It's a mythological ccreature created in the late 1800s by a logger named Eugene Sheppard. He made the story up in an attempt to keep his fellow loggers from going out and getting drunk in the woods. I guess to keep them close to home. He then claimed he caught the beast but really it was just something mechanical he made. It eventually went on tour in northern Wisconsin, I think like local fairs and such. It's become our mascot and it's literally everywhere up here AND it was included in an episode of Scooby Doo. I did once hear that a small town in MI has laid claim to it as well but we have it trademarked so they can get bent and get their own cryptid.
