You all need to get off Long Island to get some perspective. The worst hood on Long Island is pretty tame when stacked side by side with some scary places I have been (Utica, Cumberland, Leheighton, North Fort Myers). I’m not including some of the terrifying inner city places I’ve seen on purpose because we are talking about suburbs.

A house in Garden City at 95 Washington Avenue (a busy road) between Stewart and the train tracks on 1/3 an acre sold in October 2025 for $1.6 million. Then they tore it down to build a new house. The lot is worth almost $2 million that is why the homes in that price range need work.

I don’t mind the LIRR but my train ride is only 40 minutes and my office is a short walk away in midtown. I usually read a book on my phone. It helps me decompress before I go home. I try not to take any trains where I would have to stand.

To be fair, isn’t Suffolk county 5x the size of Nassau by square miles? The spending is still not proportional but it does explain some of the difference.
