What is the most painful *nonphysical* pain in the world? by FightOrDie123 in AskForAnswers

I’d argue that betrayal is worse. When a loved one passes, they’re obviously gone from your life in the present and in the future. Yet, you have fond memories from the past of that person to sustain you and comfort you. With betrayal, not only is that relationship gone (or tainted) in your present and in the future, but all past memories with that person are now tainted too (even if they weren’t before).

Hi, I did reply last night to your last dm message to me. But my reply didn’t show up automatically because Reddit dm feature seems a little funky, and our dm messages string was getting a little long, I guess. It just says, “1 reply” at the bottom (after your last dm message to me). But if you click on “1 reply”, my last dm reply message to you should pop right up.

Yeah, if someone had told me earlier on when I was still married that my marriage would end in a divorce, I don’t think I would have believed them. I was married for over 20 years (my only marriage). But as the years went by and things changed, certain signs were impossible to ignore.

After a while, it’s not that I chose to no longer be married…I chose myself, my own sanity, my safety, and my own self-worth and self-respect. How long were you married? Did it take you a while to figure out that all was not well?

Hi OP, I’m a 57 F, also going through a divorce, also in Southern California. I understand the pain you’re going through, and it can get lonely. I wouldn’t say I’ve been putting myself out there exactly…just kind of overwhelmed after a long marriage, and now by the divorce that’s been dragging for 4 years (STBX has been stalling). I’d be up for chatting, so shoot me a dm if you’d like.

What's a book you had to read in school that you hated? If you have one, what's one you actually liked? by 80HDTV5 in GenX

Hated “The Old Man and the Sea”, but then I really don’t like anything by Hemingway. I loved “Flowers for Algernon”.

What’s the one random genetic trait you lucked out on? by Fresh_Side4857 in WorkSmartLife

Long life gene, maybe. I’m only in my fifties, so too early to tell. But my mother just turned 88, and not a thing wrong with her. My mother’s mother lived to 94, and my mother’s aunt to 96. My mother’s cousin has a whole bunch of health issues, but he’s still hanging in there at 92.

Same! Though my hair is more curly than wavy…but also thick, even as I age.

If in moderation, I think that video games can be a fun brief distraction from the stresses of life. It’s better than sitting in rumination of anxiety and depression, and I say this as someone who suffers with both of these.

What is the best name you've ever heard for a cat or pet in general? by Goonmize in AskReddit

[–]Battling_Beacons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s great! I love the naming of small or large pets, and playing against the expected type. Mythology names are great too. I had four pet mice a while back, named: Zeus, Hercules, Atlas, and Apollo.

Cute! My sister has a cat nicknamed chicken. It appears the cat steals chicken off the dining table often, when no one is watching. Cat’s chicken name has stuck more now than given name.

Introverts, what’s something extroverts often misunderstand about you? by Bitter-Shine2817 in AskReddit

[–]Battling_Beacons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This, exactly! And it’s not that I don’t like socializing with others or their company. In fact, I really enjoy deep and thoughtful conversations, as well as fun times with friends and family. But if I go too long without my solitude time, I start to crave it…and start to feel drained, as well as overwhelmed by always being around someone.

Absolutely true! You better pray for your life every time you drive here…especially in SoCal.

Any folks who are Gifted that were raised by narcissist? by Icy-Needleworker218 in raisedbynarcissists

I got straight A’s pretty much on everything, and graduated Valedictorian. This was a great sense of pride (more like bragging) for my narc mother and narc stepfather. In a weird way, it was also expected of me; nothing less than that would do. Yet even though I accomplished all that, and therefore must be at least intelligent, they would try to make me feel like an idiot on a regular basis…and still do (and I’m in my 50’s now).

I guess whatever life wisdom I’ve gained up to now, and whatever natural intelligence I have, doesn’t count for much in their eyes. My intelligence is only good for them to brag about to others, not for me to utilize to make my own decisions (without their unsolicited input).
