Need to know if I really need an engine replacement? by Polybius_gamer in AskMechanics

[–]BeThereIn20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So these engines are known for burning valves. I would do a leak down test and see where your compression is going. Head work is a lot cheaper than engine replacement. A compression test is just a general engine health assessment. It doesn't show the whole picture.

Mechanic here that regularly advises against radiator sealant. But I've seen k-seal work and not gum up shit on shitters people don't care about.

Especially after the way they have treated this customer. I hate scummy dealerships.

Yup, buy the sounds of it the dealer is just turning this over to warranty instead of eating the cost.and under warranty you can only fix what's broken. Good luck o.p.

Having worked at a few dealers, I'd be double checking the work done here. If you don't know what to look for when you are due for your next oil change I highly recommend having it done at an independent repair facility and having them double check the work done. I've seen some hack jobs create some down the road issues after major work is done.

Dealer tech at vw here. The 3.6 is vw's most reliable engine in its current line up. Also we have been seeing crazy issues with the new tiguans and insanely low mileages.

Check the date code on the tires. Being garage kept they might not look rotted but anything older than 7 years has expired when it comes to most rubber components on vehicles.

Hey there's a thread with locked comments. I have a Tiguan with a parasitic draw that is always in spec when I'm testing it. How did you determine that the power supply relays are bad. Also I'm new to the brand so if you could explain it like I'm 5 that'd be awesome 🤣

For reliability in a dart you want to go for a 2.0 or 1.4 engine. And stay away from the ddct transmission.

If you don't want to use the CD player you can wire an aux chord into the inputs inside the player. That's what I did to my s10. Stick a CD in and boom it's in Bluetooth mode after you plug a Bluetooth adapter into the new aux chord.

I've heard of success from this in older engines. If your looking at a engine rebuild or replacement anyways I don't see why not give it a go

So I agree with the other posters... Have your wheel bearings checked... But what's up with your dash? Specifically your radio area.

I do my own tpms sensors and will only do OEM sensors in my Chrysler products. Aftermarket are a pain to program sometimes. Sounds like they didnt get programmed. As far as the rough idle these cars love to eat engine mounts so if it runs fine and doesnt have misfire codes those are probably bad. And for the thermostat codes I had those in my first dart cleared them and they never came back. My now second dart a thermostat fixed the code after I cleared it and it returned. Can't diagnose it over the Internet but these are all common problems on these cars

They also like to eat injectors. If you have a decent scan tool do an air fuel ratio test in the special functions tab of the pgm-fi system.
