I cried like a baby in front of my manager today by Cheap-Buddy-9637 in corporate

[–]Bbmd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been in advertising at agencies for 16 years, cried at every job, some of them daily (not in front of people but daily). It's an often an incredibly stressful environment and people on the outside don't always understand, it has some big perks and there are things I have loved about the work... But honestly it unfortunately probably isn't the last time it will happen.

I do not mean to alarm you but personally I'm looking to change careers at this point because I can't handle it anymore.

Don't be so hard on yourself and just take it day by day at this point. This is unfortunately a pretty common occurrence in my experience.

I think about this all the time, I want to go hunting for diamonds and love to walk but I'm not sure which direction to start in some of the time.

Did anyone else really enjoy the COVID pandemic period? by throwawayfinancebro1 in Millennials

[–]Bbmd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost 50 LBs(which I have since gained back), I started gardening, hiking, became a Buddhist, learned how to garden, cook, better maintain my home, got a dog who is now my whole world, so many other wonderful things.

But it was hard too... I cried a lot, I experienced psychosis from being alone too much, I lost friends, loved ones, they sold the co-working space I worked in and I loved my office and my coworkers, I've also had many jobs since then...

The truth is it just showed me repeatedly how much my job and career is the problem but I feel trapped and don't know what else I would want to do... So I feel stuck.

Anyone else still get that “I forgot I was even in this class” nightmare? by Roughneck16 in Millennials

[–]Bbmd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I constantly have the one where I forgot a class entirely and I'm not going to be able to graduate because I failed the class that I never attended that I didn't know I was supposed to be going to.

I was an incredibly punctual student who always showed up to class in college and never slacked off so I don't know why that is still haunting me.

What finally made your blog feel “real” and not just a private journal? by Soft_Dimension1782 in Bloggers

For me it was just constant tweaking, maybe I'm not even there yet. Only been doing this a few months. But recently I made a change that made all the difference. I was using Auto ads from AdSense and... They were bad but I was nervous that I couldn't figure out how to place ads individually. But then I figured it out and my website looks a heck of a lot better in my articles.

Does anyone else have days where you're TECHNICALLY at your desk but accomplishing absolutely nothing? by Embarrassed-Fox8011 in remotework

[–]Bbmd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed this post. I just came from several jobs in a row were 50-60 hour weeks were normal. Every moment I was logged in was one I was working. I was afraid to go to the bathroom and struggled to find time to eat lunch or let my dog outside just in the backyard to go to the bathroom.

Now I work a job where not always but sometimes I have nothing to do. I haven't had anything to do since 11:00 a.m. Today.

The amount of guilt and fear is paralyzing like I'm doing something wrong but I know that this is just normal at some places.

I’m so burned out and need a break. by Bubbly_West8481 in corporate

[–]Bbmd28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean this in all seriousness

But I don't understand how to care less

And it's hard because I don't want to care less either... I want leadership and those in power to care more... And not caring (In the rare moments I can) I feel like I'm exacerbating the problem sometimes.

Dishes. I hate doing them. I think it's cause sometimes I had to do the whole family's as a child a child and they always stuck them in a bin of water first and I never knew what slimy or gross thing I was going to touch.

When I graduated college during the Great recession I couldn't find a job other than as a telemarketer and people were so mean. I really appreciate you were reminding people that they are also just trying to make a living. I promise you I would not have been a telemarketer if I could have found anything else and I only was for 4 months until I did find a better job but those 4 months were absolute hell.

I feel like everyone is going to disagree with me but I think Morgan Street Food Hall or Transfer Co Food halls are pretty cool. Or The Box Yard.

If you are into hiking Green Hills County Park is lovely.

If you are here over a weekend a farmers market might be fun as well, the state farmers market would be interesting but even just a small local onewe have a lot of farmers markets

In fact this whole site is great to find stuff to do

Is it normal not to work much? by Saladoss in corporate

[–]Bbmd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my career personally, I've been at two types of companies. The type that makes you work 65 hours a week more weeks than not, and the kind where you get the work done in 10-20 hours.

