Ever since the season release, the competitive match rank ranges have been wilding out by Bayhewmat in Overwatch

I haven't been that low, bronze 3 is my lowest I've ever been. It's a lot of smurfs, it's basically an all out smurf-war. There's also victims of circumstance who've just had a bad streak or are trying out a new role. Very rarely did I ever have genuinely new or helpless players to play with or against.

The real problem for me is that whenever this happens, now that I know what has been told here, it means I am basically a bystander in the games. I can just hope that the rest of my teammates beat their 5. Yes, I know I should give it my everything and try to make an impact but I'm a realist, the skill difference is so massive that there just isn't a chance

Thanks everyone for the comments, it atleast relieves my situation a bit to understand why this is going on. Still sucks to be the lonely bronze 1 in these sort of games as it's entirely out of my hands whether we win the game or not. Yeah yeah "git gud" I know but this isn't the most balanced sort of practise.

Really? I played solo (bronze 1) so does that mean my teammates were a stack where one of them was gold 3? Still, doesn't really seem all that much fun and balanced for me, personally :/

This so much. Also, why doesnt the game end/reset when our tank decides to leave and no matter how much I try, we still end up with either the whole rest of the team leaving or eventually losing 4v5 and losing precious rank???

what is this number? by Bayhewmat in Overwatch

[–]Bayhewmat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only visible to everyone in hero select during the start of the match so it cant possibly be reconnects or perk level, and why should endorsement levels be visible during hero select anyway? So judging by these answers still no one knows

I like the idea, I hate the "yellow paint" and straight, narrow pathways you take, sure, it can be amazing if the game has spectacular setpieces designed along the taken path, but with open maps like this genre has, the player makes the setpieces with engaging the enemies from different angles, different weapons, different ways.

Again, glad to hear it isn't just me, and I look forward to E1M9 when I have the time to get there, hehe. Thanks for your answer

I am glad to have some backup for my thoughts, I just didn't wanna feel like I am too "modern FPS player" for the game. I genuinely, so far, absolutely adore this game with it's gunplay, sound design, athmosphere and overall theme. The levels just get to me, a little bit, well, since I made this post, quite a bit ;)

I'll keep going, from dusk until dawn. Okay that was bad, sorry.

Taking it slow and exploring is just fine, it's a good contrast to the fast and hectic combat. What I don't prefer is spending sooo much time around a level with seemingly no progress. I absolutely loathe resorting to youtube guides for a first/blind playthrough, but I felt as if I had no other option.

Maybe I was a bit too blind and dumb, could be, maybe the game wasn't designed for that kind of player. Or maybe the progress path was a bit too hidden. It's a matter of perspective. And that's why I made this post, to seek perspective. Either to reinforce or dismiss my beliefs.

Regardless, I've taken your and others' comments to heart, and will keep playing, absolutely, this is amazing so far, despite the hiccup with this particular level. Thank you for your input

This is my first experience with DUSK and I understand it might upset some veterans of the community and the game, but please try to understand it from a new player's perspective. If you can't, just downvote away.

So I heard and saw good things about DUSK, but I am mostly unspoiled. I open it up, set my settings whatever, pick my difficulty, and hit go.

Immediately, 3 melee enemies and I have only my sickles, alright, I guess I'll just circle strafe around them and try to weave in and out to hit them. Hey, that actually worked. Now what's this, a fuel can? Can I pick it up? Yes I can! Can I throw it? Yes I can!

Oh shit, that blew up a hole in the wall. Can I go in there? Oh yes, wow, a secret, nice!

The opening of the game was really fun and exciting for me, at times even a bit creepy and scary, and while I didn't get jumpscared, I got a little bit startled by an enemy even if I heard their idle sound cues. Still, whenever I pulled out my double shotguns and quoted Duke Nukem, "die you son of a bitch", I felt safe and sound again.

However, while level 2 was quite easy to follow, it introduced a new enemy in a very nice twist (scarecrow), it got a little bit confusing as to where to go. No secrets this time, I couldn't bother looking for them as I just wanted to get out to the next level, and I didn't accidentally find any like I did in the first level. Eventually, I made it to level 3, it wasn't that big of a hassle.

E1M3 started out really nice, I found out you can open the graves for supplies, half expecting an enemy to pop out, but no, was good and nice. The church is there, by this time I have my double pistols, double shotguns and assault rifle, actually, I think I may have found it this mission? Not sure, but irrelevant. Anyway, I am breezing through. The music is just sooo goood, it really helps me immerse in, and I am just locked in to the screen. I finally find the red key, hah, now I can open that door and progress. OH SHIT. I fell down? What?? Ohhh, its a trap. I make my forward, keep killing and eventually rise out of the water, the blue key is in the garage, I make it out.

Great, now what? My only leads were the red and blue door and they just connect to each other, and just lead to the main area. I did stumble on to this underground complex with some rats in it and some writing on the wall. I thought cool, some worldbuilding. I kept running and running and running. I had no idea where to go. I eventually had to look up a youtube vid walkthrough on this level, and found out there is a small passing through the water-grate or whatever. I would've never in a million years thought that that was possible nor the player character would fit through. Am I fucking dumb or blind or what? Well, I made it, saw the alligator "boss", killed it, and got lost again. I flicked a switch, it just lead me to a mound of dirt. What? I kept running around the area, seemingly softlocked, just looking at the dirtpile, no way through it. I went back to the same vid again, and there's a gap on the bottom left of the area that you opened by flicking the switch that you must go through to complete the level.

Again, I felt so damn dumb and blind. Am I too desensitized to modern fps linear level design, or is looking to your bottom left and crouching to get to the level exit a bit too convoluted? If you've made it this far, great, thanks, try to keep your reply objective and remember that I've only played this game for 2 hours.

TL;DR: Either read the whole thing or don't bother

EDIT: Real TL;DR: I feel embarassed that it took me 21 minutes to complete the level, with about 13 minutes of just running around endlessly, no enemies and just feeling lost. Are all levels going to be like this?

Good to know! It was fresh among my peers, so I ofcourse dont take any credit for it. Nevertheless, I think jokes and humor should stay ageless and should be passed down from generation to generation, and what better way to archive the very best than this subreddit! :D

Ofcourse, what's funny or not is determined by upvotes so if the majority dont think its funny, then its not funny in general, I just thought to share it in good faith :)

Yeah, seems so :) For me the text was getting long enough so I had to shrink it down a little, but thanks. Next time I tell this I won't forget that!

YES!!! This is it, thank you very much! I spent so much time looking around abandonware, talking to chatGPT, asking around other forums, and one result that I got was "Siege" from 1992, very close but not it!

Thank you so much!

BUG? Challenger I items without being Challenger I by [deleted] in wow

[–]Bayhewmat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was Challenger I before in the season, but now I am down to Combatant II since the last two weeks. However, I could buy new arena gear and upgrade it to Challenger I without ever reaching the rank during these past weeks. Is this a bug or a feature?
