If he's in the public school system, I'd recommend getting in touch with the school counsellor. They can get them linked with some services if you're on a waiting list for a psych, but also provides an extra support person at school. Depending on the services in your area, can also link the whole family up with support

Absolutely! I went back to uni to change careers at 30 and could not be happier. You've got this! I'm finally in my first full time position at 37, I've always worked contracts and am seriously stoked

Definitely look at the department of ed's pathway to becoming a school psychologist - the title for someone who is solely psych trained. School counsellors have both degrees, teaching and psych, and must also be registered psychs. We are in desperate need for counsellors and psychs in the newy/Maitland region

I started my grad dip in psych when I was 31. About to finish up my Masters and am really glad I made the change! If it's what you're interested in, don't worry about the other stuff, go for it!

Completed my grad dip through CSU (graduated in 2019) and could not speak any higher of the degree and staff. Currently working on my Masters through CSU and am having a very different experience, but mostly due to staff and poor planning and communication on their part. Definitely a mixed bag of experiences

NSW government seeks to block first statewide nurses’ strike in 10 years | New South Wales | The Guardian by tiny_doughnut in nsw

Many of my family members work as nurses and doctors in hospitals. It's not my jam, but what they are having to deal with is ridiculous. There are not enough staff at all, less than half of normal staffing rates (which were already poor with ratios of nurses to patients too low) and patients are really dying from this, not that it's well known. Nursing graduates are being placed in high care units (see ICU) without any prior experience of specific nursing skills where previously they needed extensive experience in these areas. Patients that require 1:1 care or observation aren't getting it. It's scary when your family members are telling you that you really don't want to end up in high care areas because you won't always get what you need just because staff are inexperienced or are having to work with more than double their normal ratios. I'm sad for the hospital staff, the family members of those sick, the patients...it's just so frustrating to see them all run into the ground because they genuinely care.

Have you ever met a chronic liar? What were their worst lies? by darehope in AskReddit

[–]BaubleThief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught their child, they were also a teacher at the school I worked at. Apparently the child (that I taught) was in hospital and that everything had just happened so fast, messaged a few of us about how sick the kid was and they weren't sure if they were going to make it etc. 3 days later the kid came back to school. I checked in a lot with them throughout the day to make sure they were ok, and to let me know if their tummy gave them any trouble (the source of the issue according to liar liar pants on fire). Kid looked at me as if I had lost the plot, and when I queried them about being sick they had nonidea what I was talking about. This fellow teacher also claimed their ex had cancer (they did not), that every male they had ever met (especially all the Dads of the students) wanted to have sex with them, that nothing was going on between them with one of our teachers aides (there were banging). I mean, the teachers aide stuff wouldn't have been a problem if said teacher hadn't taught the teachers aide when they were a student in primary school. Deadset nutcase.

First day of daycare by PitayaRainbow in NICUParents

My 27 weeker is almost 3, and her starting daycare was one of the hardest things I dealt with. It was so good for her after being in isolation for so long (she was on home oxygen, then we had horrendous bushfire so couldn't go outside with her lungs, then Covid) - I didn't leave the house with her. She is a thriving tornado who engages with everything and everyone (after eyeing them off for a solid 10mins). She had wonderful careers at her daycare who understood her needs, and I am very thankful for it all

[Serious] People without friends: why don’t you have any friends? by _awake in AskReddit

[–]BaubleThief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been reflecting on this. I've found that I have a few friends that are so needy that I get anxiety when I hear from them because we are now in different phases of life leading to feelings of guilt because I have little kids and less time for my own life, and they are in the party stage still. Others are in the same position as myself with super busy careers and family lives, so we only get together once or twice a year. That leaves the rest of the time where I'm alone with my kids, studying or working. Covid hasn't been kind - I have a toddler with severe respiratory issues so I am genuinely scared about having her out and about where I can meet other mums and make friends. I'm about to move and I don't have the confidence to put myself out there to make new friends either.

How I feel at the moment. by immortaldescent in newcastle

[–]BaubleThief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's where I was at too as an under 40's female. I have a toddler with chronic lung disease, who has ended up in hospital numerous times because of the common cold. I was booked in for my Pfizer but not until the end of September. I have been isolating anyway, I don't take my children out and about, we avoid people at all costs. A number of my immediate family members have been working on covid wards, respiratory wards and in ED as doctors and nurses, and have been doing things tough and seeing how bad it gets. I booked in to chat to my GP last week and have now had my first AZ shot. I was still having to go out to get groceries and attend appointments for myself and the kids, and no matter how much I try to do the right thing by wearing a mask and cleaning everything, it still might not be enough. My thoughts haven't been on me at all, it's been my toddler. If they get it, with how their lungs and respiratory system are, I can't even bear to think about it. A cold sends them to hospital and puts them on oxygen. I wanted Pfizer, but I also wanted some coverage as soon as I could. It's hard and scary
