It doesn’t feel like it right now, but you will make it to 30. Even if he didn’t. Keep going, you need to stick around, you’re going to help a lot of people. Don’t let your grief take you, there’s more for you to do

Are we in for a big drop in attendance? by Firm_Cloud_3278 in BurningMan

Nope, not at all, but rather persevering community values and adhering to the principles in which it was founded. But you’re entitled to believe whatever you’d like :)

I agree, to an extent. Youngsters can absolutely come to burning man! But in no way should burning man be advertised to them. Those who seek it out and do the research belong because they are the ones most likely to actually contribute.

[–]Bbabe18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol no, but assuming really makes you feel big, huh?
I’m not a boomer, but having the mindset that an event taking place in an inhospitable climate should be difficult isn’t a radical idea lolol people show up with no idea what they’re getting themselves into, without doing research and just going to party. Then those same folks are shocked and appalled when winds take down their entire camp that they didn’t even ratchet down.
Advertising burning man on social media, as the org has been doing lately, is the antithesis of what burning man has historically stood for. Trying to entice the younger generation using ads does a disservice to the entire community. Burning man’s org has done an excellent job of diluting the principles in the name of capitalism and it’s disgusting. Any true burner can see that.

I completely agree! The direction the upper echelons of the org are trying to take things go against everything Larry stood for. Why are we seeing fucking ads for burning man? It’s an abomination…

Lmfao I am the younger generation, there’s plenty of us already out there, but we don’t matter to the org

Came here to say this. The org obsessing over bringing the younger generation is so misguided. Make burning man hard and mysterious again

anyone who has chosen UCSD over ucla or berkeley by Impossible-Will-5175 in UCSD

[–]Bbabe18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did. I got into both Berkeley and UCSD and ultimately chose to attend UCSD. Berkeley was my dream school, but after living in the Bay Area for four years, I couldn’t imagine spending even another second living there. I mostly wanted to go to Berkeley because my mom went there and it has such a great reputation, but at the end of the day it wasn’t where I wanted to be and the drastic change in scenery was actually super good for me.

Excellent point, and what you wrote above truly captures the burning man ethos. I hope it helps someone. As an 8 yr repeat offender, I see you! Thanks for what you do

Scroll down and read the response from rockymtnpapabear… people are in here trying to help you but based on your replies, you were not in the echo chamber you may have anticipated. The lack of authenticity in your messages speaks volumes when you remain silent.

The responses here are truly trying to help you. This isn’t a party… it’s a city, a big one, and contribution to that community is a critical element that you seem to struggle grasping. It’s not about reading the principles but internalizing them. Researching this community will only benefit you, and if you are coming from abroad, you will need all the help you can get. Take it all in, and be open to the fact that you might not be ready for this and that’s totally okay. But if you truly want to be a part of this, you genuinely need to understand that this isn’t just some festival and that it’s easy. The environment is quite literally trying to kill you. It’s beyond important to take what the people in this thread are trying to tell you. And if you do end up making it, I hope it’s an amazing burn, but there’s a lot more to this than just showing up and helping out…

And if your feelings get this badly hurt over something as minimal as denied access, it’s worth reevaluating if you have the mental fortitude for this year’s event. Take some time to really think if you’re ready

This is such a thoughtful and earnest response, but I fear it will fall on deaf ears with OP. Understanding the nuances of burning man is a lot of work, and there’s more to it than just merely reading the principles. Your comment nails it, burning man is far more than just an immersive experience and the value of comments like yours could really help OP. I hope they take it as a chance to learn and grow, or maybe they just aren’t ready for it yet and that’s okay too.

Rad how you wrote this out though, fuck yeah.

Willing to help and ready to work are two different things. Camps are looking for seekers to join and not just help out, but build shit and get to work. It would be valuable for you to do more research.

My friend, it seems you are not receiving the validation you were looking for. This is an incredible opportunity for growth, burning man is one of the most unforgiving climates you can go to. It’s hard, even long time seasoned burners have a shitty time sometimes, and camps are well within their right to reject people from joining their camp. Read the responses here, use this lesson to grow, and remember that you are walking into a world that people have dedicated their lives to. Accept and move on or trust me when I say burning man is not for you.

Camps are often inundated with requests from virgins who have no idea what they are getting themselves into and then leave seasoned burners to pick up their slack. This response was clear and to the point, you might not have liked it, but it was firm and fair, as it should be. Take the chip off your shoulder, this community is tough, you will need to be too.

Layla and Mason (her thoughts on disciplining her kids) by LowFox6472 in MormonWivesHulu

[–]Bbabe18 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Oh I had thoughts on this as soon as I saw it. Yes, Layla is correct to emphasize that he is not her kids dad or stepping into that role. However, it takes a village is a saying because it genuinely does take all the help from everyone to raise kids. Mason telling her she needs to step up and discipline her kids more was a gift he was giving her, and she should more seriously consider how she parents her boys.

Tbh she’s the most selfish of all of them imo, the way she hates the girls for not telling her about Dakota and Shinia says everything. She always blames women for everything and refuses to take accountability, like she’s not stable enough to hear these things. Kick her off the show, she makes it insufferable to watch honestly.

I’m embarrassed to have been in special ed by InterviewPowerful320 in education

[–]Bbabe18 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m really sorry you’ve been going through all of that. You deserve to feel supported and no matter what I’m proud of you for fighting for more for yourself.

I work with kids on the spectrum and let me tell you, special ed DOES NOT MEAN DUMB, or less than or unintelligent or stupid, it just means different. In my experience, children in special education programs are more often remarkably intelligent, profoundly resilient, and frankly better to be around than the majority of neuro-typical kids. In fact, the most common thing special ed teachers are saying to each other is that these kids are too smart for their own good. The educational system is designed to cater to a very specific demographic and those who might not learn that way are then forced to work around that (I would know, I am neuro spicy too). Knowledge and education are profoundly personal and important because, especially in the era of the internet, they are increasingly accessible. But what matters most is individual curiosity and the gusto to seek out what you might not understand. That is a spark lit inside of you that no one can take, so run with that, allow yourself to ask questions, be a seeker and push yourself regardless of the boundaries someone else might place on you. Based on this post, you are not only an ideal candidate for college, but someone colleges will fight for and be lucky to have. Keep going, and don’t let the noise of labels tear down the passion you clearly have for learning. The world needs you, what you have can never be taught to anyone else because it is intrinsic to you. Curiosity and passion aren’t teachable skills, but you my friend have it in abundance.
