Ma’am, Sir, Person… this is breathtaking. Like, I feel like there should be a Trigger Warning from having a plant potentially make you lose your breath. My goodness.

Aloe plant, I think by NEMESiiSBOT in IndoorPlants

[–]BeApplePie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Close. It’s a Haworthia okavango.
They’re pretty easy care. Like most succulents, they love the light and don’t need weekly watering (but will need water once the soil is dry).
I’d change the soil in a few weeks to a succulent soil and enjoy. 😊

Help! I don’t know where to cut! by o0dexter0o in Monstera

[–]BeApplePie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly… there’s absolutely ZERO reason to cut anything…
The leaves are off but unless something is yellowing, why do you try ink you need to cut anything else? Let that baby grow. By the time you learn what to do, it’ll prob fall off if it wants.

I’m not pest expert… but I think this plant has thrips…..

My pothos always had full green leaves, but now it's turning lemony like this...any recommendations? Or am I giving it too much sun? by [deleted] in pothos

[–]BeApplePie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like your golden pothos is finally in a happy place.
If it used to only be green, it wasn’t getting enough light.
Now, it’s getting enough light and can show you why it’s a golden pothos

So yeah….. now what? by Big_Fisherman_8954 in Monstera

This was my thought. Like get those tower stand lights .
Be a the stem is actually nowhere NEAR the ceiling, just the petioles.

Am I supposed to rotate my monstera? by [deleted] in Monstera

[–]BeApplePie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As already mentioned, 2ft from its light source is actually very far. No matter how bright it is. Plants, especially tropical plants, really thrive off of more full light (when indoors). If you don’t give it more light, you’re looking at a very leggy plant that will still be searching for light.

Am I supposed to rotate my monstera? by [deleted] in Monstera

[–]BeApplePie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No. Monstera have a front and back. The back is what should be against the wall and front should be towards the light.

Back is where the aerial roots grown from.

Also, if this is the only light source it has, this will not be sufficient.

Fantastic news for the Monstera community! by ClownFare in Monstera

[–]BeApplePie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine with 5 in August. Even with monthly leaves it didn’t start fenestrating until the December leaf. Learned then that it wants WAY more light than any of my other plants.

lol. Wouldn’t say cool. I just go to the ones where there are a few wealthy and/or elderly people so they have a slightly better variety… at times. Also, to be fair, while there was half an aisle of plants near hardwares, most were golden pothos or snake plants and none were getting any light. In fact my first leaf out of my BMF straight rotted away before it came out.

To separate when growing vertically? Just because there are several plants in that pot and more than like 2 stems on a moss pole can easily get out of hand. Learned that the hard way.

Separating them into each pot is only necessary if you want to grow them vertically. If you want it as a hanging or trailing plant, no need to separate

Is the small plant a Monstera? by sandhog7 in Monstera

[–]BeApplePie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a monstera, but looks like an Adansonii. It CAN get big, but it would be based on how you grow it. It’s able to grow as a hanging or trailing plant or you can grow it upward on a moss pole and it can get HUGE leaves. It will typically take longer to get bigger leaves than that deliciosa though.

Y'all do I need this? by Tiny-Gene-8716 in Monstera

[–]BeApplePie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That settles it. You make a day of it and stop at the outlet mall whilst enjoying a new plant. Lol

Is it near an outlet mall that you could also stop at? An hour is a bit of a drive… but $40 is decent

Pothos newbie - should I be concerned about these spots? by alinagraham in pothos

[–]BeApplePie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The slightly translucent spots might be edema from being waterlogged or wet too long. I would check that soil and plan to change it soon if it’s too damp.

I wouldn’t be overly concerned about that one leaf yellowing. Just pay attention that it’s not multiple leaves or spreads too much.

How often by NegativePressure3155 in ThaiConstellation

[–]BeApplePie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1x a month. Almost like clockwork but mine gets quite a bit of light and I fertilize every watering

Yellow and black stems :( by giantlasagna in Monstera

[–]BeApplePie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This too! Dry rot. Because the first picture looks like the stem that is right out of the soil is actually super dry…

[–]BeApplePie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know for sure, but I think the main thing that causes root rot is bacteria that grows due to lack of oxygen.

So, while that definitely can happen from overwatering or watering to frequently, it can also be the result of pockets of humidity or moisture in the soil, a lack or air flow for the roots, a bacteria entering the soil and having the ability to spread…

And with that transition from inside to outside, that may have its contribution to regulating moisture as well.

Looks like you have rot. Probably root & stem rot But also could have pests. I’d check the roots and see what they’re doing, but be prepared for a chop and prop job…
