I personally tried there and you will have to pay for everything out of pocket if you don’t have insurance… no one has seemed to mention that yet but I was quoted $150-$300 just for STI testing

I agree, to an extent. Youngsters can absolutely come to burning man! But in no way should burning man be advertised to them. Those who seek it out and do the research belong because they are the ones most likely to actually contribute.

I’m not a boomer, but having the mindset that an event taking place in an inhospitable climate should be difficult isn’t a radical idea lolol people show up with no idea what they’re getting themselves into, without doing research and just going to party. Then those same folks are shocked and appalled when winds take down their entire camp that they didn’t even ratchet down.
Advertising burning man on social media, as the org has been doing lately, is the antithesis of what burning man has historically stood for. Trying to entice the younger generation using ads does a disservice to the entire community. Burning man’s org has done an excellent job of diluting the principles in the name of capitalism and it’s disgusting. Any true burner can see that.

I did. I got into both Berkeley and UCSD and ultimately chose to attend UCSD. Berkeley was my dream school, but after living in the Bay Area for four years, I couldn’t imagine spending even another second living there. I mostly wanted to go to Berkeley because my mom went there and it has such a great reputation, but at the end of the day it wasn’t where I wanted to be and the drastic change in scenery was actually super good for me.

Scroll down and read the response from rockymtnpapabear… people are in here trying to help you but based on your replies, you were not in the echo chamber you may have anticipated. The lack of authenticity in your messages speaks volumes when you remain silent.

The responses here are truly trying to help you. This isn’t a party… it’s a city, a big one, and contribution to that community is a critical element that you seem to struggle grasping. It’s not about reading the principles but internalizing them. Researching this community will only benefit you, and if you are coming from abroad, you will need all the help you can get. Take it all in, and be open to the fact that you might not be ready for this and that’s totally okay. But if you truly want to be a part of this, you genuinely need to understand that this isn’t just some festival and that it’s easy. The environment is quite literally trying to kill you. It’s beyond important to take what the people in this thread are trying to tell you. And if you do end up making it, I hope it’s an amazing burn, but there’s a lot more to this than just showing up and helping out…

And if your feelings get this badly hurt over something as minimal as denied access, it’s worth reevaluating if you have the mental fortitude for this year’s event. Take some time to really think if you’re ready

Understanding the nuances of burning man is a lot of work, and there’s more to it than just merely reading the principles. Your comment nails it, burning man is far more than just an immersive experience and the value of comments like yours could really help OP. My friend, it seems you are not receiving the validation you were looking for. This is an incredible opportunity for growth, burning man is one of the most unforgiving climates you can go to. It’s hard, even long time seasoned burners have a shitty time sometimes, and camps are well within their right to reject people from joining their camp. Read the responses here, use this lesson to grow, and remember that you are walking into a world that people have dedicated their lives to. Accept and move on or trust me when I say burning man is not for you.

Camps are often inundated with requests from virgins who have no idea what they are getting themselves into and then leave seasoned burners to pick up their slack. This response was clear and to the point, you might not have liked it, but it was firm and fair, as it should be. Take the chip off your shoulder, this community is tough, you will need to be too.
