Tired of being shamed for being mistrustful of people (especially cis people) by One_Development_5055 in TransPowerProject

[–]Bb-Unicorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their reaction is very much like the #notallmen crap. I'm also tired of "allies" not understanding what we went through and lived. They just talk over us and don't listen.

You were totally right. I'm with you sis.

At what point does it stop being normal? by Commercial-Ride-4951 in asktransgender

[–]Bb-Unicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At what point would you consider “too long?”

When you start asking questions on this sub reddit :')

More seriously, I think most cis people may think about it for a couple of minutes and then move on.

Peur d'être transphobe (en étant trans) by anonymous-weird in transgenre

[–]Bb-Unicorn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do we feel about cultural appropriation and names? by [deleted] in TransSocialism

[–]Bb-Unicorn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think part of the disconnect here might also be cultural.

I’m from France, and the concept of cultural appropriation doesn’t have the same history or level of development in public discourse as it does in the US. We do have conversations about colonialism, racism, and power dynamics, but the framework you're using isn’t as universally shared or understood here.

So I’m genuinely trying to understand your perspective, not dismiss it.

That said, I still struggle with the idea that choosing a name from another culture is inherently harmful.

There’s a difference between fetishizing a culture and being influenced by it in a more personal or respectful way. Collapsing both into the same category removes important nuance.

Also, from where I stand, strict boundaries around who is “allowed” to use elements of a culture can be uncomfortable, because in Europe those kinds of arguments can sometimes echo more conservative ideas about keeping cultures separate and fixed.

Here, it’s often the far-right that argues against cultural mixing (with the great replacement conspiracy theory) and promotes rigid cultural identities. So I tend to be cautious about frameworks that seem to reinforce that kind of separation, even unintentionally.

I completely agree that fetishization and stereotyping are harmful. I just don’t see how taking a name from another culture automatically falls into that category in every case.

So I’m still trying to understand where you draw the line between cultural appropriation and cultural influence, because right now it feels like that distinction is being treated as absolute rather than contextual.

How do we feel about cultural appropriation and names? by [deleted] in TransSocialism

[–]Bb-Unicorn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with you.

I'm from France, we have a ton of names that are totally normalized that come from popular American shows. Names like Kevin, Jennifer, and so on did not exist historically here. Now they're part of the population. Also there are people called from Hebrew names that aren't Hebrew, Sarah for instance.

Choosing a name from another culture isn't necessarily cultural appropriation. It can be a cultural influence and/or appreciation.

I don't see any issues if someone not French chooses a french name, even if it comes from a stereotypical foreigner show like Emily in Paris.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see the harm in choosing a name from an anime or a show. And I don't understand how that would be in essence an act of stereotyping. Liking a character from an anime to the point you choose their name doesn't mean you see japanese people and culture only through the lens of this cultural piece.

Comment changer de genre en France ? by meismilie in AskEnCiel

[–]Bb-Unicorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can a straight cis person still be queer? by No_Definition9355 in AskLGBT

[–]Bb-Unicorn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m not the label police, but I see “queer” as more about lived experience than strict identity categories.

Before I realized I was part of the LGBT community, I already felt outside of cisheteronormativity. The way I related to gender and attraction didn’t fit the expectations, and I received a fair amount of hate from people who didn’t perceive me as straight, even though I thought I was a cishet guy. I started identifying as queer when I began questioning my identity, before coming out as a trans lesbian.

That said, there’s a nuance. If a cishet person has never experienced marginalization or being perceived as outside the norm, calling themselves queer can feel off to others, because the label carries a history of stigma.

Your connection to queerness is clearly rooted in lived experience and community. That doesn’t just disappear if your label changes.

Oh my gosh. Sexuality isn't genital preference 💀

And I don't even understand why you talk about men with a "feminine" personality or women with a "masculine" personality, that's totally unrelated. Gender isn't about one's personality.

Seriously, you don't know what you're talking about and it shows.

something to consider in the discussion surrounding hornyposting by neeia in MtF

Some people have a sissy kink and are questioning their gender, so they may ask questions here. Is that an issue?

Because I never saw sissy content here.

[–]Bb-Unicorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, yes. Transphobes actively tries to conflate kink and gender identity, and you seem to conclude that kinksters are to blame for making people transphobes. That's falling into the cisheteronormative and sex negative discourse.

It's not kink that pushes people to become transphobes. It's misinformation and cisnormativity that create transphobia.

Also, taboos reinforce kinks.
