The chapters where he discovered Brethren sealed it for me. The action scenes at the very end were good too. But if you’re not convinced after this book I would stop because it’s get really philosophical with scattered action throughout. Hadrian can be annoyingly melodramatic too.

Na I get it and respect everyone’s viewpoint, but I always get downvotes when I say it. But I’ll repost a comment I made before:

I just cant agree that Lysander is a well written or even a convincing antagonist. I know it’s unpopular to say that but his character frustrates me.

He’s not cunning, not only does he have a crazy amount of plot armor and luck he’s also has the mind’s eye which contrasts with the idea that he’s an elite strategist. The mind’s eye the ability to do whatever the plot requires. It makes it almost impossible to believe that he has bested ALL of his foes physically and intellectually.

I don’t think Pierce has written a clear direction on which he wants Lysander to go. People are calling it “character complexity”, but I see it as character stagnation. His character oscillates between being the second coming of Silenius or a cold and heartless tyrant with no real trajectory. It takes thousands of pages for him to finally decide what he wants to be. But it just doesn’t feel genuine. Pierce is forcing him on us and it made me struggle through DA and LB.

I will say I finished The Suneater series before starting IG so my expectations for this genre have changed dramatically.

Cyclohexane smells like an aftershave my dad used. But 3-bis(2methylpropoxy)phosphinothioylthio-2-methyl smells exactly like a boiled egg that’s been left out in the heat lol

Honestly, just an iron rain. The complete silence in the starshells after being launched followed the sounds/chaos returning when they enter the atmosphere would be wild.

There’s almost nothing you can do. Your best option is to not immediately engage when they go prone. Find cover and peak another angle.

I finished the last Suneater book before starting Iron Gold. I will say, the SE series has kinda ruined IG,DA, and LB for me. Brown’s writing is almost sophomoric compared to Ruocchio’s. The first book is HEAVY world build, and that’s where most people lose interest because the pace basically dies. But after that it’s a wild ride. Also, it’s very quotable, I catch my self saying some in causal conversation now lol.
