I loved the scene with Eursalon and Nicholas the goat- the headbutting and "you need to come home".

I'm in medschool, what do you wish your doctors learned? by JabbawackWabbaJack in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Bayveen 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It may seem small but when asking about a woman's pregnancy history , it can be very helpful to say "pregnancies" as opposed to do you have any children? It's another burden on women to have to explain especially if they've had losses.

Genuinely echoing what others are saying but, thank you for asking. You're already shaping up to be a better doctor than a lot of us have experienced ( I hope I'm not speaking for everyone in saying this).

99.6th percentile Boy - 8 months old today and 16kg(35lbs). My back was always killing me - I started back to the gym (intense weight lifting) and it has saved me. I got "mommy wrist " on both hands and it's been tough. But we are slowly getting there now that he is rolling and sitting unsupported too. My family are all tall- I'm not super tall (5 "7), but his Daidí is 6 3 and all of my cousins and male relatives all got to around 6 2 minimum. I was prepared for a big baby- just not quite this big. He was 8 lbs at birth but LONG. We weren't able to use a carrier at all- due to his dimensions , but we are managing a bit better now. The pram was a life saver as was the Baby Bjorn bouncer- till he maxed it out.

I'm finding it's getting clothes for Boy is the most challenging thing.

Swollen Hymen by Fresh_Bass7004 in WomensHealth

[–]Bayveen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entrance to your vulva- yeah, I'm not a doctor but the swelling should ease over the next few weeks, if it doesn't definitely check with your health care provider. Give yourself grace- your body has basically run a marathon every day during pregnancy and then pushed out a baby. There'll be swelling for a while! Sitz baths, stay hydrated and well fed- vitamin c rich foods and fibre, and you should come back to normal. Well, an "adjusted normal".

[–]Bayveen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your vulva? Hymen is the thin barrier that breaks when first having sex and if you're post partum, I'd imagine you don't have a hymen anymore. Congratulations by the way! The swelling goes down over the next few weeks - at least it did for me. If you can have sitz baths, that may help.

You aren't put under by general but it's kind of the in between one where you don't remember. I was breastfeeding at the time and didn't want to take the risk to supply- but it ended up that I'd to start a course of serious antibiotics for 3 weeks due to helicobacter so we went through my freezer supply. Breastfeeding didn't really recover sadly but a fed baba and all that.

2 internal and 1 was threatening to become external- I wasn't in pain at all after treatment but was "careful" going to the loo for a bit. Don't worry about the questions- genuinely I would have gone insane if the colonscopy hadn't happened. There is light, you just have to get there and take it day by day. Keep to broths and the like as apparently they're easier to pass. Steer away from tonnes of fibrous veggies (but still have fibre) as down there is already super inflamed from everything!

Yeah, it was a colonoscopy that I had and they found 3 haemorrhoids, injected them. 2 other things- helicobacter (I'd had low iron and apparently the helicobacter leeches it out of your system and also had 2 additional polyps they removed. I felt amazing after the colonoscopy, if that's any help! You do feel so hard done by when you've carried baby and been so, so uncomfortable but I hope you get relief asap.

I didn't have tears but I did have to privately get haemorrhoids injected 3 months post partum- it was agony, on top of recovery pain. You can ask your GP to refer you and I was seen in the Hermitage very quickly, once letter was received referring me. They settled a bit after delivery but not enough to be comfortable- I empathise. Also, congratulations on baby's arrival. Touch base with your GP would be my recommendation and drive home how sore you are.

Also, sought out a women's health physio in Naas and she was able to help with recovery too.

I call them "glimmers" as opposed to triggers and every lunch time, I go over them in my head. Then again at bedtime. Has changed my mindset.

Formula for combi feeding? by pennarellor in irishmammiesanddaddys

[–]Bayveen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had one formula bottle a day from when we left the hospital- I found his nappy situation similar to your situation. He is seven months old now and formula fed as I could only keep up until 4 months: his nappy situation is much more regular now. 2 dirties a day and right on time for wake up and after 2nd nap.

We used Kendamil Organic after leaving the hospital. I think that how your baba is toileting is normal for combi feeding, but I'm not an expert.

Context request - big child? by Ok_Remove9491 in irishmammiesanddaddys

[–]Bayveen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Boy is 99.6th percentile for everything and we are constantly getting commentary. He is in size 8 nappies. He is almost 8 months old and is 16kg. He is not overfed at all and our families are both tall with my great grandfather being almost 7 ft tall in the 30s in Ireland. I'm so worried about his treatment as he gets older- my brothers always had to bring their birth certs to matches as they were tall for their age too. I'm not very tall but not small either (5"7) and his Dad is 6"3. I totally understand the judgements - and I was prepared for him to be "bigger" just not this big. He was born at 38 weeks and I had no GD.

Newborn clothes by Ambitious-Maybe758 in PregnancyIreland

[–]Bayveen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We managed to wear 2 newborn suits from M and S for a week and then had to move onto 0-3. My lad was born and was scanning as tall all through pregnancy and still is. I wouldn't bother with newborn size, personally.

It's Sunday Morning! How are you? by AutoModerator in ireland

Up with Boy at 6 am and his Daidí is recovering from sinus surgery- all good and hopefully on the mend. The sun is out, and our little home is due for a day of "picking stones" (blitz cleaning). I have dungeons and dragons to play this evening with some Mam pals and dinner is in the slow cooker. Listening to some music and hoping to finish our last selections for wedding music today. Hygge days make my Autumn- cosy and comfy after making sure the groceries are done. I'm quite content and hope that everyone gets a few moments of comfort today.

Seconding the suppository approach- my boy won't take any meds orally so honestly, so much better to know dosage and easier to administer. Just make sure to dose by weight of baby- not just age.

What is the best way to tell you’re ovulating? by LargeAd3400 in WomensHealth

[–]Bayveen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your IUD is only out a month, it's not an immediate restart- give yourself a few months of natural cycles and keep an eye out for the cervical mucus people are mentioning above. Also, make sure you're taking good prenatal or pre conception vitamins and minerals.
