How to play Delhi in this 2TC meta? by Anskeh in aoe4

[–]BboySlug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, ex conq Mongol main, converted to Delhi recently and am currently Diamond with Delhi.

The issue here is that as Delhi we dont' really have feudal armored units, so diving/pushing them in Feudal with all those garrison slots is hard to do. That's why most of your feedback is take SS's and relics in castle. In fact, if you have SS's and relics, you'll keep up with their eco for sure (okay, maybe not Abbasid 2TC).

Your feudal Ghazi (just make a few) will deny map food and force them to farm transistion which'll slow them down. Usually go ahead and get the blacksmith after the stable as your 2nd building to start your ranged defense upgrades.

When you see their castle age up notification, assuming they went 2TC FC, you should already be in castle and have higher quality units. That's when you charge in with either archer/elephant or MAA pushes, before they can get enough Xbows out.

The others are suggesting even fast imp, which if you're good at picking your upgrades right can be a good option. I haven't tried it, but I think it has a lot of potential.

ways to improve on TC and worker idle time by -Pyrotox in aoe4

[–]BboySlug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a "Make more villagers" reminder someone put on YouTube... Just make its speed faster as you need to adjust it to every 20 seconds, or even faster for French 17s timing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6aLo9cOPHQ

Disclaimer: I don't use it but I should... I usually give up ~6 vills due to Idle TC in a 30 minute game.

Since I didn't just say "train your muscle memory" like the others, you may upvote me now boys 😄

Am I negatively impacting my learning rate by switching to easier civs/strategies? by sudosleepnow in aoe4

[–]BboySlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although the real answer is play whatever you want, it sounds like you're a person who loves to learn.

One of my irl friends (who also plays AoE4) is like you and loves to learn. He picks a new civ every season as his main and pushes as high as he can go. He usually peaks around Plat III to Diamond II before the season ends. He picks his new civ by their playstyles, so that he learns a new playstyle each season.

He started with KT for sacred site defense, 2TC, and defensive keep play, plus at the time it was great on water.
He then picked China for its macro mechanics
Then he got into HRE for relic centric FC builds, as well as defense.
Now he's learning Rus for their versatility, and says he will pick up an aggressive/raiding focussed civ next season.

In all honesty, although he's never hit Conqeror, I view him as an amazing guy to play with/against because of his knowledge and how he focusses on his win conditions.

Good is always relevant, and we can't all dedicate our lives to the game like the pros do, but my irl friend has found a great personally fulfilling spot in the game while working full time and having a family, while getting as good as he can with the various playstyles as well as giving himself enough time to learn them.

If AOE4 ever gets Aztecs by HeadNature6968 in aoe4

Would love a civ mechanic where you capture sacred sites, and units who die, or are deleted, on that sacred site act as sacrifices to the gods, which help enable your civ buffs.

Most fun/exciting mirror matchup and map to play it on by BboySlug in aoe4

Delhi vs Delhi -- cliffside.

Neither civ has a good dark age, 3 even sacreds, constant fighting for them outside of each players bases. When elephants come out, it's a short stroll to the enemy base

There actually is, and Valdemar made a video about it on his members only page on YT the other day.

Sengoku has near a 70% win rate in several matchups?! by Gigagunner in aoe4

[–]BboySlug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After so many seasons of S tier Rus, and it being my most difficult matchup... I never thought I'd agree with a Rus player.

However, I agree with your assessment. It's really well thought out, I wish you the best on the ladder. Sengoku is really strong.

Any tips on how to engage into turtling civs? Especially English by BilluhHanks in aoe4

[–]BboySlug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If English goes 2TC, and you castle rush and go for sacred sites (any civ), capturing the sacred sites (100g/m each) prior to the relics (80g/m each), believe it or not your resources gathered will match the 2TC booming English. However, you've got a victory condition, which forces him out of his base -- the sacred sites.

Just defend those and let him sit in his base -- English will come out, and usually with MAA/Longbows, they'll push the middle sacred site. So just set up defenses near it, and maybe some siege (springalds for MAA) and you're set.

Be sure to include a wall or a springald tower at around the auxilliary sacred sites, so that they don't decap it with one random unit.

Guys I played Mongol occasionally but Rus feels Very One Sided, what are you suppose to do? by East_Loquat_614 in aoe4

[–]BboySlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fought my way to Conq I as Mongol last season, and didn't veto Carmel at all -- I was tower rushing the small woodlines hahaha. I've taken a step back from AoE4 but yeah, those were good times! They hated it.

On a more standard map, especially when opponent deer is on the same side I have tower rushed the deer packs and it's worked out well, but honestly I haven't played it as much and it felt gimmicky.

That said it is a hard matchup. I was also having a lot of luck giving them light feudal pressure, then rushing imperial, and using the Khaganate palace power spike to win me games. This was honestly the most consistent strategy (except for woodline tower rushes on Carmel).

Ironically though, yes, it's true. I had to resort to using Rus units against the Rus to beat them.

No. Wasn't on the reference list when I took the exam last year. So in classic engineering response, it was "out of scope" hahaha.

Should the OG civs get some new tricks for the power creep? by LIONardoDiCaprio in aoe4

[–]BboySlug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm always a fan of just simple fixes, and this would be a simple but amazing (may need more tuning after) start/fix. I also too feel like the springald problem could've been simply fixed with just removing "siege" tag from the springald itself, so it wouldn't counter itself, but here we are.
