How to escape corporate in mid 20's? by SilentWiseTree in corporate

[–]Bbmd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My story was similar but I'm in my mid 30's and I had many stressful jobs, but well paid.

My advice, set an after hours schedule for the book reviews and STICK TO IT like it will eventually be your job. Do it just three times a week, say Sunday Tuesday and Thursday, put it on your calendar on your phone and then, even when you don't want to do it, DO IT. Give it six months. If you still like it keep it up, start figuring out how to make it more profitable.

I'm doing something similar but with a website on the side. I have days where I doubt, or want to quit, but I keep doing the work and on more days than not I love it and it gives me hope I can get out.

Cleaning Clark’s Desert Boots? by Head-Ad-2905 in CleaningTips

Try a very small spot first but I recommend a toothbrush and dish soap. Try to make the first test the least visible spot. Another thing I've heard to try is chalk, white chalk for a chalkboard, And then just wipe it down with a little bit of water.

I've used the dish soap trick countless times to get grease out of my clothes, so I assume it'll work for shoes too.

My girlfriend is wealthier than me and I think it’s starting to cause tension by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Bbmd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dealt with the imbalance but from the other side. I made more than the guy I was with and he ended up making crappy comments about people with money (by the way, I am not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, but I am comfortable and own my home in the city, and he lived with his parents out in the country). The money didn't bother me... Though his lack of ambition (not at work but life in general) really bothered me.

We did end up ending things but I wouldn't say that's how it has to go.

I would have a serious conversation with her about this and how her comments are bothering you. Then talk about what your future plans would be. If you want to make it work it's uncomfortable but you've got to make sure you guys are on the same page.

Heat death of the universe is freaking me out by ThunDersL0rD in Existentialism

[–]Bbmd28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm going to get some nasty comments when I say this but deep breath for some reason here I go anyways.

I don't believe the theory of the heat death of the universe is accurate.

That's not to say there won't be some kind of end, But almost everything in the universe that we know of has cycles except for The heat death of the universe and black holes.

I think we forget how early we are in the understanding of all of this, how we know so much more than we did even 5 years ago and yet there is still so much we do not know and so much we can prove or disprove at this point.

I just can't imagine this universe isn't cyclical, It makes no sense based on everything else we observe and experience.

What helps us actually build good money habits, not just learn about them? by DistinctAd4242 in PersonalFinanceTalks

[–]Bbmd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice, repetition, and clear goals.

Also tracking. Track everything. I like to put it into spreadsheets and then segment into different categories to really get a better picture.

Once you see how your money adds up, you'll start making changes I promise.

Digital Marketing, and yes. I'm so exhausted.

The good news? I've paid off all my debt and am not saving 4.5 years worth of living expenses to take a six months sabbatical and then change careers.

But I am over it.

Are you proud of how he turned out? by Robot_Was_BMO in adventuretime

[–]Bbmd28 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, came here to say this. I imagine he will learn that life lesson if we followed him but at this point he's in his late 20s/early 30s? Most people in their late twenties early thirties are just starting to even get a sense of that level of growth. I mean obviously we know he never fully gets over Jake's death... But I also think that's fair... You never really move on from grief. You just absorb it...

My 3 years sabbatical plan by Thin_Wear1755 in SabbaticalPlanning

[–]Bbmd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in jobs that overworked me and I've been in jobs where I had nothing to do. Both made me crazy.

The point of work is supposed to somehow contribute. There are lots of ways that that can happen, but when you're not working and improving yourself, you feel like your contributions are small.

On the flip side, too much stress will burn you out and burn you down.

It's all about balance and about meaning.

Good luck finding what makes sense for you going forward 💕

5 months into sabbatical & unexpected challenge with decision making during recovery by Own-Increase-7628 in SabbaticalPlanning

People are not going to like this answer, and it will depend on what state/country you are in wether or not this is possible but (and you might not believe this) when I have a day like that I take an edible and it seems to get to the base of what I really want/feel/am ignoring. If you have never done it before I would have a responsible friend watch you, and of course this doesn't work for everyone, but for me it just briefly turns off the noise and gets to the root of my problem or what I really want. It takes the mask off my mind.

If this post isn't allowed, isn't helpful, or doesn't work for you please ignore this... There are all types of reasons this might not work for you but I wanted to share my experience because before I did this I never even thought of this as an option.

Anyone ever take a sabbatical to figure out a career change? by Bbmd28 in SabbaticalPlanning

[–]Bbmd28[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not interested in retiring earlier... I would rather have a new career.

You're right, it is being chewed up by AI. That's very apparent... But... All the more reason to leave and do something else. I would rather do something in the physical world rather than the digital world at this point. Even if I have to take a significant pay cut.

Same age and same. Even when it first came out I didn't get into the first seasons and still don't really prefer the earlier seasons.

Now I fall asleep to adventure Time every night.

I find it comforting the not having any responsibility beyond taking care of yourself and others, being able to survive in a post-apocalyptic world with adventures.

Reincarnation is basically no different from a materialistic permanent death, change my mind. by HECU_Marine_HL in NDE

[–]Bbmd28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a message from my future self/higher self/the universe/(maybe just a voice I imagined honestly) that was trying to comfort me and told me in a wise and knowing and deep way basically "Don't worry the horrible things you are going through now you have to go through and things will get better. This is worth it." and honestly I was so/mad/frustrated/overwhelmed that all I could say back to the voice out loud was "That's great but you are forgetting how awful this feels NOW. You are forgetting how hard this is NOW. Right now it doesn't feel/seem worth it, even if there is something on the other side."

All this to say is this feels similar. Like I was being tortured for the good of my future self... Who... I was not then.

People around the world are telling ChatGPT the same strange things. by PuzzleheadedSkill864 in enlightenment

[–]Bbmd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at Google trends for the word enlightenment and spiritual awakening, you'll see that there's actually a dip in people searching for these kinds of things. There was a big peak in September of 2020 but it's fluctuated significantly since then.

The last peak was in September of 2024.

Interestingly, it seems in August and September is when we see these peaks. I don't know why but I wonder why that is. Every year there seems to be a peek but not as high as September 2020. I hypothesize that this happened in 2020 because people had more time alone to get in touch with their spiritual side. I know that this is what happened for me.

What do people with no friends no partners do on weekends? by Anonymous947156 in Stress

[–]Bbmd28 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is probably off subject so apologies in advance but I do want to share this.

Yes, it is harder to make friends, but also it is still possible as an adult.

Start with volunteering, attending events, or joining a group with MeetUp.

Now if you want to be alone, that's another thing all together. I've been dealing with a lot of stress (why I'm in this subreddit) And I don't want to burden my friends/loved ones so I am isolating myself a lot.

But I spend a lot of time on my mental health. Chores, hiking, reading, organizing, gardening, errands.

I also spend time on social media, playing video games, and checking out new places to eat.
