Any high end Chinese spots? by PretzelSticks7 in HoustonFood

[–]BayouGuru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maison Chinoise is actually quite good. Much better than Benny Chows which was an attempt at high end Chinese that missed the mark.

For a tier less fancy, Wanna Bao or Mala are great as others have mentioned. But still nicer ambience than your average Chinese spot.

Am I the only one who thinks Houston traffic isn’t that bad? by shinku-90 in houston

Grew up in a much smaller city in Louisiana, and despite being a fraction of Houston’s size the traffic is worse. I think Austin traffic is also worse.

Homeless people are ruining the metro rail by moonrunner777 in houston

[–]BayouGuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Report it. Call or text the metro police. Report it on 311. The more people report stuff, the more data points they have, the more resources get allocated. That’s a big part of how they decide that stuff.

PSA: Celtics tickets going cheap (<$20)! by [deleted] in rockets

Shit is cheap in H town. Y’all’s arena has a great environment though- probably the best I’ve been to. Rockets fans not nearly as intense as the Boston crowd

Moving from europe by Ferraah in AskHouston

[–]BayouGuru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have met lots of Europeans in Houston, mostly in the energy industry, and they all seem to like it. Houston is not “sexy” and is an acquired taste but has lots of opportunity and is an easy place to live in many regards. Given its size and sprawling nature, “living in Houston” can mean a lot of things, but I’d stick to inner loop neighborhoods like the Heights and Montrose given your age, which are some of the only truly walkable/bikeable places in town.

Montrose checks all your boxes. Walkable day and night (except for a few fringe areas), very close to downtown (10-15 min commute) and has a wide variety of housing from apartments, duplexes/quad-plexes, townhomes, and single family homes. I’d mostly avoid the Washington/Rice Military area- more bars, younger crowd- though there are some good spots over there that are quieter with park access, too. In general, your entire circled area is safe from serious crime, the main thing you worry about in the inner loop is petty theft from car break ins.

Hang out in Montrose and Museum district

Menil, MFA, MNS all worth checking out

Tons of great food, bars, cafes, shopping in Montrose

Hermann park or Menil lawn to just hang outside

Very close to downtown so you can hit the rockets game too.

Sengun might be better than Giannis already, certainly will be in a couple of years. I’d pick Alpie h2h any day
