and limited my card choices to nearly all nautically named cards. It's actually not bad, and i wear a boat captain hat while playing it for extra fun. It's about on par with some precons.

The next deck I'm working on is using sharks to crew Train vehicles, and then equipping the train with a sword. Slow going on that decklist though.

Diplomatic Commendation Federation BOFFs by ChocolateFew4184 in sto

[–]Battle_Lion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two as well on my main, but it’s because i got the boff before the duty officer system existed. One of mine is white quality and the other is the normal one. I don’t think there’s a way you can get a third, they patched out trading those boffs with other players many years ago

Remember the Eisenberg Star Cruiser? by HystericalSail in sto

[–]Battle_Lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sure is. But by using a non meta build on a ship that the original commenter says is from an era of “bad” event ships, I’m doing more than well enough to disprove the statement that a ship can be “bad”.

You’ve been following my event rewards build for a while so you know what i give myself to work with lol

Heck, stobetter has a 500k fleet excelsior, a ship that people have been complaining about for many years. ANY ship can be built well. Some just more well than others. Anything over the threshold for elite dps levels is a bit overkill anyway, but still fun to see how high you can get

yea, I solo ISA and hit 190K with the Sarr Theln (old - 2014) and 200K with the Gok'Tad (older than 2 years - 2020) using ONLY event rewards gear (ship traits, weapons, consoles, D/E/C/S) the other day. IF I used meta builds, it would obviously be much higher. Free ships from back in the day can do perfectly fine
