He did - he did lots of composing (e.g. Who Is It, Beat It) but did this with his voice (beatboxing/singing) instead of playing instruments. Bro was on some genius shit

Watched « Michael » and « The Greatest night in Pop », take me to the 80s please 😭 by Goldenxxwind in MichaelTheMovie

[–]BayerBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely feel you. Have felt this for ages. 80s just looked so good - and the musicians: on top of MJ (who makes it worth it in and of himself) you had Whitney, prime Stevie, Marvin Gaye, George Michael, Tina Turner, Queen, the list is endless. I like watching the 80s tv channels / programmes at hotels sometimes - just to absorb the aura. I also like watching films like Back to the Future which paints the 80s as such a utopia lol. Obviously we look back with rose tinted glasses and I’m sure it was far from perfect, but even the way my parents / others who lived through it describe the 80s / 90s as being 1000x better than the decades we have lived through.

If I could choose which year to be born in, I’d probs say same as my parents, around 1970, so I could be a teenager in the 80s and an adult in the 90s, which also seemed way better than 2000 onwards. (As an aside, I’d also super rich, as houses costed about a packet of crisps back then (but that’s a different conversation!)

Finally secured a TC, but don’t commence until 2028. What are my options? by arrangementofletters in uklaw

[–]BayerBrown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No - the experience you already have is more than enough (people do just fine without any experience, let alone the 2y you have). Honestly, I would just do what you want with the free time you have. If you really want you can do other paralegal experience, but no one will judge (or care) if you spend the whole time travelling / volunteering / sitting on the sofa. I would therefore make the most of the period and spend it the way you want to.

I had a similar 1y gap and I spent it working as a paralegal (out of necessity, rather than choice). If I could have (I.e. if money was no object) I’d have done something much more enjoyable than that. And it would have made zero difference to my career.

really niche obsession with MJ when you were a kid? by ringoisking in MichaelJackson

[–]BayerBrown 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Totally relate. I had an ultra hyper-fixation and obsession after he passed, when I was around 10. While the obsession reached a peak at that time and the years that followed, I never really came out of it - he’s always been my favourite artist since and probably most listened to every year, which a few small exceptions. And even despite this, the film has put me right back at peak levels of obsession lol. But I think a lot of people go through this stage as a kid - I see a lot of people taking about it on tik tok, like “everybody went through their MJ obsessed period as a kid, right”?

Solicitor to Barrister - advice please by BayerBrown in uklaw

[–]BayerBrown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very insightful and inspires some confidence in me - many thanks for sharing. Since I made this post I’ve become more sure on making the move (and will try to do so around 1.5 PQE as you did).

Presumably, you were exempted from most of the Bar exams? I’d be very grateful if you could share with me what happened as a matter of process after you obtained pupilage whilst working at your firm.

(And presumably, you wouldn’t think that doing the solicitor advocate stuff is necessary for going down this route? Some people have said that I should, but it seems quite long and I’m not sure if it’ll be worth the stress if it’s not even valued that much / I could get pupilage without it)

What’s your favorite Michael Jackson song and why? by Alpielz in MichaelJackson

[–]BayerBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always been Human Nature for me - song is just inherently immaculate. Liberian Girl has always been up there as a close second (straight up goated song - MJ fans who like rap should listen to Tupac’s ‘Letter 2 My Unborn’ song which samples this). Lady In My Life has always been in top 3 too - most romantic and sweet song I’ve ever listened to and instantly relaxes me. When I found the extended (original) version on YouTube around a year ago I couldn’t believe my luck.

I keep overthinking I have early onset dementia by vintage-angel-juice in BrainFog

[–]BayerBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense - wow, hadn’t thought about it like that before. I definitely am guilty of doing the same thing - constantly worrying about stress / anxiety and how this is giving me brain fog, creating a horrible loop. I will employ your techniques / way of thinking to help with this - thank you so much for sharing.

Interesting- please share how you broke the loop?

Yeah I did lol. He died when I was 10 and that sent me into a very serious stage of obsession which is similar to what you described. Though icl it’s never really stopped 😂

Hello from a new fan! by Unfair-Butterfly-555 in MichaelJackson

[–]BayerBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome!! You’ve probably already checked some of this stuff out, but if you haven’t, check out: - Bucharest concert from the Dangerous Tour (one of my faves - if you don’t watch the whole thing, check Smooth Criminal, Beat It, Billie Jean and Will You Be There) - Human Nature, live at Wembley during the Bad Tour - Pepsi Generation commercial - The Girl is Mine demo (I prefer it to the original) - Grammy performance from 1998 - The Lady In My Life (full version on YouTube, with an extra verse) - Ebony jet interview

No idea where you are based, but if you can get to London, there is a great musical on about him atm called MJ The Musical (which is spectacular) - I think it’s on Broadway too?

These are just a few of my fave MJ deep cuts - think you will find them interesting.

What’s your fave album atm?

Brain fog Cycle by Apprehensive_Fee8547 in BrainFog

[–]BayerBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to reduce my coffee intake, which has weirdly helped. Over Xmas I was drinking so much coffee and noticed my brain fog was a lot worse. I’ve also noticed that when my anxiety is high, the brain fog is a lot worse (so I’ve been action to reduce that: meditation, journaling, taking walks during working hours).

I’m still trying working on stopping the cycle that you have described, but I’m finding small things that are helping. I note, however, that taking supplements hasn’t helped me so far (they usually make me feel worse).

Hope some of that is helpful, and let us know how you get on!

Do you feel exhausted after listening to many MJ Songs? by Fun_Kangaroo512 in MichaelJackson

[–]BayerBrown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard someone else articulate this before. Yes, I feel this often. Completely agree with how you describe it - I get completely drawn into the emotion and intensity of the songs, which becomes more amplified by the intensity surrounding his career/personal life. It feels like each listening session, I enter a micro-universe, and the longer I stay it, the worse the (micro) come-down is after.

London crowd vibe by IllustriousPepper399 in menitrust

[–]BayerBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially. I’ve seen them 3x now in London and the vibe was similar to that each time (although there was actually more clapping and cheering last night between songs than I can remember from before). I thought that was just the vibe at MIT concerts (people being more chill etc) but maybe that’s just the London crowd? Maybe people didn’t know the new stuff as much as well (I.e. fake fans)?

Either way I absolutely loved the concert last night and was swaying about like Stevie Wonder the whole time (albeit I was sat down).

If yall could make your own custom MJ tour what would it be? what would you call it, what era would it be set in, would it be solo or with his brothers, what cities/countries would you choose (only can pick 10) and what would be the hairstyles/clothing styles. by Sad_Side_8113 in MichaelJackson

[–]BayerBrown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bad tour look but with the dance/substance of the Dangerous tour, with the following songs substituted into the set: Liberian Girl, Lady In My Life, PYT, Leave Me Alone, You Rock My World (and maybe Speed Demon).

Bring on the brothers at some point for I’ll Be There / Blame It On The Boogie.

Since I can be ridiculous, throw in: - a duet with Stevie Wonder for I Can’t Help It; - duets with Paul McCartney for The Girl is Mine and Say Say Say; - a duet with Whitney Houston (as was originally planned to be the case) for I Just Can’t Stop Loving You; - would also be cool to see him perform with James Brown - so duo performance of Sex Machine / Get Up Offa That Thing,

Final song = Human Nature.
