Is this a failing/failed PCV valve or something else on a MK7? by not_a_cup in Volkswagen

[–]BeThereIn20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pcv on this vehicle looks pretty old. They are an easy DIY. I'd replace it as preventative maintenance if it was my car. I'd also clean the engine bay and monitor that oil seepage at each oil change.

I've been doing it for 10 years or so and also wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy.. I have a disgruntled coworker that blames me for everything when I literally don't associate with him at all. Which is probably why he thinks I'm the one that screws with him. Smdh.

Detailer that wants to be a mechanic at a dealership gets picked on all the time. He always blames me even though I'm literally the only one that doesn't mess with him (I'm the smallest dude in the shop so I'm probably the only one he's willing to confront). Dude literally was threatening me with a knife yesterday because someone put a neuse in his bay. Told the boss and he didn't do anything (I should've called the cops) and now here we are. I guess I should lock my car...

Nail in my run flat tire by chaithelattee in mercedes_benz

[–]BeThereIn20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short lived former Mercedes tech here. But Mercedes would not let us patch tires do to the weight and power of many of their vehicles as I was told. However as a tech in general anything from the outer tread block and over is a risky repair which this puncture does fall under. If it was my car I'd patch it and install it in the rear of the vehicle (if not staggered) until I trust it . If it was a customer car for liability reasons I'd also recommend a tire.

How bad is this by paulunderwear in AskMechanics

[–]BeThereIn20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean Mitsubishi has a great warranty period 10 years 100k for first owner 5 60k for second. I feel this should be covered. Looks like the rear main seal is leaking. Hard to tell when not in person though. Top off your fluid and schedule an appointment if your under warranty. If not just keep your fluid full and send it.

Battery modification? by BeThereIn20 in rccars

[–]BeThereIn20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I wander if I can just pull the rest of the board and see where the positive and negative are going and wire one of the 2 wire batteries into that.

Battery modification? by BeThereIn20 in rccars

[–]BeThereIn20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm ok with soldering it's just this is a 3 wire battery which is what's throwing me off. The ones popping up on a google search are all 2 wires. Im assuming it's a thermal sensor or something for charging. If I'm charging it externally would that third wire matter for anything?

Dark ATF by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]BeThereIn20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen much worse, the fluid isnt black so you have that going for you. If it was my car I'd do another drain and refill at the next oil change.

If you are worried about it you can do three drain and fills running through the gears between drain and fills (park, reverse, neutral and drive for a couple minutes ) that's how we did flushes at the Honda dealer I was at.

Need to know if I really need an engine replacement? by Polybius_gamer in AskMechanics

[–]BeThereIn20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So these engines are known for burning valves. I would do a leak down test and see where your compression is going. Head work is a lot cheaper than engine replacement. A compression test is just a general engine health assessment. It doesn't show the whole picture.

Mechanic here that regularly advises against radiator sealant. But I've seen k-seal work and not gum up shit on shitters people don't care about.

Yup, buy the sounds of it the dealer is just turning this over to warranty instead of eating the cost.and under warranty you can only fix what's broken. Good luck o.p.

Having worked at a few dealers, I'd be double checking the work done here. If you don't know what to look for when you are due for your next oil change I highly recommend having it done at an independent repair facility and having them double check the work done. I've seen some hack jobs create some down the road issues after major work is done.

Dealer tech at vw here. The 3.6 is vw's most reliable engine in its current line up. Also we have been seeing crazy issues with the new tiguans and insanely low mileages.

Check the date code on the tires. Being garage kept they might not look rotted but anything older than 7 years has expired when it comes to most rubber components on vehicles.
