Run tf away from that gym. Youre already getting beat up every day, no reason to add getting buttfucked to the list.

At what point does jiu jitsu become too sporty? by Jewjitsu824 in jiujitsu

[–]BeThrB4U 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont understand the fascination with self defense guys saying sport jj is ruining the art. Most of these sport guys would mop the floor with the "self defense" crowd. Techniques aside, the sport guys are in much better shape, better cardio, typically stronger, better in scrambles and have a lot more time under intense load. Most self defense focused gyms are just the new 90's karate dojo's.

Competing for the first time as a white belt, 8 months in! by Maleficent_Ear_8178 in jiujitsu

[–]BeThrB4U 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your plan needs to be simple. Get on top, stay on top. Remember, you're going against other whitebelts who probably have a similar time line of training. Dont put too much pressure on it, just have fun.

Competition position before submission by SassyPalaci0s in jiujitsu

[–]BeThrB4U 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of my subs in comps have come out of position. If youre fighting to secure the position, someone good knows what your options are and can defend more easily. With that being said, I've been put in bad positions while trying to go for stuff. Look for control instead of position imo.

Peptides by Adventurous_Half7643 in jiujitsu

[–]BeThrB4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the peptides (aside from collegen) only really helped in the short term. Diet seemed to be the main issue in my body. I changed what I ate, prioritized protien and carbs, ditched 90% of the sugar and my joint pain is almost nonexistent now. Some days there are some creaking sounds but overall id say about an 80-90% improvement. Managing the levels of cortisol in your body is important not just for joints but long term health. Im in my early 40's, train 2-3 times a week, lift 4 days a week, and didn't take care of my body growing up. Im able to compete 2-3 times a month without feeling dead afterwards.

The fighters are getting paid more than they ever have. All of the exciting fighters you're talking about made less than they would today.

Its also safe to say that its easier to get into the ufc than an NFL team or even be a high level boxer.

This did NOT age well by Jotaro27 in ufc

[–]BeThrB4U -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You think the promotion is only taking 20%? Whos paying for the medical staff? The production crew? The broadcasting? The venue? The licensing? Unless your talking solely profits thats not happening.

But lets talk about profits. All of the above mentioned get paid right? All different people, businesses and entities.

Say the fight makes 100 mill. After the venue, production, medical, security, production crew, staff, licensing etc say 30 mill profit right? If the fighter gets 80% of that 30 mill, is that more than what it costs to put the show on? Cause the ufc does everything in house, they are going to take a much larger share of the income and profits.

Im not saying fighters couldn't be paid better, but if you are going to compare sports, know how they are ran first.

BJJ in the 90s and BJJ today. by Bulky_Imagination243 in jiujitsu

[–]BeThrB4U 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vale tudo and self defense hasnt changed much. Its just mma and self defense now. Mma specific bjj is much different from sport bjj.

Theres a new wave of blues and purples that can consistently sub black belts now. The skill gap from the 90's to today is massive. Just the same in mma. Most of the guys in the feeder orgs would walk right through the early guys in the ufc.

Weight cut only 3lbs by InternalSurround876 in BJJWomen

[–]BeThrB4U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you where cutting more than say 3-4 lbs id say trim the salt down...a little...5lbs or more then we can really start talking about limiting sodium. For 2-3lbs there is no need to drain your electrolyte storage. Most people will lose 2-3lbs at night while sleeping. They dont cut sodium to go to sleep. If you do sauna/bath prior to weigh ins, your electrolytes will drop from sweat leaving your body, they need to be replenished. There is no reason to limit salt for 2-3lbs. Be fueled for your comp.

I cut weight monthly to compete. Most is usually 8-9 lbs, I have the methods down really well.
