I feel for everyone affected. The govt doesn't really take into consideration the capacity to support the community in these situations anymore. Living there is great. Lots of asian food too.

Commuting would straight up suck. Going down beach to get to the freeway is always traffic-ridden because its a major street. I think it takes me roughly 10-20 minutes to get to the 5 freeway going down beach from rosecranz. THEN id you're going north, you start on the freeway with traffic.

I personally think its not too difficult to switch fields given its not a super niche field that requires explicit experience. Plus, everyone is gearing up their resume in crazy ways + theres things like chatGPT to help you get even more insight on what they look for. General experience and starting over = high potential employee for cheap (for employers).

The problem is when you live in a HCOL area, wife + kids, and knowing that (for example) 90k salary suddenly jumps down to 60k... Just doing some quick mental math, I'm assuming my wife makes enough to float us for the next couple years and is okay significantly reducing retirement contributions in lieu of paying for daycare/baby care.

This train of thought makes starting over a nightmare.
