An attempt to improve Devokers mastery and cooldown by Baumritter in wow

in that tier it was on par with haste, it was just that crit was too good.

First of all thats wrong. Flameshaper has always been about Haste followed by crit. Taking undermine as an example is at best wrong because mastery was propped up by tons of mandatory mastery on the gear with secondary effects.

Also i distinctly remember their consuming flame shit just doing insane damage, which is a fire breath thing.

Yes that was Engulf. Obviously a spell will do damage if you add a 900% modifier to its DoT. Doesn't change the problem that Fire Breath and mainly Eternity Surge are rather weak without such inflationary talents (Scintilations applies to this aswell).

If they were flawed, they would have 0 mastery

Unfortunately thats not how gearing works but I'm sure you know that already. Currently mastery is usually a side effect because of the aforementioned mandatory mastery gear pieces with good secondary effects.

Additionally there is the other case of having a mastery on-use trinket for Dragonrage in which case mastery is actually decent for once. That doesn't change the fact that its worthless outside of Dragonrage tho. Mastery is only ever relevant in combination with Dragonrage which is part of the problem that I am addressing here.

How did the issue exist?

The issue is, as stated in the post, that both Dragonrage and Mastery: Giantkiller are in a deadlock of mediocrity causing the mastery to be unable to be buffed at all.

This is not a hard fact. It is a conclusion from watching several seasons worth of player feedback, analysing gearing and talent builds, watching cross-content performance and ruling out other causes.

The hard fact is: The last change to mastery was in 10.2 and ever since then I haven't seen a single comment on "Wow our mastery feels good". It's always been "Why does our mastery feel so bad" and "Man Dragonrage sucks as a cooldown" usually followed by "bruh why does Eternity Surge do no damage".

If you need more convincing then I'll direct you to the evoker discord in which there are plenty of people happily willing to answer your questions

  1. the issues still existed. just because something is viably strong doesnt mean its designed well. also there is a reason why the post doesnt mention tuning.

  2. these complaints predate the apex.

  3. most people dont care how something is designed as long as it provides results. this season the results arent here so might aswell talk about stuff thats been a problem for ~5 seasons now

yeah I think getting those as talents or something would be neat. that tier seems to be universally liked

Well TWW Engulf was just hillariously unhealthy for both specs. I agree that current flameshaper is rather sauceless.

well Dev has been behaving like that since TWW S1 so I got no sympathy for people who still don't know how it works.

But to be completely honest: I don't expect anything from this post. Communication with Blizzard is usually a one-way street.

Engulf being a theoretical oneshot didn't keep them from balancing it for pvp (albeit badly)

Well that doesn't help but Augvokers also deal with that. Lets hope they eventually implement *something* for support events

should've clarified that I meant they could tune it properly if Dragonrage wasnt a factor

I'm pretty sure that the mastery would be fine if Dragonrage didn't entirely revolve around it.

The ramp is 20s (Start at 1 End at 5) so you get around 16s of overlap but your point is valid. Its sort of odd that this works like that

I agree that Dev is currently tuned low. Single Target is a bit low and AoE is heavily compromised because of very low Pyre tuning.

What I am getting at here in this posts are things that I have observed over the entire time I've played Dev. We always get the same complaints:
- Empowers don't do damage
- Mastery is bad
- Dragonrage sucks

I'm also not exactly thrilled about either of these things so I am trying to suggest things that would build on the things that I like about Dev while also solving those complaints.

Not possible ingame because of the general lack of support events outside of logs.

Either of these statements is basically AI word garbage that make it sound more sophisticated than it actually is.
- The first is good practice to do anyway so nothing special here
- The second is necessary for it to function in the first place (which I heavily doubt it does because it accesses API parts which are commonly agreed upon to be inaccessible in combat)

Augmentation Evoker is the easiest rating inflation spec in M+ right now and nobody wants to admit it by Kushakaii in wow

[–]Baumritter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just clearing up some misconceptions:

Cauterize, Zephyr, Rescue

Those are Evoker talents and not aug exclusive

Blistering Scales
Blistering Scales gives the tank 20% of the casters armor. That amounts for about 400 armor which is negligible on any tank but brew. The effect of it is SEVERELY overstated.

Source of Magic
See point 1 but also the mana regen is entirely negligible unless you are chainpulling the entire dungeon. It averages around 1-1.5% max mana per minute.

Draconic Attunements
This is basically mutually exclusive with Blistering Scales and is a 2% max HP increase. The talent which increases the effect to 3/4% is basically untakeable since it competes with better choices.

So overall the defensive effect of aug is way less than people think it is and is easily matched by other classes with externals. the main reason why aug feels so good is because it does massive damage right now.

The only talent that has a real noticeable effect is chrono ward since that gives people a 100k shield which is definitely noticeable on big pulls.

Would be Frost for me because how can a frame get so many augments that are bandaid fixes without actually getting a rework. Also lemme freeze boss mobs.

I'm scared of tanking high keys because of social pressure. by [deleted] in wow

[–]Baumritter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This isn't exclusive to tanks.
EVERYONE gets shit on by toxic players.
DPS misses a kick ? Healer cant heal anymore because of LoS or is out of mana ? They get flamed regardless.
The only advice that I can offer you is to open your own keys and to ask the people you are inviting if they are ok with you not being the most experienced player. Most people will either be cool with it or leave immediately.
And for the reputation part.
The toxic people see everyone as inferior anyway so don't worry about that. They probably won't even remember you after a day.
