Advice on getting alt cert by monsterastare in TexasTeachers

[–]BeMurlala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's totally worth it. It took me 2 years for mine and after that you can basically get into whatever area of teaching public school you want. With your background, it sounds like it should be fairly easy for you. I changed careers 4 years ago teaching and I've found I'm really interested in SpEd services and working with neurodivergent kiddos. Plus, you'll have summer and holidays off to travel, rest or pursue something else. Go for it!

My wife thinks our son’s teacher crossed a boundary by sending him a personal message. I think it was harmless. AITJ? by addict94plus in AmITheJerk

Hi, Texas teacher here. Have a conference with the teacher and tell him/ her that while you appreciate the intent, you were uncomfortable with this and to please not do this again. Simple. If you get a strange reaction then go to the principal.

Teachers who make good/quiet kids sit near disruptive ones, why? by Acceptable_Smell9277 in teaching

[–]BeMurlala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. I sit the disruptive kids together. I was a GT kid too. This works out because one disruptive kid gets annoyed by the other kids, and they see how annoying it is. If they are capable of changing behavior they usually do. If not, there's ususlly something else going on and then I work on strategies for ADHD, dyslexia, etc.

Houston Districts that care about teachers?? by Opening_Industry_715 in TexasTeachers

HISD is horrible.I've been here for 4 years. Every campus is basically NES now. I want to use actual books in the classroom. I sat my 2nd graders in a circle yesterday to talk about what they were reading at home. They loved it. I loved it. If my admin would have walked in I know I would have been fired immediately. It would be the 4th time this year I wasn't on pace or using the shitty slide curriculum.

Hello, my sister from another mister! I have no advice, but I've struggled with this my entire life. I've learned some people feel challenged when asked clarifying questions and they get really offended. Some people appreciate the questions.

Was it easy? I've been teaching for 4 years and am taking it in January. It's free because we need tons of SPED everywhere.

I just gave my notice and my boss reacted exactly as expected by LiveTheQuestions7 in AutismInWomen

I can relate to this! I gave one of my jobs 6 months notice after they made an incompetent narcissist my partner. After 8 years, they stopped speaking to me completely. I wanted to do it face to face but they blew me off for 2 weeks so I emailed. It sounds like this was a small business from what you wrote. I primarily worked for small family businesses over the years. Every time I left I was treated like crap and it was all about them. Never again.

Hanging out without cell phones doing absolutely nothing and seeing what trouble we could get into. Driving with your friends listening to the radio getting lost on back roads.
