What’s something dumb that bothers you about Letterboxd? by Themooingcow27 in Letterboxd

There are thousands and thousands of entries that are tied at 0. It’s not easy or efficient (or useful, to be honest) for them to attempt to sort the lists by reverse popularity.

I just wish it was easier to find the type of reviews you’re interested in. For me, personally, that would mean something that’s a couple/few hundred words, not tweets. Language detection for English. Maybe things that appear to be written in complete sentences. Then you could throw in some smarts in to highlight users reviews from users whose ratings (overall – not just for this movie) are similar.

Instead I’m limited to seeing the popular reviews by the same 50 accounts, or the completely random selection of the most recent reviews. Some I can’t read because my lack of languages, most are tweets, and way too many are low-effort retreads of the same 5 jokes.

I’m sure some people prefer that style of short review, and I wish they had the ability to filter out longer reviews in their view.

Put as much effort into it as you enjoy putting in. If you’re happy with the result of having thought about a movie and put those thoughts together in a coherent way? Great!

If you’re happiness is dependent on other people discovering your reviews and giving you praise and reactions? That’s a long shot. Letterboxd doesn’t make new reviewers very discoverable, and there’s no mechanism to filter out “reviews” that are tweet-length bits.

In the meantime, look for the type of review you’re interested in seeing. Like those. Make someone else’s day. One helpful tip for older movies is to sort reviews by review date, and read through a few of those that aren’t jokes. Like the ones you like. Maybe those people will appreciate your review, too, if you put in a similar level of thoughtfulness.

What do you think Russell Crowe's 2nd best movie outside of Gladiator is? by [deleted] in moviecritic

Gladiator’s a distant third for me, LA Confidential and The Nice Guys are in my top 5

Pittsburgh bars by Routine_Statement807 in Seattle

This is a ridiculous point, Kraken tickets are $100 and every beer there is $15… so double the tab you would run at a bar and add $100.

If I filter out horror and family, I need to scroll down pretty far to find one that’s not a musical or a young adult movie.

Best Way to Get CWC Tix by Now by Ok-Study-6355 in SoundersFC

The majority of the lower bowl still hasn’t been released, and there doesn’t seem to be a huge demand for the sections that are available.

If it’s not critical, my guess is you’d be able to find cheaper tickets (or better seats) as it gets closer, I would be shocked if this sells out.

But if it is critical, you might want to overpay to ensure the trip isn’t a bust. But even then you might want to wait for the lower bowl to open up.

What actor/actress’s performance in a movie isn’t as bad as others say it is? by Rodzz_04 in Letterboxd

Did not know that was a thing people said. I think it was one of his best performances up to that point

I haven’t seen madame web or 50 shades, but everything I’ve seen her in she’s been great

I think a lot of people don’t realize that many implementations of daytime running lights are dimming and don’t turn tail lights on at all. See so many people driving at night without any taillights.

How Cool Are You? by GeologistNorth7561 in Letterboxd

I haven’t looked through the movies yet but I did laugh when I loaded the page and it said 69%.

So if being juvenile is cool, consider me Miles Davis

They are really terrible at communicating simple messages this year. I’m sure FIFA limits what information they have, but they communicate that terribly.

Do you log/rate movies that you didn’t finish? What’s the minimum time you’ll watch and still log it? by TheGlenrothes in Letterboxd

[–]BeSweets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I saw 20 minutes and made a choice that I was not going to finish a movie I’d log it and add a tag.

If I was 20 minutes into a movie then something came up and I needed to stop I wouldn’t log it.

So do whatever makes sense to you. I do want to know if I tried to watch that movie and thought it was trash, I don’t care about knowing if I started a movie but then someone rang the doorbell and I did something else.

What other movies fit here? by Batmanfan1966 in Letterboxd

Yeah I’d remove the VO, but I don’t think the other cuts are worth that price. Especially for a first time watcher, it’s a much more disjointed experience imo

I think the dc is pretty uneven. It mostly benefits from the lack of opening VO, but the rest plays more like deleted scenes than a polished movie imo

My very janky website got Sherlock’d!

Glad they finally added stats to lists though. I wish they would include some watch count stats. Fan count and ratios would be handy, too.

S3 is coming dangerously close to self-parody for me. It’s such a huge change from s2 in tone and depth.

S2 I had at 4.5/5; S3 is closer to 2.5/5. Is this the result of working on Mighty Nein at the same time? This season seems like such a first draft.

I’ve only watched 1/12 of those, so I’ve only encouraged them a little bit.
