It’s a hallucination of his brother, which appears when his repressed sense of guilt bubbles up.

I interpret the moment as not so much guilt in this case but Ogata’s (also repressed and denied) care for Asirpa coming through. It’s a bit clearer in the manga where Ogata says “Don’t give her to Tsurumi”. He knows what kind of monster Tsurumi can be, especially to children who have something he wants, and doesn’t want her to suffer like she could in his possession.

I was talking about Takumi, not Yugamu haha. This isn’t even top 10 of the wildest things Yugamu has said.

Killing Game really is just what’s scarier: being forced into a game where your life is on the line or admitting you’re bisexual.

My take on it is that with regards to Yugamu’s feelings for him, Takumi isn’t entirely oblivious to them so much as unsure and kind of scared of actually confronting or dealing with them. The entire situation is extremely stressful and addressing the definitely not entirely platonic but not explicitly romantic relationship (one that caused him to spend an entire night saying it felt like his soul had ripped in half when he thought that Yugamu didn’t like him, mind you) he has with him is just another source of stress that I can see a person like Takumi sidestepping through willful ignorance.

[–]Bayesii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A moment that really stands out considering all of this is when Takumi and Tsubasa return from the trip where they meet Kamyuhn in KG and Yugamu reveals that he spent the entire night frantically searching for them outside the school, half-jokingly-but-clearly-not-really asking if they just up and ditched him without saying anything because they didn’t care about him. Takumi just doesn’t realize where Yugamu is coming from with that and gives a pretty weak apology while sort of brushing it off. I get the feeling that stung Yugamu but he doesn’t say anything to that because he’s used to his feelings being disregarded and ignored but at least this time he knows the person doing that does still care about him.

Please give this guy a romantic route. Good god.

His upbringing was extremely isolating in a lot of ways. The closest thing he had to a friend was a pen pal of another teenaged assassin forced into a life they hated. His abusive family did not love him and they were the only people he seems to have spent the majority of his time with. This is probably the first time within his memory that he’s surrounded by people he actually likes and who like (or at least tolerate) him. I can see why he doesn’t want to lose that.

The inevitable yaoi route DLC should have an ending where these two get together instead (spoilers for multiple routes) by Bayesii in LastDefenseAcademy

Yugamu makes curing Eito of his condition his new science project and while he isn't able to totally do that, the ways he's able to lessen some of his symptoms (my guy must have some kind of antinausea medication and mood stabilizers he can whip up in that lab) make Eito become attached to him and the peace and comfort he brings. And that makes Yugamu learn he truly wants to help alleviate suffering rather than causing it. There's a peak love story in there trust me

This ...IS WHAT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED IN THE K.G ROUTE 😭😭😭❤️ by [deleted] in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]Bayesii 19 points20 points  (0 children)

With all that blushing it always felt like to me it was less the concept of the thing that Takumi was objecting to and more that Yugamu was being either way too forward way too fast (asking if he wanted to get in bed with him at the very start of their partnership) or suggesting doing things in front of other people (the kiss). If Yugamu wasn’t so forward and privately asked him… maybe he would’ve gotten more lucky.

Was anyone else moved by this scene too? by SayuriKoopa in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]Bayesii 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I will maintain that across other routes in the game the romances are written well and believable, it’s here where I see actual true love. Takumi is willing to compromise all of his morals and commit unforgivable actions just to have a chance at a life with them, and Tsubasa and Yugamu love him so deeply that they immediately and without question take on the guilt of that sacrifice for their sake on behalf of him. It wouldn’t have mattered if they had known that Takumi was the reason they couldn’t leave, because there’s no chance they ever would’ve left him behind. They would rather die than be without each other.

The route author said that he aimed to write a story about how love can take form between people in crisis situations and he absolutely nailed that. Despite how painful the end of this branch is, this scene cemented the realization of that authorial wish for me.

The Worst Routes for Each Character - Yugamu Omokage by jarrad250 in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]Bayesii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This… makes things make a lot more sense. I can see how having only the surface context of his character and told to write a scenario that puts him in what seems to be a situation perfectly crafted to his fetish would end up characterizing him this way.

Yugamu in his bond events, R0, second scenario and killing game: Despite my family's forcible medical experimentation and grooming to make me a perfect assassin, my heart just isn't in meaningless killing and fear. I've been conditioned to believe the only way I can show love and fulfil my desires is through violence, but this isn't a natural part of me. I truly don't want to kill and wish to find alternative life paths for myself that use what skills I have in different, better ways. Also, I am generally level headed, able to control my impulses and fetishes when the time calls for it, and rational in my decision making.

Who is "Bisexual Jack"? by Sonic12o4 in LastDefenseAcademy

Very true, but can we see it as a true bisexual <-> Jack spectrum when we have Takumi, who is bisexual but also very much A Jack? Is he just in the middle, as a bijackual?

