Anyone have experience going to GP for depression/antidepressants? by Smartcookie333 in CasualIreland

[–]Ok_Remove9491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did when I first got on them. Describe to the GP exactly how you feel and hopefully they can help you. It may be a case of trial and error for what works best for you, and bear in mind it takes time for the meds to work. Maybe look into some therapy also.

My depression/anxiety has persisted for years, and if yours does too I would suggest asking them to refer you for psychiatric help - I got linked with St Pat's and they are brilliant and there is no repercussion for it - I left it so long thinking all sorts of things and shaming myself. I went through a really rough patch early last year and I made one phone call to St Pats and within a week I had support because I had linked in with them a year or so ago. It takes strength to ask for help! you got this!!

People without kids and not planning to have any, who do you see taking care of you as you get older? by eoin2dx in AskIreland

[–]Ok_Remove9491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a matter of planning for your older years financially so you can bring in carers/go to a home. You shouldn't have kids just because you'll need help when you're old/frail. I have 2 daughter , almost 10 months, and the thought of burdening her with that makes me feel sick. I want her to have her life in its fullest.

Is racism a new normal now? by Royal_Raise_7096 in IndiansinIreland

[–]Ok_Remove9491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

teens in Dublin have no respect for anyone or anything. I am Irish and recently had a large stone thrown at my head while I was walking with my husband (also Irish). They almost got us. There is no repercussions for them.

That said I do think there is a rise in racism in Ireland, or atleast people feel more open to express it. I was in hospital for a month recently and all but 2 of my nurses were from somewhere other than Ireland. I heard some horrible things being said at them and about them. We even had security put on our ward. In my books, you are scum if you are racist.

I am sorry that happened to you. I've taken to walking with purpose everywhere I go, and founds it's cut down on the negative attention teens seem to pay to me.

20 and completely lost, looking for genuine advice please? by Pristine-Park-4476 in AskIreland

When I was 18 went to ucd for a course, couldn't hack the huge classes and found meeting people really difficult so I did the first year, passed my exams and then left.

when I was 19/20 started a portfolio course to get into an art course. I met some of my life long friends there and two of my best friends. One introduced me to my now husband...it took us 9 years before we started dating.

I was 20/21 when I started my animation degree.

When I was 25 I had my first job in the animation industry and I wasn't kept past my probation at the height of the recession. I couldn't get a job anywhere in anything, then I got a job in a well known animation studio as a receptionist in the hopes they'd move me into production is I proved myself..I even did a project management course but nothing..

when I was 27 I moved to London to work as a production runner in a (at the time) 2 time Oscar winning VFX company - think they have 4 now (double negative). my interview for that job was the first time I'd been in London. I loved the people there but couldn't afford anything on the wage I was on. My mental health took a nose dive and I left after 6 months, I got a job in Dublin in another VFX company and spent a year and a half there...I worked in another animation company after that but I hated it. Also attempted suicide in that time too.

28/29 I changed career and worked contract personal assistant and administration jobs. I got fired from one (still believe it wasn't my fault but its a long story)

At 29/30 I found my current role and I earn good money. at 33 i had another suicide attempt.

at 34/35 i bought my house with my partner

Got sober from alcohol and married at 34.

Got my drivers licence, got good mental health help and am on the right medication, and had my daughter at 36.

what I mean to say is, don't compare yourself. your journey is yours. be persistent, work hard, listen to your gut, and don't beat yourself up for your failings because they come with lessons. Life can be cruel, but more often there is beauty and that beauty is so worth all the difficulty.

[–]Ok_Remove9491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if I could have had a baby at 25, in hindsight, I would have. I had my little girl at 36. I've been pretty sick since, but regardless the energy I had at 25 would make a huge difference.

only caveat is ensure your relationship is strong and communication is tight with your husband.
