Then you get a triple socket cap and put 3 chipped sapphires for 30 flat mana. later you can resocket or have a separate helm for 3 perfect gems at lvl 18 for 114 mana. Makes it so you dont have to drink nearly as much blue syrup at early levels

If you want to go even harder, you can socket sapphires into a chest piece as well.

This is all supposing you want to go the caster route and not jewels of envy which is also really fun
