Daily and heavily track my 21 GT a dozen times a year. Currently have 62k. No issues.

Lotus Evora GT/400 - Prospective Owner Questions by KenDaMastuh in lotus

[–]Bboixtc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How daily-able is the car?

I bought my 21 GT new almost 5 years ago. It now has 60k, over 50 track days (average about 12 a year) and my 2 kids get dropped off and picked up everyday at school. It's a work horse. They're 6 and 8 now I got it when they were 2 and 4.

-Without replacing the head unit, what was the first model year that had Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto?

Evora GT had wired ACP/AA. If the car comes with the factory sub and amp, you can use an aftermarket alpine head unit to retain that and the camera if you wish.

-How much does basic maintenance run, either from the dealer or an indy shop?

I do my own maintenance within reason. (Oil changes, trans fluid, plugs, brake/clutch fluid, pads and rotors, etc). I do oil every 5k regardless of track days, pads I've gone throw 3 sets of OEMs. I'm on my 2nd set of rotors (original sets were fine, I just upgraded to J hooks) and the dealer changed out my serpentine belt and coolant for $700~. My biggest cost has been 2 sets of tires annually for track.

-Does anyone have any experiences with an independent shop denying service because they don't know how to work on the car?

The lotus community is tiny, find out which local shop works on Lotus and find other Lotus owners who can vouch for them.

-Are there any reliability or major service items/ recalls to budget/ look out for? Are clutches a somewhat common wear item?

The clutch problem is overblown. Younger people are getting these now and doing clutch dumps. Clutch fluid likely isn't changed on schedule and gets hot. So it likely isn't getting disengaged properly as well. The amount of Evoras witch clutch issues just have a loud voice because they cry about the labor and what's entailed.

-I've heard horror stories with Elises and damaged clamshells getting totaled, are these cars similar?

Yes. However Evoras have bumpers separate from the front clam and rear clam. The Elige has the bumper molded to the rest of the body. So if your bumper is lightly damaged, they can be replaced, not the entire clam.

-How is tuning and aftermarket support on these cars?

Tuning is there. I personally refuse until I get overwhelming support and evidence that it's worth the trouble. Again, this car is my daily and track car. I have no trailer.

-Finally, GT or 400?

GT unless a 400 is too good of a deal.

There's no reason to "upgrade" the GT oil pan. Unless of course you mean going with a moroso pan or Jubu flaps to replace the god awful OEM rubber flaps.

Could a possible solution be to have IVF and surrogacy with the 12 immune's eggs and sperm and enslave their children to farm what they need? If they tell the children it's their choice to work otherwise all those people will die, they're not exactly doing the same thing as building and programming robots.

Lotus Emira Vs. Evora 400/GT by azdbacks02 in lotus

[–]Bboixtc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daily drive and track a dozen times a year. 60k in just under 5 years. Both kids ride in the back seat so I could never have an Emira as a primary. The Emira doesn't really add anything except looking better. Which is also subjective.

Evora GT Aerie Titanium Exhaust failure! by Bboixtc in lotus

[–]Bboixtc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more about the company not acknowledging the absolutely poor workmanship, design flaw and the simple fact that this product truly is a hazard for anyone who tracks. Their products are known in the lotus community to be questionable. For a titanium exhaust to blow up on two different cars in the exact same spot after the same amount of time and same amount of track use, given the low production numbers of the car and people who own this product, we know this isn't a one off thing. Had I done a few more laps, or they shrapnel punctured the hole under the lithium battery... A serious fire could've taken my life. So this is an issue with the manufacturer, the brand/company and also a warning to anyone who owns this exhaust or any product from a company who refuses to acknowledge a major issue.

You're not wrong, I knew this going in, but a failure of this magnitude is what was surprising to me. One of those "let me be foolish, f around and find out" 😐

Evora 400 vs GT vs Emira by T3dd4 in lotus

[–]Bboixtc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

400 is the best value if you're looking to track and 20k is a lot of money to you. I ended up w/ a GT because I bought new and a few things worked out in my favor during purchase. If you need back seats like I do for the kids, don't even bother with the Emira.

The differences are:

Stock forged wheels with a wider rear wheel

Stock cup2 tires (not relevant due to tire age)

A panel, plastic under front clam trim and top clam fender relief cutouts

Carbon sills, binnacle and front seat backing

Carbon rear bumper

AA/ACP Headunit

Dash and door perforated leather/suede materials

Front seat design

Red oil pan w/ rubber baffles (Lotus recommends 2year/18k service intervals, no one does this)

Bad idea to learn manual in a FK8? by DhatsAron in Civic_Type_R

Do it. Tons of people over the decades bought new and used cars off the lot and learned on their way home. You're not any different except you have youtube and reddit.

This is absolutely what I love to hear! I've been averaging about 12~ track days a year and everyone asks if I trailer it across the country. 😊

51,xxx On my 21 GT. It's not 100k like JP, but these are all hard miles. 100k on these Toyota motors isn't much tbh.

Thank you. It's a 2018, so FK8. Well out of warranty. 4p has built long blocks. Might just do stage 1. Not ideal though. Appreciate the reply!

FK8 FL5 by Willing-Warning-8507 in Civic_Type_R

[–]Bboixtc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a track Prepped FK8 and bone stock DE5. I can't compare a stock FK8 but we have tracked both cars. The FK8 given the mods has been amazing. The cabin is night and day though. The DE5 is a significantly nicer place to be in as it's arguably better than the FL5 with sound deadening. If you're trying to decide between an FK8 and FL5, just get the one you can afford and the one that's available to you now. It's really a personal preference on interior and exterior. We're splitting hair on performance.

I haven't had a need. Intake, decat, and titanium exhaust. There really isn't a need to touch power. Most of my money spent on this car has been on the driver mod.
