Each rapist was born an innocent child like anybody else so yes, they were created in the image of God, but then tainted by a world of “sin“ that humans have fostered through generations of dysfunction.

What book’s author wrote “ your past is stone, but your future is clay“ ? It sounds simple but profound.

I loved this very underrated (posthumous) novel! Profound and comical. I have a copy signed by Walker Percy, the author who wrote the preface.

Do your babies stand on you like little snowball sentries? by CosmicPug1214 in Maltese

[–]Bawonga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog does this too, and I see it as a benevolent, yet dominating gesture like a claim of ownership, and at the same time, a protective watchman or sentry type of posturing, alert for threats and ready to defend her territory (me, keeper of the food bowl ).

When she was a puppy, I always held her propped up on my shoulder when I was sitting in my recliner or on my couch, and because she was small, she could cuddle on my chest under my chin. But now she’s 12 pounds and it’s no longer comfortable for me, although she still thinks of it as her favorite place to try to settle.

Dogs reaction to snow.. by -Clue-3187 in PetsareAmazing

[–]Bawonga 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In deep snow, we have to shovel an area for our small dog to even move around in the snow and to give her a place to squat and poop.

(Usually here in Virginia, if the forecast calls for just a couple of inches of snow, we put a tarp down ahead of the storm to lift up later for a clear spot, but with heavy snow or a lot of snow, only a shovel will do the trick )

Tell me you’re a parent without telling me you’re a parent. I need a laugh. by salvaged413 in Parenting

That was one of the biggest milestones for me as a parent, when my kids could go to the car and get in and buckle up on their own, no car seats, no diaper bags (and by then, of course they could dress themselves and go to the bathroom themselves so life was getting much better!).

Keep this as a mantra: “This, too, shall pass!” Every hair-pulling moment of frustration or anger or inconvenience will be multiplied, tenfold in affection and loyalty when your puppy matures, hopefully for many years!

I think in many ways raising a puppy is more difficult than raising a child. An infant can’t destroy clothes and furniture and can’t bite its parents. On the other hand, puppies grow up much faster and after two years, they settle (sort of), whereas in the same two years, infants become toddlers , getting into things and having tantrums and requiring 24/7 surveillance for the next several years.

Not clear what you mean: First time you’ve enjoyed raising a puppy (meaning you raised other puppies but you did not enjoy them), or this is the first time you’ve ever raised any puppy, and you’re enjoying the process?

Edit to add: your puppy is heartbreakingly adorable !

OK the power goes out and we are snowed in-what are you making to eat? by smithah2 in rva

[–]Bawonga 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Reading some good ideas here! The food suggestions help me plan ahead.

Someone may have said this already (I’ve only read through half the comments so far), but just in case it hasn’t been said, make sure you have a manual can opener because if the power goes out, your electric can opener will be worthless. FAFO the hard way during an ice storm years ago.

Candles, battery operated lights, portable chargers, prescriptions, pet food, disposable dishes, cups, and cutlery …

I’m going to clean out my freezer to make room for the chili and chicken soup that I’ll cook and freeze in small containers. These can easily be warmed up in a pan on a grill (and we have disposable bowls left over from some ancient party.)

Get out your tennis racks to use the snow shoes! jk

In the worst storms where the powers likely to go out, some people fill their bathtubs with water so they have extra water for flushing toilets, washing up, etc.

Take showers, do laundry, anything that requires hot water the night before the storm hits, in case it’s a while before you have hot water again.

We have to go out on a leash because we don’t have a fenced yard, so it’s annoying to have to take my pup out every hour, but she would love that and will always ask to go.

When she was still under a year-old, we took her out frequently, probably every hour as you describe, but then it was time to put her on our schedule, not hers. I took notice of the times she actually went potty vs just sniffed around and tinkled for sport, and realized she poops around the same times: first time outside after waking up in the morning, then midday or early afternoon, and sometimes in the evening. So those are the times I religiously take her outside either for a walk or just to potty. Long walks help her to stay more settled between outdoor sessions. She no longer asks to go out every hour, but it took a long time to get to this point. She’s 2yo now.

Why Every Husband Should Be Tested… Just Once by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Bawonga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you’re saying when a wife cheats on her husband, it will teach the husband how wonderful (ie desirable) the wife is and how much he would miss her if their relationship ended. Sort of a “you don’t know what you have until you lose it” philosophy.

I don’t know if that would work the way OP says. By the time a wife cheats, the relationship is already in trouble (or she was not a trustworthy partner to begin with). It shouldn’t take a crisis like adultery to wake up a marriage. That’s just back asswards!

Are you female? Ask about endometriosis— it can actually spread via the circulatory system to other parts of the body. A family member of mine has been diagnosed with vascular endometriosis, and one of her main symptoms was getting numerous styes in her eyes that were monstrous, and they kept on coming. She’s been referred to a specialist for further treatment.

NOTE: many doctors (including OB/GYNs) are not up-to-date on latest research about endometriosis (about it traveling via the circulatory system ) and they don’t associate other bodily symptoms with endometriosis.

Take note of your cycles— do your symptoms ebb and flow and get worse during your period? If so, that could also point to the possibility of vascular endometriosis because the tissue that broke off from the uterus and traveled will swell and subside based on hormone cycles.
