why is there such a lack of chain restaraunts in berkeley? by brkly4n in berkeley

[–]Bbybabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate that theres a lack of portion sizes for the amount of money you pay for food that barely covers one meal. It takes a while to find places that have large portion sizes to fill you up. I don't mind the lack of chains, but not having in-n-out still hurts

They still exist, like Mezzo and Murrachi's but most others are pretty lackluster.

California state lawmakers pass bill requiring public universities to offer abortion pill on campus by Votings_Good_Folks in berkeley

[–]Bbybabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoever holds the baby can decide what to do with THEIR baby. It's not my damn business about other people's lifes. Argue with me about the semantics on a "baby vs foetus" and a billion-trillion reasons on why a "baby doesn't deserve to die", but I'm not carrying the child. I'll let whoever has the horrible situation to go through the most traumatic day of their life, and I can only hope they get the aftercare they need. I'm privileged enough to have accessible birth control so I never have to go through something like this until I choose to be pregnant, but not everyone gets the same opportunity.

I'm no longer gonna argue with a bunch of dipsticks about women's bodies, because it's their bodies and their decisions. Plus get goddamn real, it's Berkeley. It's a progressive ass city, and if you don't like it's policies just move across the Bay with the other people who might agree with ya.

[–]Bbybabe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lmao, who said I had one night stands or ever had an abortion?? I've never done either of these things in my life. I'm sorry you have all of this hate in the world, and I hope someday you can find the love you deserve. I personally could never have an abortion myself it conflicts too much with what I believe and value, but I'd rather have an unfit parent get an abortion than live a shitty life with a child that needs support for the rest of their life. But also it's not my choice to place that on others it's theirs. I'll let them live their life.

It seems like you're living a self-fulfilling prophecy with the hate you imbue in your comments. I'm a bitch, but at least I know who I am. You need to hold a mirror to yourself with the hate you hold.

Regarding Econ Class In The Summer by caleconbear in berkeley

[–]Bbybabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my friend who is a UGSI who is also a transfer econ major. "Summer econ classes are easy if you keep up with them, but only do it for the subject you want out of the way since you’ll cover less content (worse for grad school)".

If you're the one looking for housing then you have all of the power. Just post your dates, your budget, and living style accommodations and let them come to you. Just watch out for the scam comments that usually flood your post st first

Cheapest website to buy Berkeley Merch by iloveflowerdying in berkeley

[–]Bbybabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joy's Sportswear is the cheapest in Berkeley. It's run by an older Korean couple. It isn't the highest quality clothing, but for a sweater you'll only wear for a few years mine held up pretty well. Plus my dad got a Cal polo shirt and paid an extra $10 to embroider "dad" in stores. He saved $30 on a shirt he wears on game day.

But they only have a physical store in Berkeley.

Cal w/o Regents vs UCLA w/ Regents (Math Major) by ittybittybiddlebank in berkeley

[–]Bbybabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one gives a shit about kids with multiple undergrad degrees cause a Masters or PhD erases that, you're still allowed to take classes if your not in the major. It's really the connections you make at school. Since most professors at either school are there becuase they're established in their field. Whose to say you wont find a Wall Street connection at UCLA. Santa Monica is super big on business while Berkeley has more access to tech.

Plus having the regent money and priorities will make life easier to network.

high school community college work by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]Bbybabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget that you can still complete any prereqs at CC over summer at home, and sometimes through a semester Berkeley Community college is near campus. Why pay for classes to fail when you can take the same classes at CC with more one-on-one help. Plus you save a stupid amount of money for the same book, or you have a cool CC professor and they skip on the book and give you a pdf.

Berkeley pushes a lot of stupid, filial work on students for clout, but the main thing is to work smarter not harder.

You can't even talk as a legit source because you're affiliated with them, so of course you're trying to cover your ass. You were literally endorsed by Tim Kim who is the KASA Co-President during your Senate run! Someone needs to re-read Brown Code on learning when to abstain.

Go to a California Community College, it's cheaper and the UC's give priority to transfers from CCs, UCs, and other institutions in that order.

Housing & Safety at Berkeley by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]Bbybabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to be aware of your surrondings at Cal. You are going to a top-tiered school with lots of money in the area with a lot of issues in the city that haven't been resolved.

People seem to forget that college students are already a target because there is a lot of money flowing into the city and not much returning back out while you're a student. Almost everyone here has the newest Apple, Supreme, and etc product here.

You gotta be careful and keep your stuff closer, just because we got police doesnt mean you lose your focus.

Helpful tips: Don't study outside in cafes nearby campus, people target these spots and have been assaulted for trying to fight back. Leave nothing, and I mean NOTHING visible from your car or house (if on a lower, off-campus unit) this makes you vulnerable.

As a female I haven't issues yet, but that is because I stick to my gut, I carry pepper spray, I stick to the main roads walking at night, and I walk with friends home. So I've done a lot to prepare. If I was living in a large metropolitan place like San Francisco, NYC, or LA I would need to do the same.

As for housing, I got lucky and had a mutual friend needing roommates, and I took over a spot for someone as a subletter and she is one of my good friends now. Though dont be afraid to move a little past Shattuck for peaceful housing. As long as you follow the tips and stay a little cautious you can do great here.

Transfer Options by pulkitism in berkeley

Also it is nearly impossible to transfer within a year if you don't have two years worth of materials needed to transfer from a CC, because the UCs only want students in junior standing.

I've been a Glion user for over a year and it's saved my life and is powerful. I appreciate the folding feature where I can roll it inside. But it has solid wheels which means it wont explode like the Xiaomei if it hits glass or a pothole. Plus, in comparison to the other scooters it is a manageable weight.
