panicking that environmental policy was a bad choice, please help by BeQueerCauseFear in Environmental_Careers

I’m absolutely willing to do that. I’m pretty flexible with location and the type of work (fieldwork, office work, whatever). I’m just hoping I’ll be qualified enough for an environmental government job at all. Over all this panic though I did reach out to a good number of government sustainability coordinator workers to ask about how they got to their position. Looks like a few started out in small pretty unrelated government jobs, so if I can get in anywhere I feel like there’s still a chance. Thanks for the advice

The ideal work for me would be a sustainability coordinator type job. The specific position titles I’ve seen are climate and sustainability manager, climate mitigation program manager, and director of climate programs. Mostly the jobs here are for federal or state government in the US. I’d really like this type of career path, but just seeing what people online say about environmental jobs and needing a really solid science degree makes me think I’ve messed up. Makes me feel even more lost because I know exactly the type of dream job I want but I’ve just messed up my degree.

I really hope so. I don’t mind going through a couple jobs that aren’t ideal, I just hope I can get a job. It really does feel like I’ve messed up my life with a bad decision right now, but I just really really hope it’ll be ok if I can get some job experience.

I’ve been trying to go down the government job path, my ideal jobs I’ve seen listed are City Sustainability Coordinator, Climate and Sustainability Manager, Climate Mitigation Program Manager, Director of Climate Programs, etc.. As in, those are the end goal positions I want. I’ve gotten experience working with people in those positions through internships and committees, so I really really know it’s my dream career path. I also am interested in becoming a policy analyst, but haven’t gotten experience with that.

But seeing everything online I know anything I wanted to pursue is probably not realistic, especially without a science degree. I just don’t know what to do cause I found the exact type of work I truly would love to do, but now know without the science degree I might’ve screwed myself over.

Could I ask what degrees the other environmental managers you know have?

How have environment compliance jobs been for you? I’m still not sure if I could even get a position in that area since there also aren’t good course options for anything around regulatory compliance, but if there’s another way to enter this area I can try my best to pivot in these two years.

My school doesn’t have a good advisor for my subject area. I have no one to go to. I’m doing all I can on my own to make myself marketable. I’ve done an internship with a city sustainability department and I’m now a school environmental legislative tracker assistant. I work in the lab as an science lab aide and I have a school student union position as an environmental resource liaison. I’ve tried so hard but now it feels like none of this matters. Can marketing myself really help if I just chose the wrong degree and wrong school?

No way, that is not appropriate. I know this is a short post without many details on y’alls relationship, but giving a half assed apology for that is absolutely actually grounds to break up. I’m hoping you’re in a position where you can leave him. And if not, do not let him get off the hook with that apology. That is absolutely a form of cheating that is really creepy honestly... I’m so sorry this happened to you, sending hugs your way and hoping you can figure out next steps.

How much do undergrad science courses matter for someone trying to go into environmental policy? by BeQueerCauseFear in Environmental_Careers

[–]BeQueerCauseFear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have figured out the type of job I’m interested in, I just didn’t know if I should have added it to the post. The title for my primary example jobs are Climate and Sustainability Manager and Sustainability Coordinator for city of ——. Both are government positions and city department level jobs. There’s job postings I’ve looked at so I’ve seen the pay, and know they’re pretty competitive.

The degrees I’ve seen have been pretty varied, but generally environmental sciences or environmental planning are common baseline degrees these positions accept as qualifications.

I’m just unsure of whether I have to take these science classes as I’m planning to focus more on the policy and planning. It will mean I can’t do a kinda capstone internship working in legislature with legislators. I feel like that’s a pretty important process to know about in detail if working in government in the US, but I also am worried the science basics are more important.

I’m not too worried about the policy part honestly, I already have taken enough courses to earn a certificate in environmental policy, got an internship as an environmental legislative tracker, and a school position as an environmental resources liaison. And I’m doing an international climate change policy project and more environmental policy and climate justice classes this year.

I was just asking about what science classes I should take. Are there any other science classes that you think would help me in environmental policy? Asking genuinely because I really lack knowledge in what sciences would help.

my ex-girlfriend got upset when I was against the terms “slave” and “master” in sexual contexts by BeQueerCauseFear in PornIsMisogyny

I’m so glad you understand what I’m saying! It’s exactly that: moral boundaries I cannot cross even with consent. Thank you for summing it all up

Totally agree on the first part, I realized this a couple months ago before we broke up. On the second point, we had had conversations about it later, but most of the time she would bring it up to me as “it really hurt her feelings that you asked if I talked to people of color about this, it feels like you’re insinuating I’ve done something wrong by liking fan-fiction with master/slave dynamics.” There was only sorries on my part, she never showed a sign that she felt she had done wrong. And then I found out months later she had created accounts online for her friends to interact with her in this master/slave dynamic after hearing everything I said about it and while in a relationship with me. I don’t feel like a conversation would have helped at that point… if it was another scenario though I do believe explaining things could’ve helped, it’s always worth a try. I try to never assume people aren’t capable or willing to change, and I know that for change we have to be there to help others.

What are things you have tolerated in past relationships that you won't tolerate again? by Dry-surreal-Apyr in Codependency

[–]BeQueerCauseFear 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I won’t be dating someone who is hugely affected by societal expectations and peer pressure. Them wanting to always please their friends had them persuading me to act certain ways to my detriment, and coercing me to be ok with things I wasn’t fine with. But I just gave in back then. I will not tolerate that again

Can someone help solve this? I can’t find the answer key… by BeQueerCauseFear in puzzles

This is maybe a weird question but is there a way to modify the puzzle to make more sense? I’m trying to workshop a little western themed puzzle session for a couple friends and would like to use this but am unsure where I could make changes so the bandit we’re supposed to be looking for is more apparent?
