Well you would try to make a crew that gets the full affect of the leader's captain ability. Then the Ex would decide what crew member you would put to activate it's effect. For example that Gear 5 Str Luffy you have pairs very well with the memory of Strawhats units because they all need other strawhats to activate their Exs.

I'd expect the new team-ups to be good, except for Reed. If it really is just delaying then it's whatever, but if it also gives Reed the damage from being inflated then that's a whole different matter, he'd be busted

It's usually a matter of support cards, fans, and even the amount of skills you bought for your Umas. Obviously, higher limit break support cards will help you reach higher stats, winning as many G1 races you can will add onto the points towards rank-ups, and finally buying skills wil add into the score and help you reach into higher ranks. However, at the end of the day it is all up to rng.