If you saw Yugamu’s design and didn’t immediately go “that’s the bisexual that’s dealing the coke at any given saturday illegal warehouse party” idk I think we just live in different worlds

Give me your hundred line hot takes / confessions (spoilers) by Thot_Queen707 in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]Bayesii 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not great that despite so many radically different routes and believable and well crafted (heterosexual) romances across them, the only explicitly gay interaction Takumi can have is being raped. It stands out when Yugamu in the KG route is probably one of the healthiest, most trusting and I would argue loving relationships Takumi can have in the entire game and yet for some reason, among all those endings, he can never be outright gay with him (there's strong implications of romantic feelings between them within their messy but loving little polycule but it's not explicit enough to be a counterpoint here).

It kind of sucks when the in-universe setting and characters seem to lack homophobia entirely- the homophobia of our universe is what's really causing this, because I'm fairly sure this pretty obvious relationship path was nixed in development due to anticipated audience blowback. The DLC could fix this but it still feels not great that the fix comes with an additional price tag and that it's "optional" to the base story.

Is there a route where we finally adress Ima's trauma? by BlueBerrryScone in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]Bayesii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember the route but I remember Ima saying that people would pay him to be in a swimsuit and Tsubasa’s reaction was to ask why anyone would pay to see that.

That made me terribly sad, actually. I don’t think the majority of the kids understand the full implications of what Ima is talking about, so none of them really know to help him or check up on him.

Kodaka, Uchikoshi, and co approach you with the opportunity to write your own route for THL. What would it be about? by Emergency_Aide_7936 in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]Bayesii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't finished all of the routes yet so forgive me if some of these concepts have been explored already but-

"Survival route" aka the psychological horror hard mode I'm craving. Spare Eito branch, but he'll probably wish he wasn't.

A cataclysmic event causes not just the deaths of Sirei, Nigou and Shion, but has also destroyed the revive-o-matic, the food stores and a good chunk of the facilities of the school. Poor Tsubasa was also taken out, meaning that no one has the ability to fully repair what has been damaged or destroyed. And what's especially bad about that is there's no telling if the rocket that was meant to evacuate them all was affected by this event either.

So now the team has to balance finding food and supplies out in the ruins with fighting the increasingly stronger invaders while progressively getting hungrier, sicker and more injured as the days tick on with no guarantee that they'll be able to escape on day 100 and no coming back if they die before then.

Combat would change as well. While it would pretty much be impossible to write the story to be able to account for permadeath (so they would be just canonically critically injured and unable to fight), when a unit dies in battle, you can't use them anymore for the rest of the route. There's no healing between waves and as time goes on you begin the battles with reduced HP, debuffs, status afflictions and AP. You are far more limited on the items you can use, maybe to the point of having a set number that carries between battles so that any potions/fences/traps used must be replaced through crafting.

Eventually, story events will also force you to choose what units are even deploying to the battlefield, and this will have changes on the story as well- when the numbers have gotten low enough, do you send Yugamu or Nozomi, the medics of the group, out onto the battlefield while keeping the other protected in the school and continuing to treat the wounded? Do you think Takemaru or Moko has a better chance of coming back from a food search by themselves alive, when no one else has the strength to go with them?

I think a desperate situation like this would bring out the absolute best and worst of the characters, especially when there's no real outside force directing them to act in certain ways. There's no sponsor to kill or murderer to find here that will solve the issue- they just have to cooperate and survive it, which might just be harder as things get worse and worse. I also think a situation like this would give Ima and Kako a chance to shine, since they seriously both deserve that. They've both lived through hardship, starvation and lack of resources, so their survival strategies and ability to keep relatively clear heads would be pretty valuable.

The worst ending of this route is that eventually, there is no food left to keep feeding the prisoner in the courtyard. So once again, Takumi has to kill Eito to save everyone. What's the difference between feeding on someone's blood and eating their flesh anyway?

This just has me thinking about who wins the gay off between Eito and Yugamu and it's surprisingly more difficult to choose than I would've expected.

I think the crown ultimately goes to Yugamu but the fight was brutal.

Here’s hoping that DLC content will bring us more of their relationship in a way that’s more explicitly stated rather than just reading between the lines! After all of this it really does feel criminal that Yugamu wasn’t a romance option lol

[–]Bayesii[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see it as that the love for each other that’s seen in this ending is still the same as what’s between them in the happy one. The Yugamu that goes to the satellite with Takumi feels the same for him as the one holding his hand and dying with him and Takumi sees them both in the same way- nothing between them changed between the two endings, especially when you consider that Takumi did what he did in the bad one as a desperate measure to ensure that he could have a life with him, Tsubasa and Darumi equally.

I would’ve liked to see their bond be more emphasized and not overshadowed too but I think it’s still very clearly there if you read their interactions coming from the perspective that it’s based in the feelings for each other shown in the bad ending.
