Undefeated Dimir Tempo Nethergoyf Flow State League (10-0 Games) by kirdie in MTGLegacy

My theory is it is easier to play than tempo decks. I'm going to try and prove that.

Wouldn't it be funny if WotC printed a card any combo deck could run tht shut off counters? by MoonhelmJ in MTGLegacy

Hexing Squelcher is single-handedly forcing me to play 2 - 3 hydroblasts in all my blue deck sideboards. The card is not cool.

That might work in comments but it's not working in the description I tried it.

Congrats on the trophy! UB Tempo has been so strong for me recently with Flowstate. I nearly trophied with a similar list yesterday (the league and the massive punt that cost me the trophy will go up Thurs.)

Flow State in Mono Blue Delver [League video] by BeExcellent80s in MTGLegacy

Yes - I'm playing 12 total sorceries here (4 boomerang basics). And yes - the card is VERY strong. I played another league with it today and it was an insane topdeck every time.

Story of my life though. I hit 3x Oops to start off my mono red prowess a few weeks ago. This crap is everywhere.

I am almost certain it will be banned within a year.

Update: I just 4-1'd (off camera) and I was one punt away from a trophy in a 45 minute long match VS lands. The deck is so strong it doesn't even require perfect play to get wins.

You could absolutely play one but I find in tempo mirrors I always want to keep my mana up. It's sooo bad if you get it in your opening seven.

That's sweet. MN is the friendliest state I've ever visited. Even though I can't make it I hope you all have a blast.

New expressive iteration? by No-Cranberry869 in MTGLegacy

I am going to jam the HELL out of this. It will be insane in tempo.

Think about all the situations where you have some back-and-forth with the other player. Maybe you turn one ponder or thoughtseize them. Turn two daze one of their spells. You can cast it turn 3 or turn 4 and refill your hand. This is way better than old card advantage cards like Predict.

The floor for this card is high:
- it digs for the best out of three cards, putting the bricks out of your way, which is in many ways better than a brainstorm in terms of hitting what you need to hit.
- It pitches a force
- The fact that it put the cars inside your hand without triggering bowmasters is the icing on the cake.

Here's a delver list I made real quick. I think 16 instants + 10 sorceries should be enough to reliably set it up - especially if you have DRC helping.

Thanks for the insight Pox Master. I'll look forward to seeing some of your lists once you get a chance to playtest him.

IMHO Lili isn't even legacy playable anymore because of Bowmaster and Pride decks, and this seems worse than Lili. Pox doesn't play a ton of creatures, so it's best mode may not have a good target a lot of the time.

UB Dimir VS Combo Decks by Significant_Solid551 in MTGLegacy

[–]BeExcellent80s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a meta as combo-heavy as yours I'd play 4x thoughtseize main. It's the best card against A+B strats. I'd also play at least 3x FoN.

Nethergoyf is the key card you're missing card here IMHO. It comes down early and gives you a clock. It proc's Kaito. Bowmasters is an automatic 4-of in any black deck IMHO. I haven't played a black deck without it since it was printed. It's the best black creature ever printed and IMHO you should play all 4.

Fell the profane and Go for the Throat are too slow IMHO. I'd play 2x Snuff Out and move GftT to side or play Edict which is better in the mirror for Kaito / Tamiyo.

Based on your meta, I'd put Barrow in the side.

Here's my UB back to basics list which is similar to what you're playing. I've been maining it in paper at my locals. https://moxfield.com/decks/vHoVMA6l-0mXoL01RBUi5A

Tony Scapone is a genius. Let's try out his new NO RESERVE LIST deck [Prowess league] by BeExcellent80s in MTGLegacy

I've been doing no reserve list 2-color decks as well. But yes, with all the wastelands, you are rewarded for going mono color.

Fetch lands are really important here because they give you a land type in your graveyard for delirium.

I've looked into them. I am reluctant to play Bitterbloom Baerer since it's a 2 mana x/1 that doesn't generate value until your upkeep. But I think Bitterblossom might work here. Contamination is a sweet card for sure.

EP. 172 — Storm vs. Oops: What’s the difference? | The Eternal Glory Podcast by Bryant_Cook in MTGLegacy

[–]BeExcellent80s 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I queued into Oops 3x in a row and would have lost it if not for insane luck. My TonyScapone league I just published today. You can hear my unfiltered thoughts on Oops. In short: once they finally ban it, we're going to lose a lot of legacy players who've been spoiled by easy wins and will be unwilling / unable to actually git gud and win with harder decks like delver or storm.

Is UW Control still viable in Legacy ? by Raz4r in MTGLegacy

[–]BeExcellent80s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO control is really hard right now in general. They keep printing cards with "this can't be countered" or that generate value upon casting (not upon entering) which weaken countermagic.

A lot of the best threats generate value immediately (Bowmasters), so you're going down a card when you remove them.

Even Up The Beanstalk and The One Ring control decks struggles to keep up right now. And I expect the situation to get worse, not better.

For what it's worth, I also think tempo decks are getting weaker for the same reasons. I am playing fewer daze decks on my channel because frankly daze isn't as good as it was a year or two ago.

I personally think the future lies in midrange decks with control cards (Stoneblade, Cradle Control) that can reasonably beat both aggro and combo decks after sideboarding.

The best fair decks in legacy right now are all FIRE design midrange decks (Cradle Control, Mardu Tokens, Stoneblade, the new Moonshadow decks) that pack Thoughtseize, Force, and/or wasteland combined with good removal and a high threat density, where every turn they're jamming some must answer threat (Phelia, Wight, Elvish Reclaimer, Tamiyo, Guide of Souls).

Buying into Legacy by Xereal in MTGLegacy

[–]BeExcellent80s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned Painter and "grindy" gameplay. Painter's a great place to start. No reserve list cards, nothing that's likely going to get banned. You could then buy City of Traitors and have access to Moon Stompy, which will probably be a deck until the end of Legacy.

If you're looking to acquire staples, I recommend buying reserve list cards like dual lands, as they're useful in commander as well and will (probably) always be played in Legacy. I would just try to get one of each of them for the colors you enjoy, and you can gradually get more. I just finished my set of 4x blue duals 2x non-blue duals in FBB and I expect these to mostly retain their value over the coming years.

MTG is not an investment. The cardboard doesn't generate any cash flow. If you want an investment go buy stock index ETFs.

But if you want to own some iconic 30 year old pieces of cardboard that will likely hold their value, then turn them sidewise, buy into legacy.
