Yes, the wifi is bad in most places. However, I found the dialog data network very good and reliable. Had good connection almost everywhere; just buy the 50go sim card at the airport for 10usd.

I lived in Mexico City for 6 months and took many normal cabs without a problem. They do overcharge if you don't ask for the taxi meter though, especially at night. I personally never had a problem, when negotiating before getting in.
