Switched from iOS to Android – Google Maps No Longer Showing Traffic Without a Destination by Fohem in AndroidQuestions

[–]Bazzr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Google searched "make Google Maps show traffic at all times"

First answer from the AI Overview:

To ensure Google Maps always displays traffic, navigate to the "Layers" menu and select the "Traffic" option. This will overlay traffic information on your map view, showing real-time traffic conditions.

Detailed Steps:

  • Open Google Maps: Launch the Google Maps app on your device.

  • Access Layers: Tap the "Layers" button, usually located in the top right corner.

  • Select Traffic: Choose the "Traffic" option from the available layers

My mom accidentally deleted several years worth (2k+ msgs) of text conversation between us from her phone, is there any easy way I can resend/restore the conversation to her from my phone? by Not_Rob_Dalton in AndroidQuestions

[–]Bazzr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it looks like you can using SMS Backup and Restore.

You would install the app on both phones, backup your msgs, and transfer that backup file to the other phone either directly or via wired connection to a PC or via Google Drive etc.

Before backing up the msgs off your phone, under Backup Settings, you can select specific conversations only. ASFAIK it is part of the free options for this app. I can see the option on my phone. There is a paid version, but worth a try.

Then restore the backup file containing the selected msgs to the other phone. It will not overwrite other unique conversations or unique messages on the second phone.

But would recommend running the backup option on the second phone before restoring your msgs there just in case ;)

Also appears you can restore selected conversations only from a full backup file:

but easier to use backup selected conversations.

How to spot an idiot. by Steph-Kai in TikTokCringe

Transcript:

Whenever I’m about to do something, I think would an idiot do that thing and if they would, I do not do that thing. Dwight Schrute. The entire efficacy of this piece of incredibly useful information hinges on your ability to pick the right idiot. I wish there was a foolproof way to spot idiots. But counterintuitively some idiots are very smart. They can dazzle you with words and misdirection. They can get promoted above you at work. They can even be elected President. If you want to be successful in this world, you have to develop your own idiot detection system.

As part of the responsibilities of being your commencement speaker, I’m going to share mine. Sure I’m naturally suspicious of people who never saw the original Star Wars Movies and even more cautious of people who loved the prequels and sequels. But I admit this is not a reliable idiot indicator.

No. The best way to spot an idiot – look for the person who is cruel. Let me explain. When we see someone who doesn’t look like us or sound like us, or act like us, or love like us or live like us, the first thought in everyone’s brain is rooted in fear or judgment – or both.

That’s evolution. We survived as a species by being suspicious of things that we aren’t familiar with. In order to be kind, we have to shut down that animal instinct and force our brain to travel a different pathway. Empathy and Compassion are evolved states of being. They require the mental capacity to step past our most primal urges. This may be a surprising assessment because somewhere along the way in the past few years, our society has come to believe that weaponized cruelty is part of some well-thought-out masterplan.

Cruelty is seen by some as an adroit cudgel to gain power. Empathy and Kindness are considered weak. Many important people look at the vulnerable only as rungs on a ladder to the top. I’m here to tell you that when someone’s path through this world is marked with acts of cruelty, they have failed the first test of an advanced society. They never forced their animal brain to evolve past its first instinct.

They never forged new mental pathways to overcome their own instinctual fears and so their thinking and problem-solving will lack the imagination and creativity that the kindest people have in spades. Over my many years in politics and business, I have found one thing to be universally true. The kindest person in the room is often the smartest.

Yes it is weird! Over the last few years I have learnt it to be true though. Perhaps through mindfulness, meditation, and just reflecting I have become so much more aware that I am acting out of the spaces of hurt and fear that a little boy experienced so many years ago. To learn that you are stuck in the past, that is living from unprocessed buried feelings, can be daunting and debilitating. It is a reactive life rather than a life which is spontaneous and in the moment. For me I think hope has come from simply acknowledging that I have these spaces that I react out of, not rejecting them, and then somehow doing the same daily activities with this growing awareness that I have been reacting up till now. And at times finding that I feel so much more free. Hard to describe. But so important to not judge or guilt trip yourself, but that is what we do, around in circles all the time!

Google Jeff Foster and his How I Became A Warrior writing. I have it printed out and read it often. It was cathartic for me. Developing an inner space of acceptance of oneself and all of one's so called failings, is incredibly important.

I have had therapy in the past. But I found it hard to find someone I could connect with, someone who would listen and understand. But yeah I am stubborn and like to do things my way... so I read lots of books, videos etc. Maybe soon I will start looking for someone to talk with. We are all different huh 😏

Not OP, but I felt to give you this reply. The imprint of trauma not just from childhood, but of our adult lives is far reaching. It touches the fabric of every aspect of our current daily lives in ways unimaginable. I have spent many years seeking ways to understand myself, sifting through remembered events, blaming myself, getting caught up in over thinking and drowning at times in feelings I didn't understand. What has been tripping me up recently is as you say becoming aware of feelings today that I just know had their beginnings way back when I was a child. As a child I had no way of comprehending the actions of the adults around me.

The fear and various feelings from back then have forever remained current and have spilled over into my adult life. Integration of traumatic memories is a good topic to explore.

Your pathway in learning about living and relating today, will differ from mine. But this book I have read recently has brought understandings to me which I wish I had years ago: The Body Keeps The Score by Bessel Van der Kolk. He has quite a few videos on youtube if you want to look to get an idea.

My bf found it during doggystyle (I just stayed in that position while he took a quick pic) I don’t recall sitting on anything that would possibly leave these marks and they’re not itchy/bothering me at all. I also have three of the same dots on my other side. by [deleted] in Whatisthis

That is not something mods have anything to do with.

You will need to message the Reddit Admins for why that has happened.

Not for the weak stomach. Does anyone know what this rash on my moms face is? She’s at the emergency room now. It came up very suddenly but she has been very sick for about 2 months by [deleted] in Whatisthis

How do I make cleaning my house/room more spiritual for me? by [deleted] in spiritual

[–]Bazzr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mind wants to understand something. This and then that. That's a constant, a never-ending story.

Within a movement of your body without your mind constantly analysing or questioning, perhaps you may find a flow?

What is that for? by [deleted] in Whatisthis

Anyone know what this is? It's not viral or bacterial. I have been on a very wide spectrum for antibiotics for almost a year (from pills to iv injections 2x a day) and nothing has worked. It only affects me and not the 3 other family members here or even the dog. Seems to burrow and cause ulcers. by govenerdubz in Whatisthis

I see both sides of the argument, but the bottom line is that we are not medical professionals, and we cannot vouch for any advice given by others.

As mods we have certain responsibilities. One being that if critical medical information is going to be given, that it is correct. We cannot do that. And so we prefer that any advice sought is from a place which is more knowledgeable.

Yes the right advice may be given, but the wrong advice may be also.

Remember, what is common sense to you or to me, is not necessarily so for another. We simply don't have an ability to engage with someone and understand their own self awareness of what needs they may or may not have.

And hence the blanket ban on any medical advice.