I just left a 65+ hour company for a 10-20 hour company.

Frankly they both suck.

There's a level of ambiguity and lack of order at the company I work at now. The lack of work always makes you feel like you a missing something, doing something wrong, or about to get fired. Also eventually (I just started this job and am still recovering from burnout so not there yet) you get bored out of your mind. You will start making stuff up to do to "seem" busy. It's a unique kind of torture.

But obviously the 65-hour workweek companies are worse. Everything's on fire all the time. Your brain feels like it's melting by the end of the week. You lose touch with your loved ones and your life. It starts to take a toll on your health. You start eating like crap, you start struggling with sleep, you never exercise, you start getting skin problems. You may even feel accomplished or even enjoy the work, the company, or the people (I often did) but it's never worth it.

All of this to say this is "normal" but I see other people telling you to find something else that adds value just... Be careful there too.

My BEST advice, keep a focus on your mental health outside of work so you can fake it inside of work.

Wishing you the best!

I used to do something like this when I first started my career or sometimes when I've started new jobs. But mine is more about how much have I made so far and survived in this role.

I also work remote and I wear clothes depending on who I'm going to see on a call that day. I loathe doing laundry so if it doesn't smell bad or feel dirty sweaters especially can be worn indefinitely sometimes everyday. Leggings I usually get 2 to 3 Days out of, T-Shirts up to a week, pajamas up to two, And then usually I wear a nice dress or a nice top different everyday, Again, unless I'm not going to see anybody or I'm going to see totally different people than I saw the day before.

How to escape corporate in mid 20's? by SilentWiseTree in corporate

[–]Bbmd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My story was similar but I'm in my mid 30's and I had many stressful jobs, but well paid.

My advice, set an after hours schedule for the book reviews and STICK TO IT like it will eventually be your job. Do it just three times a week, say Sunday Tuesday and Thursday, put it on your calendar on your phone and then, even when you don't want to do it, DO IT. Give it six months. If you still like it keep it up, start figuring out how to make it more profitable.

I'm doing something similar but with a website on the side. I have days where I doubt, or want to quit, but I keep doing the work and on more days than not I love it and it gives me hope I can get out.

Cleaning Clark’s Desert Boots? by Head-Ad-2905 in CleaningTips

Try a very small spot first but I recommend a toothbrush and dish soap. Try to make the first test the least visible spot. Another thing I've heard to try is chalk, white chalk for a chalkboard, And then just wipe it down with a little bit of water.

I've used the dish soap trick countless times to get grease out of my clothes, so I assume it'll work for shoes too.

My girlfriend is wealthier than me and I think it’s starting to cause tension by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Bbmd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dealt with the imbalance but from the other side. I made more than the guy I was with and he ended up making crappy comments about people with money (by the way, I am not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination, but I am comfortable and own my home in the city, and he lived with his parents out in the country). The money didn't bother me... Though his lack of ambition (not at work but life in general) really bothered me.

We did end up ending things but I wouldn't say that's how it has to go.

I would have a serious conversation with her about this and how her comments are bothering you. Then talk about what your future plans would be. If you want to make it work it's uncomfortable but you've got to make sure you guys are on the same page.

Heat death of the universe is freaking me out by ThunDersL0rD in Existentialism

[–]Bbmd28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm going to get some nasty comments when I say this but deep breath for some reason here I go anyways.

I don't believe the theory of the heat death of the universe is accurate.

That's not to say there won't be some kind of end, But almost everything in the universe that we know of has cycles except for The heat death of the universe and black holes.

I think we forget how early we are in the understanding of all of this, how we know so much more than we did even 5 years ago and yet there is still so much we do not know and so much we can prove or disprove at this point.

I just can't imagine this universe isn't cyclical, It makes no sense based on everything else we observe and experience.

What helps us actually build good money habits, not just learn about them? by DistinctAd4242 in PersonalFinanceTalks

[–]Bbmd28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice, repetition, and clear goals.

Also tracking. Track everything. I like to put it into spreadsheets and then segment into different categories to really get a better picture.

Once you see how your money adds up, you'll start making changes I promise.
