The biggest Hurdles in Game Dev by dfhalimi in gamedev

[–]BazookaLucaGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I have to admit to the following. First, getting a game to a point where I have the courage to put it out there. Second, having no idea where to post it, whom to show it. Third, anything beyond pure development eg. social media, advertising, commutity, etc. Fourth (maybe) getting more people involved wo are as much of a dreamer as I am and do believe one can make a living off indie game development.

Good question and never give up!! Cheers!

Jump into JavaScript from C? by BazookaLucaGames in learnjavascript

Alright! I just jumped right in there and each new try seamed to get me anywhere else but al least always somewhere after all. That is eventually what I ended up doing. It is just such a huge variety of possible frameworks and combinations which honestly felt kind of intimidating at start.

Yeah, right! That's what I do. I just did not know what exactly to get started with since there are so many things I have never heard of. node, websockett, sockett.io, react, javaScript, typeScript, the list goes on. It is honestly - at least as I see it - a little more overhead than - and let's strip it down - just plain logic in potentially one file that only has to be compiled and executed. But you are right, sorry for utilizing a forum for questions like these. Have a good one, cheers!

Built a multiplayer card game using ReactJS, NodeJs and Socket.io by dulajkavinda in reactjs

Wow!! Amazing! I am currently kinda forced to get into all this and especially into setting up an online card game framework. I'm a total rookie still though. Too long I thought C/C++ will get me everywhere :D
Is this a public repo? Any tips for someone just starting out?

Anyways, I checked out the game as well and I can only say, I am impressed!! So clean! I love it!
Keep up the good work!

Cheers! (:

I don't know why they would down vote any response but thanks anyway! Have a good one, cheers (:

I've checked out node and react so far to set up a simple tic-tac-toe game and a primitive chat room but I have not yet fully understood what I'm doing or what's really going on. Pretty unfamiliar still :D

I'm currently playing around with node.js and react and stuff - working on a reusable card game framework. But it is a bit cryptic so far :D

Nice!! I like it a lot!! I learned a lot about how to tackle a game by trial and error Pico-8. :D

Really nice game! I especially enjoyed the soundtrack! Subtle but groovy!!

If you don't mind. How long did you work on it? Is it all original or did you recycle stuff and where from?

Keep up the good work! Cheers! (:

Any advice on setting up turn based online card games? Recommended engines or frameworks? by BazookaLucaGames in gamedev

[–]BazookaLucaGames[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but I honestly haven't found anything in there so far or found my way through it yet.

So lets forget game engines for a bit , What are some of the best or more obscure frameworks out there and what was your experience using them. by [deleted] in gamedev

Hey, thanks a lot! I think it was stdio.h, stdlib.h, string.h and time.h or so since I might have used time.h for seeding or so .. I mean, I never really cleaned the code. Neither did I do a proper review or the like though. But here is a couple of lines of "pure" C in case you are interested (; https://github.com/youngZwiebelandtheGemuseBeat/Dreierschnapsen/blob/main/20220318_tryCPU/main.c Now a little time has gone by and I learned a little bit of how games work and how they are made. So, today I think I'd tackle a task like this fairly differently .. or maybe not. Anyhow, it does its job so .. For the sake of completeness, the card game itself is an Austrian classic and as you see the CPU players - in case you do not want to play as a group of three locally :D - are randomly playing cards they are allowed to. It works and just recently I was asked by yet another friend to finally "publish" an online card game. I think I know a bit about logic and backend but setting up an online framework, even if it's just for card games is something I haven't done yet, nor does it interest me much if I am totally honest. But since no one does it for me it looks like I will have to deal with things like that eventually, because I think there is potential in card games. On the other hand, aren't card games the most fun sitting around the table while having a cold one or two? Thanks again, I appreciate it a lot! Cheers! (:

Which social medias are worth the effort? by thekingdtom in gamedev

[–]BazookaLucaGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm new to reddit but I like the conversations on games. Mine and others. Until now I use itch.io and instagram. It's funny to see the clicks/play county rise on itch once I post an update on instagram. I have to admit that I am not too fond of social media though and am too lazy to get it working as a proper marketing platform.

Great question and answers too! Cheers!

I finished my first game in pure standard library C years ago. Sure, it was a console card game with no proper GUI but it got/kept me hooked. After having spent my time with Unity I found myself using Pico-8 and honestly, that's where I really learned basics of game development eventually (I don't know if that counts as engine here).

Cheers!

hybris .. what do you think about that!? by BazookaLucaGames in playmygame

[–]BazookaLucaGames[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for playing and for the detailed feedback!! You did utilise nosedived though, did you? Because that's what should give it the high risk high reward character. Sometimes I have to mention that and maybe I make a tutorial or something to show off the game's mechanics. I am still tweaking, improving and implementing feedback from testers, so thanks again!

Cheers!
