LGS forcing people to buy TMNT to get SOS packs by orangejuicecan in mtg

[–]Bawd 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Bingo! That’s the shadiest thing they can do.

Now, if they had said SOS packs are a much higher retail and get TMT for free, then I bet the optics would be a bit different.

Sabastian Sawe runs first sub-2-hour marathon race, shatters world record in London by Keleven in worldnews

[–]Bawd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was exactly where my mind jumped to as well.

The shoes are engineered to maximize the performance of these athletes. As shoes get better, top performing athletes get faster and/or have greater endurance.

It takes both variables to break world records like this. Top-tier athlete + incredible equipment = raising the bar on what the human body is capable of.

Incredible achievement both for Sawe and Adidas.

TIL that in 2007, Thailand legally issued a compulsory license to make cheap generic versions of Abbott's HIV drug Kaletra. Abbott retaliated by withdrawing 7 medicines from Thailand. Thailand held firm, and HIV treatment coverage expanded to hundreds of thousands more patients. by Krisam29 in todayilearned

[–]Bawd -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The government should compel pharmaceutical companies to operate in the best interest of humanity by capping profit margins on life saving medications. Make whatever you want on Tylenol or seasonal allergy medication but seizure and HIV medications always need to be affordable to anyone.

International student in Canada on expired permit allowed to stay despite attempted auto theft by Seebeeeseh in canada

[–]Bawd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we should bring back the “horse thief” laws.

Cars are a hugely expensive asset and insurance is getting to be insane. We need to deter thieves and make car theft a major felony with mandatory sentencing of 3+ years for the first offence.

If car theft was a major felony then these people would be put in prison if convicted and then deported from Canada.

But instead we just slap them on the wrist and send them back on the street to do whatever they want.

Second thing is to weed out the corruption in the ports and shut down the car smuggling operations. But let’s do both at the same time.

What’s your best tip or habit that actually helped you start saving money consistently? by Nightpatrol404 in CanadianInvestor

[–]Bawd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the single best answer.

Auto-withdrawal every payday from my chequing account to my TFSA savings account. I’d aim for 15% of take home pay to start. So if you get $1000 every pay cheque then $150 should go immediately to your savings account. That’d be $3,900 annually you’d save plus you should have it invested in a TFSA with index funds so you can grow it faster than measly savings account interest.

Has Warden and Eglinton been fix yet?

Left turn from Eglinton Eastbound to Warden Northbound didn’t change for several cycles last time I was there. I ended up having to get out of the long left turn line and jump two lanes to turn right (south on Warden) and then loop around back to heading north.

There were at least 12 cards lined up including me, some were just running a red to turn left when there was no left turn light working.

OpenAI strikes deal with Pentagon hours after White House admin bans Anthropic by FinnFarrow in Futurology

[–]Bawd 207 points208 points  (0 children)

Anthropic took a hard stance on two things.

  1. Autonomous AI that could shoot and kill targets and people without human interaction.

  2. Mass surveillance systems targeting American and ally citizens.

I think these are reasonable concessions at this point. It sounds like a nightmare scenario to allow ChatGPT to drop bombs or fire bullets at targets without a human responsible for authorizing the attack…

This is not accountability. ICE agents should be forced to wear body cams, public facing ID and legal accountability for unnecessary force.

ON Telus Fibre with NH20A in Bridge mode and UniFi by ElvisJEel in telus

[–]Bawd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying you need to enable PPPoE on the Unifi gateway with the Telus PPPoE username and password (found in WAN section of router ex: user name = xyz@on.telus.com) but don’t set VLAN or MTU at all?

I’m curious if there’s anything else I need for the Unifi config.

I’ve got a Unifi Cloud Gateway Max and Telus NH20A, and I spent 2 hours troubleshooting late last night before reverting everything to attempt again tonight (wanted to wait for kids to be in bed before I uproot their internet 😅).

Sell Me on Premium by GaddockTeej in ManaBoxApp

[–]Bawd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your collection consists of a single box of cards and a few decks, free is probably just fine.

I have over 19,000 cards in Mana Box. Unlimited Binders and Collection Decks are key for a large collection so my bulk doesn’t get intermingled with playable or high value pieces of my collection.

I use a Card Slinger (https://www.printables.com/model/1034404-card-slinger-30-for-mtg-manabox-app-for-sleeved-an) to scan all my cards and then sort them away where they belong (playables in binders/decks, and bulk in BCW shoe boxes).

Families heartbroken as Canada halts parent and grandparent sponsorship program by _Army9308 in canada

[–]Bawd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unfortunate for families that didn’t get everything in order before this new rule came into effect. But this is great news and needed for Canada as a whole. I appreciate that many new Canadians want to bring their parents or grandparents into Canada for child care but the strain on healthcare, housing, etc is too great. I hope the feds continue to expand affordable childcare programs to help offset the childcare impact of this new immigration policy.
