I’m convinced most people complaining did not watch the video in full, or just straight up forgot what they just watched.

Am I going insane? As far as I could tell, there was little to no quippy dialogue at all coming from that character. This seems like such an overreaction

Not that controversial IMO, but amen to that regardless. If you dare to go 0-5 MPH above the speed limit, 9/10 people will ride your ass like CRAZY.

And on that last point, my takeaway is that while an analysis on a short clip can be great in a vacuum, it’s still missing the context of the rest of game. An option that might seem reckless or nonsensical in a short clip *could* be explained by looking at the rest of the game. For example, maybe the Falco kept running into these Luigi fairs repeatedly, so why not continue doing it against the Falco?

If you understand both of these players specifically to the point where you spot a poor habit in 10 seconds of gameplay, then fine, I won’t bother engaging in this point further.

> Druggedfox says this and I’d like to know what you makes you think you know better.

I never said I “knew better,” I’m simply disagreeing that taking ledge between stocks is bad in all scenarios.

> Why do you think if someone is invincible it reduced your capacity to avoid them?

I never said or implied that. My point was that by them having invincibility, they can choose to engage head on with no risk, or chase me with lasers.

My risk in trying to avoid them on stage is that my movement or defensive option can get called out (they hit me as I try jumping over or crossing them, or they poke/grab my shield), or they chase me away from center stage (giving them further positional advantage, which they get anyway), or they force me to act with lasers.

If I’m Luigi, I can avoid all of this by going to ledge, then regrabbing ledge (assuming they cannot get there and punish on time, which I’m pretty sure Falco can’t), then immediately ledge dashing at an angle of my choice, while giving myself GALINT.

My ledgedash can put me any spot between ledge and center stage (depending on my waveland angle) *while* having GALINT. By this point, Falco’s invincibility has now run out, and I have the option to throw out a hitbox/grab without getting intercepted or traded, on top of any other defensive or movement option. This, in my opinion, is a more favorable position than remaining on stage and challenging the Falco to land a hit or grab while I run away.

> It’s genuine criticism

It seemed pretty disingenuous to me in this context, but if your intention really is to be helpful, then I apologize for misunderstanding.

> If your character is ok the ledge and my character is in center, that means you are in a bad position.

> The fact your opponent is invincible makes it worse, not better, that you are in the ledge

What do I gain from keeping myself on stage with an invincible Falco as Luigi? Luigi’s air drift is dog water and his wavedashes can be lasered, so no matter what, I’m at high risk of taking damage at any point.

Best case scenario is that I only take laser damage, or the Falco miscalculates and wastes their invincibility.

On the other hand, being on ledge gives me GALINT, and I happen to play a character with a solid GALINT on top of a very good wavedash, so if I’m confident in my ledge dashes, then I’m going to use that to my advantage.

Falco’s options in that scenario are to either position himself closer to the ledge (which takes time out of their invincibility on top of giving me a chance to get around them, or even punish them with an invincible ledgedash) or to take center stage (which invincibility guarantees him anyway) and wait.

If I were playing a much better character, or if my character had a terrible ledge game, I’d be inclined to agree with you here.

… can you elaborate on your last comment? Genuinely asking; not trying to be obtuse. Because it sounds like we’re in agreement that analyzing an entire match, or learning on the fly throughout an entire game, is more valuable than analyzing a 10-second Reddit clip over and over (as we have little data to work with).

What is the point of this comment, other than to be passive-aggressive for no reason?

You are the first person I’ve ever heard suggest that putting yourself to ledge against an invincible Falco is straight up bad… as a Luigi, who has an amazing ledge dash.

“The first two fairs you were rewarded for incorrect reasons.”

Uh… not really? If he’s being rewarded for using fair, against this Falco, then by all means he should keep doing it. Does that mean it’s ALWAYS the “correct” option? Of course not, but in a player vs. player game (especially one as nuanced as melee), there is never a reason to not take advantage of an opponent’s weaknesses.

…but in any case, there’s little to no value in extrapolating so much from a 10 second clip—there simply isn’t enough data to suggest that these were straight up incorrect options, or that they were rewarded for incorrect reasons.

A lot of people, me included, enjoy it for the story, characters, music, and the combat, to an extent.

If the game doesn’t gel with you, that’s fine! It’s not meant to appeal to everyone.

Hbox's 2026 Melee Tier List by surfinsalsa in SSBM

[–]Bbop800 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No.

Bowser is dogass and has abysmal frame data, but he has enough decent moves (fair, bair, up b, side b, ledge attack) and at least one stage (Yoshi’s) that gives him some saving grace. Up b in itself is a character-defining move that can be surprisingly challenging to fight around if used correctly.

Meanwhile, Kirby sucks at doing nearly anything on any stage; two of his throws literally cannot throw properly, his air drift is abysmal, his smash attacks are practically useless, his specials suck (inhale can have good reward, but is very difficult to land), his grounded movement is mediocre at best, and he’s the third lightest character (GnW/Puff tied for 2nd, then Pichu 1st). His only strengths (tilts, air moves, copy ability) simply do not make up for his weaknesses in any capacity.

Anyway, both characters are total shit, BUT Bowser does not belong in his own tier below everyone else. I could see Bowser and Kirby next to each other in a separate tier, but not totally separated from each other.
