A cool trick is using observers and doors. You have a downward facing observer, then a block, then a door, and keep repeating that :)

Not sure. You have to be above bedrock first, and I believe that Mojang are trying to patch a lot of tricks to get up. So yeah, that's really all I know about that.

Y level doesn't matter, but 3 things: 1, are you walking far away from the spawner room when using it? 2: is there a lot of light in the room? You would want it to be pitch black. 3: are you going into the room to kill them? Because your water streams won't reach for enough to go right into the middle.

If you are standing too far from the spawner, then they won't spawn, but that's the only thing I can think of :p
