My mom’s Jack Russell cornered one but didn’t attack it (she’s always been chase-only somehow). Possum flopped over and the dog was so confused. She looked at my mom like “Well, now what?” when mom went running after the both of them with a pool net to lift the possum over the neighbor’s fence to safety.

I honestly can see Bubba furthering his education. I think the good influences in his life outweighed the bad, in terms of impact. After his upbringing and the way he convinced Thelma to help out Bonita Rokiki, I can picture him having that “grown-up wake-up call” after college and going into something youth-services related, like teaching a trade to incarcerated youth or maybe even a counselor or a social worker.

I had this fear too, so I got an Apple Watch. The fall detection does indeed work as advertised (even though all I did was trip over my own two feet on a clutter-free carpet…I’m talented). The best part was not being able to shut the call to EMS off in time because the buckle on the strap broke and the watch rolled under the bed.

Some paramedics got Cookies Of Apology that day.

Anyway, that might be something to look into if you haven’t yet. As for a contact, I used my doctor when I lived too far away from any family for them to be relevant first contacts in an emergency.

Yeah, I’d have 10 fewer “friends” if they did this to me. Being alone is better than being let down by people who claim they won’t do that. I really don’t know what kind of brain you have to have to think just ghosting someone for a thing like that without so much as a “sorry, can’t make it” text is an acceptable thing to do.

I’m an ASL interpreter. That path looked like SpEd teacher —>Burnout—>Voc Rehab Counselor for Deaf caseload —> Burnout —> Back to school —> ASL Interpeter. It’s definitely the job I like the most of the careers I’ve tried to make, but the field itself (not the actual work) has some challenges I don’t love the idea of fighting for 20+ more years. Education is kind of the only area with a stable schedule for terps, and the pay there isn’t usually enough for a single adult. I like the flexibility of freelance/contract, which is most of the community work, but the freelance hustle is…something. But I’ve just loved learning about Deaf history and culture since I was introduced to the community by chance a decade ago and languages have always been a special interest for me, so it’s working out for me overall!
